Pip was cursing himself for being on his way to Livâs place. In fact, he had been cursing himself since he had answered her text. There was nothing wrong with her⊠well, yes, she was not interested in nothing else than a friendship, friends with benefits and all that, a fantasy Phillip was not ready to fullfill because, even if he didnât mean to, he had feelings for her. They were not that strong but they were there and it was annoying. He kept in mind all of the advices his cousin had given him and he elt pretty stupid since it was a girl after all, a girl he already knew⊠a lot more than he had expected. But here he was anyways, still wondering if bringing something would be a good idea. Before he could decide, he was already a few meters away from the door.
He didnât remember the flat looked like this, maybe because he wasnât paying attention last time he was here. Pip looked up. A window. Some crazy and cheesy idea crept in his mind but he shook the thought away. He had asked Alo for some advice but his cousin was a douche so he got mad and shoved his phone back inside his pocket. Now he was thinking of texting one of his mates that knew about the traumatic event he had gone through at the costumes party⊠he hadnât seen her since then. But asking more people for advice was a waste of time and it made him feel more of a jerk so he stopped. With a sigh, Pip walked closer to the door, tried to keep it cool and knocked on the door.
Liv was spending the week in Bristol with her sisters. The girls were able to stomach spending time with each other now that they didnât live together. Bella was always off with her boyfriend and Liv was living in east London. Maude had a little boyfriend of her own now. Some kid with glasses that watched just as much scifi as she did. Sheâd stopped asking about their mum and when she was coming home from her soul searching and Liv stopped making up answers. Agnes had been gone for months now and they were all living their own lives.
Telling Pip to meet her at her mumâs flat instead of east London was saving him a trip and not to mention the possibility of running into Cook and Charlie. Liv wasnât a fan of Charlie and obviously Pip wasnât too fond of Cook. Besides it was nice to be home for a little bit in a familiar city. Liv had the house to herself. Bella was out shopping with her beau and Maude was at a film festival with hers. It didnât bother Liv that she was single. In fact she was more anxious when she was in a relationship. She found it hard to trust her partner when she couldnât trust herself. Not to mention she wasnât looking forward to a Matty repeat any time soon.
A knock sounded on the door. Liv jumped up from her place on the couch and swung the front door open. The curly haired Creevey stood on the other side with a nervous smile on his face. Liv leaned against the door threshold and folded her arms. âAre we staying in or going out?â She knew that he was still apprehensive about the whole situation so she wouldnât push him too far just yet. âThereâs a small battle of the bands going down a few blocks from here. Or we can watcha movie. Your pick.â
He didnât even got time to run if he regreted since Liv opened the door fast. Pip tried to keep it cool and he could do it, just needed to keep his head in the game and be her mate. Still, being in here, standing in front of her was a bit awkward. Nope, not a bit, it was really awkward. He didnât expect the first question, not even a hello so he was struggling with his answer. âI⊠uhm⊠I donât know? I mean, I thought you had an idea already. That battle of the bands sounds interesting but only if you fancy to go⊠I have no problem with staying here⊠why? Is someon home?â He looked inside but he couldnât even see Ziggy. Watching a film sounded dangerous, unless he sat on the floor and away from her. No. Why was he thinking like this? They had spent two days together and that was it. She wasnât a rapist and neither was he so he had to stop the childish and erotic thoughts now. If he didnât want anything to happen, it wouldnât. If she didnât, the same. Nice and easy.
âDidnât know you were into bands. Did you get to know my cousinâs? It was like, a huge topic in family dinners that he had a band, not really surprising since all our uncles and my dad were in some. AnywaysâŠâ He sighed and chuckled. He was talking too fast and probably about stuff Liv was not interested in. âDo you want loud music and drinks or a nice volume and⊠drinks as well? Iâm good with either, really.â
Pip was nervous. Liv nodded along while he spoke trying to hide that fact that she found it adorable. Her eyes traveled up to his hair that she loved so much then down to his lips. She was concentrated on his eyes again by the time he stopped rambling. âWe could go see a few bands first and then watch a movie. Unless you have something else to do later.â The house was completely empty. Which would have been a great time to sit down and watch a movie with no interruptions. But Liv was more likely to make a move whether it was intentional or not. âIâm just going to grab my coat, okay?â she said gesturing back inside of the house. Liv left Pip in the open door way while she ran upstairs grabbing something that most likely belonged to Bella.
