“Words he picks up from Jason and his mum. He knows God can hear his thoughts and always begs forgiveness after. But he wants to yell every dirty, unkind word now.

"Harriette, is it?" Malcolm says.

Wendy, Harry thinks.

Louis Tomlinson turns fully in his seat, hooking his elbow over the back of the pew. Harry's eyes are on him before his mouth even opens.

"Say it one more time," he tells Malcolm, voice quiet, but loud enough for the other boys to hear too. "You say it one more time, and after school, I'll shove my foot so hard up your arse you'll shit through your eyes for a week."

The gaggle of boys fall silent. Louis doesn't look at Harry or anyone else. It's just him and Malcolm with their gazes glued, wrestling one another in an intangible way. Louis seems accustomed to winning, and this is no different. Malcolm looks away first.

Without another word, Louis faces the front of the room again.

No one looks at Harry except for Zayn. Before Harry can send him a smile, Zayn faces forward too, dark lashes sweeping first to Louis and then to the front.

Even if no one sees it, for the rest of the day, Harry smiles.”
