on this lovely trans day of visibility we were talking to some of our preschoolers about gender. one asked "why are you not a girl?" and I answered "because when I looked inside myself and said 'you are a girl' I did not feel happy, but when I said 'actually you are a person' I did feel happy"

then another student asked "why are you not a hot dog?" and that was a much harder question to answer

btw shout-out to trans guys who have complicated gender feelings but feel like they won't be taken seriously as a guy if they express them. sometimes i feel more like a girl but i can't express that to my parents (who already took too long to decide that me being trans wasn't a phase)

have noticed as i’ve gotten older i walk with my hands behind my back frequently. have them on my hips a lot. do thumbs ups almost as much as peace signs

it is funny because i’m 90% certain the hands on hips thing rubbed off on my beloved husband so i’ll just do it then reflexively he’ll immediately mimic it. so we’re both just standing in the produce section mirroring each other for whatever reason