Liv was down the stairs and out of the house in no time. She walked alongside Pip noticing the way he didnât hold eye contact with her for too long. The contest was at some house just a block up the road. More than likely it was a bunch of college kids but Liv didnât mind. It was an excuse to dance and have fun. Hopefully Pip would calm down by the time they made it back to her place. âSo what have you been getting into lately? Anything fun?â
âOkay, I like that idea. And nope, nothing.â He shrugged. He could make up an excuse but there was no point on doing so. He just hoped Liv didnât get it as he was dying to spend more time with her. He nodded with a smile and waited by the frame with a big smile on his face because he had stared at her while she walked away. Aloâs texts were still confusing him but he had decided he was old enough no make his own choices, but would still keep in mind everything he now knew about Liv. It hadnât passed much time before Liv was in front of him again. He smiled instinctively and let her walk in front of him as he closed the door.
Pip didnât know what to say. He was acting pretty strangely but he didnât mean to. He parted his lips to say something but Liv spoke first and he felt relieved.âThe usual. Went back to Hallifax because one of my mates had his birthday, uhm⊠fixed Ringoâs van, been outdrinking some lads and thatâs pretty much it, same routine as always since the day I got here. And well, got a little meeting with Mini.â He ruffled his hair and finally looked over at her. âWhat about you? I mean⊠you said you were back at Bristol, like, youâre not living here anymore?â He frowned and already could hear cheering people shouting non-understandable shite.
âYeah I live in London. Sometimes.â She shrugged it off not wanting to make a big deal out of it. Liv hadnât told anyone that she moved besides her sisters. She liked being under the radar for the time being. It kept her out of trouble, some of the time. Before Pip could reply about her new housing arrangements. Liv looked up and sat a house with a bunch of kids spilling in and out of it. The crowd wasnât much younger than they were but still Liv was no impressed. She wouldnât have been surprised if Maude was there. Maybe the bands would make up for it. She inadvertently took hold of Pipâs hand as they entered the house. The last thing she wanted to do was lose him in the crowd. Her fingers intertwined with his as she pulled him towards the stage. Instruments and hot bodies were all over the place. Liv staged close to Pip and waited for the music to start.
The band began to warm up. It was obvious they were there too early. Mostly because everyone was sober. Liv huffed and leaned into Pip. âWant to find drinks or something?â When she pulled back she raised her eyebrows.
âLond-â Pip was cut off, looking yo where Liv was. The had found the house and a small smirk appeared on his face. Easy targets for slippy hands. He could take a wallet or two without them noticing, even cigarettes, drugs, anything you could thing off. He did look at their hands but didnât give it much importance but he had to admit it felt good. Most of the crowd consisted of lads, obviously. He made a face when some guy walked past him and touched him since he was all sweaty. Looking up, he spotted the drums and he sighed. He had always wanted to learn how to play them. The speakers emitted that awful and annoying sound because instruments and amplifiers were being connected.
He chuckled and looked down at Liv, who didnât see amused.âYeah, I think weâre going to need them.â Pip smiled at her and turned around, taking her hand again. He pushed people here and there for a couple seconds because it wasnât that crowded. Once they got to the bar, he let go off her hand and opened his new wallet. He was a bit disappointed since it didnât have much money but it was going to pay the drinks. âWhat are you gonna drink? I invite.â He was now inspectioning the bottles and chose a Cuba, whatever. âWant a shirt from the bands? CDâs? Look, they are even selling their pictures.â While the bartender was serving hem, Pip had walked towards some other spot. He found it funny, the pictures looked too simple and almost taken with a cellphone. He took one and lifted it for Liv to see it. âWho wouldnât want to have the picture of these studs by their beds?â
Liv cackled at Pipâs comment. They laughed over the pictures until their drinks were handed to them. âAw no t shirts?â she said picking up the CDâs and posters. She took a sip from her cup. Whatever it was it was strong. Perfect. The lights dimmed and everyone went rushing towards the stage. Liv felt old and out of place but that wouldnât ruin the fun. âCome on. Letâs go to the front like proper groupies.â She pulled Pip along wrapping one of his arms arond her waist whle they walked together. Mostly because she wanted the pimpled lads to know she was here with someone just in case they decided to make a move.
The first band started up. Liv could tel it was going to be a train wreck by the way the bass player had a band aid on almost every finger. The song started off slow. It wasnât too bad. But the surrounding crowd was jumping up and down like it was the best thing theyâd ever heard. She turned to face Pip and they both laughed at the scene unfolding. Was this what she was like years ago? âDrink up. Youâre going to need it,â she yelled to Pip.
