I've been working on a digital art piece but it has been taking 1 million years so please enjoy this """doodle""" in the meantime
hospital
what are you supposed to do on the days that absolutely no food sounds appetizing but youre sitting there hungry and getting a headache but everything does not sound appealing
Drink something with calories (more is better). Juice, chocolate milk, whatever. Once it hits your blood stream you'll have 10-20 minutes of feeling better where you can get something more solid into your belly. This can be candy at first, but step your way up to something with protein and fats (this'll help you feel full and satisfied and keep you from having a spike/crash of energy).
Often being really hungry/having low blood sugar can make you feel nauseated and give you headaches, etc. Giving yourself a quick sugar jump will help manage those symptoms long enough to do something more lasting about it.
Be aware! You'll feel better once you get the sugar in your body but it won't last very long! You need to eat something else before it wears off again.
seconded, definitely drink something first preferably with caloric content
I was curious about what my wage and time, plus materials, would bring the cost of a foundation paper pieced and handquilted king size quilt to...and...
Okay, anyone willing to pay this amount will be enough to convince to make something this...outrageous. it'll close commissions for a year or two, and require frequent breaks so I don't burnout.
$23,800 USD.
$27× 900 hours + cost of materials (batting alone will be $200, 25 yards of fabric will be about what i need, i'll kill several rotary blades with all the cutting, and likely go through at least two spools of thread) = final cost
That amount of money will be what it takes to convince me to make this. If you're willing to pay for one of these now, hmu. I'll make the listing.
If you want just a king size quilt top, that's still $6150 USD. I'll need around 25 yards of fabric, a couple spools of thread (or a cone), and two to three rotary blades. This will take around 200 hours for traditional piecing. Foundation paper piecing will add another 100-200 hours easily because I have to print each section of each block, cut them out, fold along the seam lines, cut all the fabric, sew the fabric to the paper, press each seam, trim, rinse and repeat many times, sew the blocks together, remove the paper (sooooo many pieces), make the rows, and sew the rows together. So foundation paper piecing will bring the top to $11,650. For just the quilt top.
If you're 100% certain you want a king size quilt, and you're able to pay, let me know. I'll put the commission listing up for you, and promptly close commissions until further notice.
Money is good incentive.
It's 100% okay to reblog this. People need to understand why textile/fiber arts, quilts in this case, are so expensive.
The prices you see on Etsy? The $200 king size quilts and $150 queen size quilts? That's sweatshop pricing. Some of those quilt postings aren't even real. I've seen my own work listed there, priced absurdly low, and have had to file reports and claims about those listings.
Most textile/fiber art is done by hand. Keep that in mind. Remember what a liveable wage is. Do you intend to pay yourself minimum wage? Are you really that kind of manager? I'm not.
A free tip for work (and life, but especially work):
Thank/praise/explicitly show or verbalize appreciation every time a coworker does something helpful or useful, even if that thing is part of their job description. Turn it into a rote habit if possible - this will involve a certain small outlay of effort, but at this point it is mostly just an automatic reaction, like "excuse me" etc.
Even if you don't like the person. Even if they've explicitly been a dick about something else, whatever: dig up a "thank you" or a "fantastic" or some other positive response when they are in fact helpful/useful/etc, again, even if it's "just" because that's what their job is supposed to be.
Don't do this because it's "good". Do it because you're actually contributing to a little reward circuit in their heads that at the very least erodes a little bit at them being unpleasant, even, because down in the human social subconscious things go DING and dump out some reward chemicals when another human recognizes our efforts.
Also because it's nice to be able to point out that you were always polite and appreciative of their work even if they turn out to be your Work Enemy.
(It'll also make people who like you like you more, and incline people who are neutral to you to like you.)
FUCK. honestly just FUCK. We missed a very important day yesterday.
what was yesterday, cat?
I’m not missing it this year.
Happy Birthday buddy!

dandelion jelly time!
once again i am begging you guys: make dandelion jelly this year. it's incredibly delicious.
Ingredients
2 cups dandelion petals, lightly packed
4 cups water
4 cups sugar (2-3 if using low-sugar sure-set pectin)
2 Tbs. lemon juice
1 box powdered pectin
Instructions
Cut the green part of the flower off and place the petals into a quart canning jar. (i have the best success cutting them in half with my thumbnail then slicing just above the seed line)
Pour 4 cups of boiling water over the flower petals. Allow them to cool and then place into the fridge for 24 hours.
Strain the flowers well and squeeze out as much dandelion tea as possible. Using a clean dishcloth is better than a metal strainer.
Place into a large pot 3 1/2 to 4 cups of dandelion tea, lemon juice, and pectin. Bring it to a boil.
Add sugar and return to a boil while stirring. Boil the jelly for 1 to 2 minutes.
Remove from the heat and pour into canning jars. Let the jars cool to room temp then pop them in the fridge to set overnight.
Dandelion jelly lasts 3+ months in the fridge and 6+ months in the freezer though I've unfrozen perfectly fine jelly 9 months later. This isn't a good recipe for shelf-stable, room-temperature preserves, though. Keep the jars cool as much as you can.
Dandelion jelly unlocked PB&J sandwiches for me. It's light, sweet and an amazing way to realize how much the world wants to feed you delicious things.
Also, you can water batch can the jars and they're shelf stable for at least a year in my experience (I usually finish last year's batch as the dandelions come in so I can't speak about longer).

i clicked on "create a community" to see wtf it was and it totally glitches out my app and phone. i screen recorded it but it was a lot of screen flashing and like extremely animated glitching so im not going to post it
this happened to me twice and to at least one other person, that's not a huge sampling but it's enough for me to go ahead and say if you're sensitive to fast flashing lights and erratic glitching do not click the "create a new community" button on mobile!
[ID: A dismissable message on the Tumblr dash that says, "Welcome to a new way of using Tumblr with your friends! We're rolling out a new way of using Tumblr. Reserve your spot now and create a dedicated space for your community." Two button options say, "Create a new community" and "Dismiss." End ID.]
I genuinely believe that some people could encounter a button that says “if you push this button everyone in the world has the opportunity to live a better life and your life remains exactly the same” and they would not push it.
They’d be like “well that button’s not fair to me, though,” even though there’s literally no other buttons around and nothing newly bad would happen to them if the button was pushed.
For anyone not getting the metaphor:
This is voting.
This is why conservatives will vote against their self-interest expressly to fuck over other people.
It never occurs to them that if they had a friend who could also push the button, it would make their life better.

this post is about antiblack racism and specifically how nonblack users like the ones mentioned above have a racial bias and are ok with sexuality and talk of violence until it’s coming from a black person, the subconscious idea that black people are uniquely perverse or aggressive is what’s being mocked here, if ur reblogging this and saying anything like “me” ur missing the point, this behavior isn’t funny or cute or quirky, its just one of the many ways nonblacks show how they dehumanize us while being perfectly fine with doing the same actions that they dislike seeing a black person do bc of not seeing us as equally human

There's a post going around Tumblr about how if you're post-menopausal and have bleeding, you should get it checked by your doctor. I brought some minor bleeding I'd had up in a doctor visit earlier this year, prompted by that post, and this week, after a biopsy, I found out I have cancer. It's early stage and the survival odds at 5 years are 99%. I have an oncologist appointment and we may have caught it early enough that surgery alone will be sufficient treatment (no radiation/chemo).
So that post may have saved my life and it may have made my treatment a lot easier too.
If you get into menopause and then start bleeding again, really, get your reproductive innards checked out. The life you save may be your own.
