A little sappy Taylor post on here.
Just to anyone wondering my take.
I will never understand the people who don’t understand the sheer panic Taylor must have even thinking about being out and proud. This woman cannot so much as trim her bangs without the public deciding it is the biggest crime in the modern world.
In 1989 era Taylor grossed over $250 million globally, playing to nearly 2.3 million attendees. In the first WEEK alone Taylor sold over 1.2 million copies in the US alone.
At this point in time Taylor was at the peak of her fame so far. It scared her enough to be shaking at a basketball game, and barely able to hold Karlie’s hand in rehearsal for the VS show.
Imagine the sheer terror Taylor had of losing that fame, because she accidentally showed how much she loves a woman?
This was when all of their interactions could be boiled down to ‘best friends’.
Imagine what a 90 million monthly streamers of her music is like.
Roughly 53% of U.S. adults (about 135–150 million people) consider themselves fans, with 16% identifying as avid fans.
IN TOTAL THAT IS 69% of the US ALONE.
Before the gripers think “oh woe is the poor pop star with money” is ridiculous.
Taylor is still a person.
She is still a human.
She is still deserving of empathy.
If she chooses to let this all be declassified in 50 years? (I doubt it but) I’ll be here.
I will still be pointing out, and seeing the painstaking attention Taylor puts into queer coding her work. I am not a “I love Taylor, but” kind of fan.
Whether you like it or not. Taylor has fears that are valid, and terrifying.
When she makes the decision to have a lavender marriage she does so with so many different factors in mind.
The paparazzi and press have killed.
Both directly and indirectly, and I think to begrudge her for trying to stay safe from that -especially when she is attempting to slowly ease Karlie back into her public life right now by doing so, is a mistake.
At the end of the day, it is Taylor’s world.
We only know so much. 🤷♀️ and I’m perfectly fine with that. I would love for Taylor to be out and proud, but if that isn’t what she can do due to politics/the state of her fan base/ the label/life that’s okay.
I find comfort in knowing that doesn’t mean all of the flagging she’s done is null and void. If anything it makes me laugh, and chuckle.