âBe careful with that, son. Those are pictures of my rock star with his buddies.â Pip looked over at the man behind the table and chuckled. âYeah, well, good luck selling that.â He saluted him and then took his drink. Liv pulled him and he waved the dad, saying goodbye. Yeah, it was true, they were surrounded by people of all ages, he guessed friends and relatives to the lads playing. He remembered that one time he played a The Beatlesâ cover with Alo for the family at some Christmasâ party. They were around fourteen maybe. Now he would look for the tape. Pip was astonished. The song was not a bad one and he wanted to maybe hear the lyrics but the singer was almost kissing the microphone. He lifted a brow and looked around. He chuckled and looked at Liv. âDo you think they are even listening?â He downed his drink and turned around to find a lad carrying a tray with big cups of paper. That was the only proper concert thing around the place. He took two and placed the empty glass instead, holding the one he had for Liv as she kept on drinking the one she had.
âSo now, stop lying and tell me who you are friends with in here.â He yelled so she could listen and after that, grinned. âIs the bassist, right?â He took a sip of the large cup and remembered Aloâs words. He was curious so he leaned forward to reach Livâs ear. âHey, do you know anything about Lancashire? Is there where you are living now?â He was moving his head to the beat, trying to get the best out of this funny experience.
âAâright you got me. Itâs the singer. I mean look at that frenching action with the microphone.â Liv finished off her drink in time to hear Pipâs next question. So Alo was talking about Lancashire. The night they both wanted to forget. What was the point in bringing it up to Pip? âLancashire? You mean the worst holiday with your cousin. Ever. I wanted to get away and he ended up puking on me before the night was over.â Liv shrugged her shoulders. If Alo didnât remember her coming on to him then neither did she. âNo. London. Thatâs where I stay..â She took the cup from Pipâs hand and took a sip. It was obvious they wouldât stay for the whole show. The irony would run out soon and they would turn into two losers sitting around listening to shitty bands.
âDo you want do dance? Or do you want to hear the rest of the story of me cleaning up after Puke-o Creevey. Iâll spare you the nasty detailsâŠâ
Liv didnât wait for an answer. She led Pip to the middle of the crowd and placed his arms around her waist. She danced up against him to the sound of the pubescent lead vocalist now screaming into the microphone. The surrounding crowd didnât seem to be bothered. Maybe Pip was right and they werenât actually listening.
Pip laughed, looking at the singer. He wasnât that bad but if he wasnât drinking, he would have fallen asleep awhile ago. He stopped looking at the guy to look at Liv and pay attention to her answer. âReally? So you went there alone with Ringo?â His brows went up. Was that really the reason why Alo had warned him about going there with her? Because he had puked? He puked over everything and about everything. Except porn. âRightâŠâ He nodded. There was something else but Alo wasnât telling, neither was she. He cleared his throat and tried to forget about it, but he knew he would be thinking of it all day and night long. He let her sip his drink as his gaze was on the band again. When she asked about what he wanted to do, he turned his head towards her, shaking his curls. âActuallyââ He was cut off by himself. What was the point on asking her when she was not looking at him, they were moving and screams were almost deaffening?
Pip looked at Livâs waist, the place where his hands rested now. It was for half a second before he closed his eyes, looked up and danced along with her, but trying to focus on something else. The guy was screaming and that made him want to laugh but dancing with Liv like this woke the feelings he had shut from the moment he left the place where he was staying at to go and see her. He tried to think it was a different person, some random she could actually dance with without flirting or something, maybe like that friend he had back at home. Soon, they were trapped inside the slam. Pip took hold of Liv and covered her so the stupid drunk ones wouldnât hit her. He got some punches and pushes. One had been so hard they had moved him and Liv. Next thing Pipâs fist had smacked the lad across the face. He froze, still trying to keep Liv from the crowd, even if those around them had stopped when Pip hit the younger lad.
Liv saw the boy hit the ground. She looked at Pipâs hand. His knuckles were split and starting to bleed. The crowd around them got even more worked up while over people started fighting for no reason. The band wasnât exactly playing the soundtrack to a mosh pit but they looked just as excited by the outcome. âWeâve got the get the fuck out of here,â she yelled to Pip. Fists were flying and the last thing she wanted to do was trip and get stepped on. Liv wasnât petite but she wasnât going to go up against a crowd on young drunken teens on her own. She maneuvered through the crowd with Pip. The door didnât seem this far away when they walked in. A glass bottle was slammed against the wall in front of them. A few of the parents were pulling their kids out of the crowds but it was every man for themselves.
They were at the door when Liv felt someone grab for her. She yanked her arm away only to feel herself being scratched as their sharp nails tore down her skin.
Once they were outside Liv felt like she could finally breath again. She took a deep breath and reached out for Pip. âAre you okay? Shit. Your hand.â She held his hand in hers. It was bruised and bleeding.
