Hollanov Summer Exchange Reading List Part 5: 8k-40k words
AO3 Collection | Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 - Part 4
This is a canon divergent AU, taking place between the tuna meltdown and the cottage. In this universe, there is no reconciliation at All-Stars.
Ilya takes a hard hit in the final game of the cup playoffs against the LA Monarchs. Shane is across the world at Wimbledon watching helplessly. He can't get there, so he sends someone in his stead.
They’re coming to the bridge of the song. “Put your arm around my waist,” Shane murmurs, and Ilya obeys. Shane grips Ilya firmly and plants his feet hip distance apart. He slowly shifts his weight onto his left leg, coming up off the floor slightly on his right. “Lean back,” he says.
Ilya’s lips are parted. He’s panting a little bit, looking at Shane with half-lidded eyes. Slowly, with Shane supporting Ilya’s left shoulder, he starts to slowly roll backward. He’s a heavy man, 200 pounds at this point, fresh off a summer bulk.
But Shane won’t let him fall. At the apex of the dip, Ilya’s head tips up, chin to the ceiling. They stay like that for no more than a second or two, but it feels like longer. And then Ilya comes back up, and they’re clutching each other, breathing heavily. The song fades to an end.
In their second season playing together, Shane and Ilya go dancing in Miami.
what happens in vegas happens again and again and again
When Shane Hollander wakes up the morning after the 2014 MLH awards in Vegas, he is horrified to learn that he is, somehow, experiencing the same day again. He doesn't know how to break himself out of this time loop, but he can only assume it's going to involve Ilya Rozanov.
He just doesn't know how yet.
time is a river that carries me away (but i am the river)
Ilya’s outside the arena in the blistering cold, fiddling with his lighter, when the awkward-looking Asian kid wanders over and shakes his hand, introducing himself as Shane Hollander. Like Ilya doesn’t know who he is, hasn’t been watching this idiot’s game tape for three years. His palm’s sweaty to the touch, like he’s nervous. It’s almost cute.
Twenty-four hours later, Ilya wins the International Prospect Cup and meets Hollander a second time. They shake hands again, and–
Ilya’s outside the arena in the blistering cold, and Hollander’s palm is sweaty to the touch, like he’s nervous. It’s almost cute, except that Ilya’s been here before. And when he looks into Hollander’s eyes and sees the terror in them, he knows he’s not the only one.
Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov are soulmates in a world where anything you write on your skin ends up on your soulmate's skin too. This does not make Hollanov's getting together any easier.
Ilya walks in and waves generously to the audience as he joins Shane at the podium. He seems much more composed than Shane, greeting him with a smile and a hand on Shane’s mid back. It falls into place easily. Warmth travels between them.
The flashing cameras flood the room for a moment.
Shane shoots Janie an unhappy look. To which she shrugs her shoulders, communicating something along the lines of, ‘above my pay grade’, and retreats to the corner of the room.
It is not standard procedure to haul both team captains to the media at the same time, but go figure. The league never misses an opportunity to profit off the spectacle that is their relationship.
It's August 1697 and Tsar Peter's Grand Embassy has just arrived in Amsterdam. Word spreads among the Russians about a new drink the Dutch are drinking, "coffee".
(Shane and Ilya find each other in every universe.)
Burn a Hole in Your Pocket
"Ilya cannot remember when, exactly, he had stopped keeping an emergency condom in his wallet. Or why."
During their situationship era, Shane and Ilya have to stop by the store to buy some essentials
Voluntary Random Assignment
Hauling him to his feet, Ilya pushes Shane out to arm's length and leaves him there. "Come here."
Shane feels loose, reveling in the anticipatory tension building between them. He thinks maybe it started a long time ago, a deceptive simmer that's taken barely a glance to rekindle, sparking, and now they can both watch it flare.
"No, you come here," Shane counters, breath hitching.
The problem with Happily Ever After is, well, the After.
Shane Hollander's Russian Nightmare (OR: The Strange Life of Ilya Rozanov)
What would happen if Shane and Ilya found themselves in a time loop, stuck in the situationship era, in Russia during the Olympics? In true Hollanov fashion, they try and figure it out through sex (with each other, other people, and masturbation).
Shane Hollander is a sports nutritionist who once had aspirations to play in the NHL until an injury ended those dreams forever.
Ilya Rozanov is the captain and star center of the Boston Bears-and Shane's celebrity crush.
So what happens when the Bears need a new team nutritionist and Shane quickly learns that the Russian Menace is so much hotter in person but is also one of the kindest people Shane has ever met?
(And so what if he has the eating habits of a raccoon digging through a dumpster?)
pour mercy, mercy on me (set fire to history)
“I was thinking summer,” Shane said.
“Summer for what?”
Shane lifted his head and met Ilya’s gaze. “For everything. Coming out. Going public. Getting married.”
Ilya’s heart flipped. “Yes?”
“Yeah. I know it’s going to be a shitshow, but I’m tired of being scared of being found out. I want to tell people, on our own terms. I think I can handle anything that happens, as long as going public is a choice we made ourselves. Together.”
“That is what I want,” Ilya agreed. “We tell people ourselves. Together.”
~ The Long Game, Chapter 25
What if Shane and Ilya were never outed in Hayden's FanMail, and got to come out on their own terms?
