Processed guitar, a theremin, keyboard, and computer processing were among the instruments these two used, and their music ended up somewhere in the wide-open vista opened up in the last decade or so by bands like Emeralds and labels like Orange Milk. https://pyramidindigo.bandcamp.com/ CYTOKINESIS Solo venture from a welcome new addition to the ranks of Bug Incision performers, one Eric Svilpis, recently seen in a reportedly ridiculous duo with Mark Fleischhaker at Emmedia a few months ago. I got a good description from Eric, which I’m going to copy here: “Cytokinesis was born in 2001 in the form of MIDI notes programmed by way of several tedious mouse clicks into a DAW sequencer, which culminated in the 2003 limited run CD 'Mitosis'. Only five copies ever existed, and only one of which still remains. R.I.P. WUNDERBAR We are sad to see The New Wunderbar Hofbrauhaus go. We've had so many good times there, as performers as well as audience members. We were very lucky to perform in that space as often as we did, and have our album release there. Many thanks to Craig and all the wonderful staff for all the memories. R.I.P. BRICK QUARTET (MTL/NZ) The Brick Quartet consists of three musicians from Montreal, Canada—Vicky Mettler on guitar, Raphaël Foisy-Couture on bass and Jacob Desjardins on drums joined on tour this fall by New Zealand saxophonist Jeff Henderson. The group stems from an impromptu recording session in September 2013, which was later released as an album titled ‘Built like a Brick Shithouse’. The music brings together sounds from jazz, European free improv, blues and western folk music with dismantled rock rhythms and jagged noise. “It’s punch after punch under a heavy strobe, until all that’s left is a willing pulp of flesh now able to understand that there’s few musics are ferocious and independent as jazz. Those left to still call its name do so with a passion that is unmatched.