Honestly, Pip didnât feel the pain in his hand. He was just waiting on the other lad to get up so he could punch him again but he had just started a riot he couldnât be part of. He came back to earth when he realized he had put Liv in the middle of a huge fight. He turned himself in a human shield as they walked through the crowd. He was startled by the broken glass and he thought of going back and search for the boy to break his face but Liv kept on walking. They were out and Pip was thankful for the air on his face. He didnât dare to look at her. His hands were at his waist as he walked from right to left, trying to calm himself down. She mentioned his hand and he looked at it. It was surreal since there was no pain despite the obvious bruises. Adrenaline was working its magic.
Pip nodded, not really feeling like touching her so he only glanced at her arm and realized she was hurt as well. âYour arm. Did IâWas it me?â He turned around to face her. It looked worse than his hand. He was still mad and had an idea of why but didnât want to talk about it. He had a serious expression and took her hand, pulling her away fron that place. He knew where her place was and he didnât talk until they got to the door. His gaze was down, his hair was a mess and he avoided eye contact if he lifted his head.
Liv didnât know what annoyed her more. Pipâs distance or the burning sensation on her arm. The scratch was deep and would leave a mark until it was fully healed. She wished she would have at least gotten a good hit in. Pip didnât talk. He wouldnât even look at her. She glanced over at him while they walked but didnât say anything. They reached her house and Liv stopped before opening the door. âStart talking. Now.â His hand caught her attention again. It needed to be cleaned and iced. Liv took him by the arm and dragged him inside before he spoke. His injury couldnât wait and neither would she.
She sat him down on the couch before disappearing to grab the first aid kit. Liv returned with it along with a bag of frozen vegetables. It was the closest thing to ice she found in the freezer, too impatient to actually look.
âYou know it wasnât you that hurt me ya? It was some bitch at the gigââ She cleaned off the area where his knuckles split then wrapped it with a bandage. Liv placed the ice on top of his hand still holding his hand in hers. âAre you mad at me?â
âDonât know what you want me to say.â Pip shrugged, finally looking at her, acting as if nothing was happening but it was too late for that. She had noticed it already. Now that he didnât have anything or anyone to turn to and hit, adrenaline was descending and his knuckles started to hurt. He hissed and shook his hand. The boy he had hit had some hard bones. Next thing he knew, he was inside. Memories came to his mind but he shook them away instantly. He was here, standing in the middle of the living room, staring at his hand, then he was forced to sit down. He was thinking on acting, faking nothing was wrong, let her do whatever she felt like doing with his injury, giver her a hug and leave. That would be the easiest path to walk but keeping with what he felt would only get him sick and bitter. Liv was back and he swallowed. At this moment, he knew he just couldnât do that. âThat looks pretty bad too. You could see some little red stains, see?â He pointed at her arm, trying to drag her attention away from him. As she cleaned him, Pip greitted his teeth and squeezed his eyes shut. It burned. He shivered when the frozen bag touched his skin nd hissed again, but it actually felt a lot better. âThanks, really.â He kept on looking at his hand.
The question made him laugh, but it was not a cheerful expression this time. He threw his head backwards, now looking at her face. âDoes it actually matter?â He bit his lip until it was white and hurt. âActually, I donât know how to answer that.â And it was true. âItâs just that⊠I want to be friends with you and all but I justâ shit. I just canât, right now.â He laughed hurtfully and cleared his throat. âDancing with you and all that just made me think loads of things you obviously donât feel, so, why talk about it? Useless. I know what youâre gonna say anyways. I already know the answer.â His voice was barely audible by the last sentences. Pip cleared his throat again, looking away. He could feel his eyes getting glassy and it was stupid. He wouldnât give her the joy of seeing him like that.
Liv slowly let go up Pipâs hand. He was upset. More than she imagined. Her first instinct was to get defensive. Which was what she did when he pulled back and folded her arms. âThen why did you agree to hang out with me today?â liv did feel bad. Pip was partially right. If she wasnt so hung up on her unfinished business with Matty then she would be with Pip. She had fun with him. Not to mention he was great in bed. Liv was selfishly hanging on to him. She liked that he still wanted her. Liv wasnt ready him to let him go yet. Pip was safe. He wasnt apart of some all male gang terrorizing the city. He wouldnt just up and leave her or so she hoped. So why was she holding back?
