Writing intimate or tension-filled scenes isn’t about how explicit you can make it. It’s about connection.

Show your readers the chemistry between your characters. Think beyond the physical. Think anticipation. Think emotion.

Tension thrives from pauses, the glances, the soft catches of breath that say what words can’t.

Short breathy exchanges -> "Make me." / "I said don't." / "I dare you." / "Is this a challenge?"

Use contrast, tension thrives in opposites -> want vs restraint, control vs surrender. . "he kept his voice calm, commanding, but every glance at her lips threatened to betray him."

Focus on senses: what can they smell, feel, see, hear and even taste? -> Heat, breath, heartbeat...

But most importantly, slow burn! The near misses, the eye contact, unspoken words. Let desire breathe.

Our home was destroyed, and we now sleep in a torn tent, exposed to the freezing cold. My children cry from hunger and fear. The markets are empty or unaffordable. Bread is now a luxury—I knead pasta just to make something to fill their stomachs
