Shaykh Salih Ibn Uthaymeen's advice to a youth wishing to head in the right direction..

1. He should always ask Allaah to keep him steadfast and on the right path..

2. He should read the Qur'an a great deal and ponder its meanings, because this Qur'an has a great impact on ‎the heart, if one reads it carefully and ponders it.

‎3. He should strive to do acts of worship regularly, without getting bored or feeling lazy, because the Prophet (ﷺ) sought refuge with Allaah from incapability and laziness

‎4. He should strive to keep company with good people and avoid company with bad people.

5. He should advise himself when his nafs is influencing him and should say to himself: The distance is far and the path is long, let him advise himself to be steadfast, because Paradise is surrounded with difficult things and Hell is surrounded with whims and desires.

‎6. He should keep away from bad friends, even if they were his friends before, because bad friends will influence him. Hence the Prophet (ﷺ) said "The likeness of a bad companion is that of the one who works the bellows: either he will burn your clothes or you will notice a bad smell from him".

تظن أنك لا تعاقب بذنبك؟

وتظن أنك لا تعاقب بذنبك وأنت حرمت قيام الليل و وردك من القرآن حرمت السنن الرواتب وانعقد لسانك عن ذكر الله

You think that you will not be punished for your sin, and you were prevented from praying at night, and from reciting your share from Qur'an, and prevented from the sunan ar rawatib, and prevented from mentioning Allāh

طبع على قلبك شيئا فشيئا وأنت لا تشعر وتظن أنك لا تعاقب لأنك لست مبتلى في دنياك

It was imprinted on your heart little by little and you did not even feel it and you think that you are not being punished because you are not afflicted in this world..

وأي ابتلاء أشد من أن يحرم الإنسان الوصل مع الله؟

What affliction is more severe than a person being deprived of the communication with Allāh?

Luqman said to his son:

“O my son!

Work cannot be accomplished except with certainty,

and whoever weakens his certainty weakens his work.”

Yahyā b. Ma’īn said:

"I never saw a mistake in a person

except that I would try my best to cover it up for him."

Siyar A’lām an-Nubalā’ (vol. 11, pg. 83)

Imam Abu ʿAbdullah Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafiʿi said: "The essence of person lies in three things:

Concealing Poverty: So much so that people presume that you are wealthy due to your modesty and integrity.

Concealing Anger: So much so that people presume that you are satisfied.

Concealing Hardship: So much so that people presume that you are blessed and have an easy life."

second Rashidun caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab said:

إن هذا الأمر لا يصلحه إلا لين في غير ضعف، وشدة في غير عنف»

"True leadership works only with kindness that isn’t weakness, and strength that isn’t cruelty."

There is khayr in everything that happens, but only if you look at it with the lens of Iman. When the rings of hardships get tight upon you, remind yourself that the events of your life that surround you at this moment are perfectly working under the constant care of your Lord. Nothing escapes His knowledge, nothing surpasses His vision, it’s all running smoothly under the command of Allaah. This is what your Lord has chosen for you. This is what His plans are for you. This is what His decision looks like. And He’s the Most Just in His decisions.

Taslim and rida to His Decree is what is going to save you in drowning your boat in the sea of trials, and will supply you with tawakkul and sabr and will safely take it to the shore — that counts among the highest level of ihsan and iman.

Don’t ever let this vanishing dunya get to you, no matter what becomes of you, don’t let it weaken your resolve and narrow your sight. You were created for Akhirah, work for it till the time you are here. Accept the good and bad that inflicts you, be pleased with it and continue your journey as a stranger to your Lord, surely and eventually His faraj will come to you and solace will seep down in your soul and if it’s not written in this world, then surely in the Hereafter whilst you depart from this dunya as famous stranger in the skies.

“Whatever you hate for people to see, then do not act upon it when you are alone in your privacy.”

“The one who repents from sin is like the one who did not sin.”

Ibn Taymiyyah:

If one repents from sin then the punishment and consequences of the sin are removed.

Ibn al-Qayyim:

Allaah makes the one who repents to be like the one who did not commit the sin.

Ibn al-Qayyim:

If someone repents from sin then in terms of consequences it is as if it never occurred.

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

"The more you ask Allāh (in du’ā),

the closer you get to Him—and the more beloved you become to Him.

And the more you insist in supplication,

the more He loves you."

إن رأيت نفسك لا تتم وردك من القرآن

If you find yourself not completing your daily portion of the Qur'an (wird),

ولا تكمل قراءة كتابك

nor finishing reading your book,

ولا تستمر في حضور درسك،

nor maintaining consistency in attending your lessons,

فاعلم أنك بحاجة إلى:

then know that you are in need of:

١ - تصحيح النية

1- Rectifying your intention

۲ - النظر في المشغلات

2- Addressing your distractions

٣- ترتيب الأولويات

3- Sorting your priorities

العمر يمضي، والساعات تنقضي، وأجلك ينقص، فاحرص في ذلك كله على زيادة عملك.

Life is passing by, time is running out, and your lifespan is decreasing, so be diligent in increasing your [good] deeds.

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:

"Be pleased with everything that Allāh does with you. For indeed He does not prevent you except to give you.

He does not test you, except to protect and save you. He does not give you ill health, except to cure you. He does not give you death, except to give life to you.

So beware of not being pleased with Him, even for the blink of an eye. Such that you fall in His eye."

Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“Strive to distance yourself from anything that brings worry, sorrow, or distress so that you may always remain at ease, with a content and open heart, focused on Allah, His worship, and your worldly and spiritual affairs. If you practice this, you will find relief. However, if you burden yourself with regret over the past or excessive concern for the future in a way not sanctioned by Islamic teachings, know that you will exhaust yourself and miss out on much goodness.”

bn al-Qayyim رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ said:

‎“Submit your heart in three situations: when listening to the Qur’ān, during gatherings of remembering Allāh, and during times of solitude. If you do not find your heart in these three situations, ask Allāh to grant you with a heart, as you do not have one.”
