Right now, Jackson County is the only county in the state with a tax assessor that is appointed by the city rather than voted on by the city population. Voting yes means that you want to change that and let them vote on their assessor, and voting no means you want to keep the position there appointed.

As far as I can tell Amendment 2 is a very small and technical change that would basically just have the effect of slightly lowering county property taxes in Kansas City, Missouri. Republicans are backing it under the theory that a popularly-elected assessor will produce lower property tax bills. I'm not necessarily a huge fan of property tax cuts, but I also don't really know enough about county assessors to say whether or not it makes sense to have it as an elected role ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It looks like it'll pass either way regardless of how you vote though, the referral question for it passed with 90% of the vote