âIf itâs so horrible being around me then why are you here?â She sat back on the couch and looked away from him. Her attitude was getting the best of her. It didnt help that she genuinely enjoyed pissing people off. âTell me what you want. Say it.â
Pip took hold of the bag of frozen vegetables since Liv was no longer doing it. She didnât even have the right to be mad but if she wanted things to be like this, they they would be. She adopted what he had called the Liv fold. She would always fold her arms like that when she was mad or confused. Can you imagine? Pip had already got names for her poses and already knew what she do at times. It was fucked up. Pretty. âBecauseâŠâ He licked his lips and looked up at the ceiling. Yeah, why? Because he was a masochistic twat. âI thought I could handle it, yah? I hadnât seen you in months so I my logic told me being with you today woudnât hurt at all.â He rolled his eyes and  clucked. Now that Pandoraâs box had been opened, he would be vomiting words, that was for sure. Now he wished Liv hadnât opened her mouth because he was like a chemical mix. She had just added the wrong element, making it explode. Pip placed the bag on the couch roughly and stood up. He walked around the center table and stopped in front of Liv. He was unamused.
âWhy do you just act like a fourteen-year-old? Itâs not horrible, Liv, itâs⊠itâs a fucking torture! Do you want me to tell you? Really? Do you? Okay, here it goes. Donât know how the fuck it happened, or why, or when, but in case you hadnât noticed, IâŠâ Pip sighed heavily and turned around, wrapping his hair. âFuck!âHe said out loud, then he repeated it because that action caused his knuckles to burn again. Pip walked away from her but turned around taking long steps, breathing heavy, as if he had been running. âBecause I think I fuckinâ love you? Okay? Are you satisfied then? Now you can go and tell Alo and everyone you want to make fun of me with. It shouldnât had happened but it did and I hate it, I hate it because you donât feel the same and you never will.â His face was red and was standing just a few inches away from her face. Now it hit him. He had said it, he had really said it. He stared at her and shook his head, cursing again. âYou did it, Liv, you did it.â He sniffed and walked towards the stairs, sitting down on the fourth step, his head buried in between his hands. The pain was long forgotten again.
Pip walked away and Liv sat on the couch stunned. She didnât follow him. She didnât know what to say. It was obvious Pip had feelings for her. Liv knew that much. But blokes didnât fall in love with her. It didnât happen. She closed her eyes and laid back on the couch. âFuckâŠâ she spat through gritted teeth. Liv waited a little longer before getting up. She needed time to think and Pip needed time to calm down. When the silence became unsettling, Liv got up and walked over to Pip. She sat down on the third step and faced him.
Liv wanted to tell him not to be an idiot. She wasnât the type of person anyone fell in love with. Her own family couldnât stand her and she lost friends like bobby pins. But she knew how awful unrequited love felt. It wasnât that she didnât love Pip. Her feelings werenât as strong as his were. She was stuck. The last time she tried the boyfriend scene she ended up making out with Matty on a playground. Danny ended up hating her the way she was sure Pip would. Matty would always be there in the back of her mind no matter what she did.
âYou think we can try talking without you wigging out and me turning into mega bitch?â It took a lot for Liv to hold back nagging about how he should still ice his hand despite how upset he was.
âWe have a good time yeah? You make me laugh. You make me squirmâŠâ she said ducking down trying to meet his eyes. âWhy canât we just do that? Why do we have to move so fast eh?â Liv reached out and touched his uninjured hand. âLike I said Iâm no good with relationships. Iâm fucked up. But I like being with you. That has to count for something.â
Pip didnât want to talk. Not because he wanted to be childish or because he was mad, but because he felt his voice would tremble and maybe even cut. He didnât want that to happen in front of her. His head was still burried in between his legs until he decided it was too much. Taking a deep breath, he sat up and looked down on the ground, biting on his thumb. âYou didnât let me other choice, you were angry alreadyâŠâ His voice was low, just some  semitones above a whisper. Liv basically repeated what she had said the last time they saw each other. He didnât really want to look her in the eyes or who knows what would happen. He  shook his head slowly. âI never said we had to move fast, I just needed you to know how I feel. One âI love youâ is not always the start of a relationship, donât you think I know that? You⊠you think I asked for this? Like, I said something like âOh look! Iâm gonna shag this girl then have some feelings for her.ââ Maybe he was acting a little out of place but he was trying to make her understand.
âIt happens, Liv. I know because Iâve seen it.â Alo came to his mind right away. The day he helped his cousin with Big Blue, they talked about girls, Minerva and Liv to be exact. Their story had started in a similar way but Pip didnât know that until he talked about Liv. âBut itâs not enough, is it?â He sniffed and looked at her, eyes were red and he was trying realy hard to just keep them that way. âI assure you⊠if you felt for someone what I feel for you, you wouldnât mind that. You would fucking try to be less fucked up, you would try to be a better person for that someone.â He sniffed again, still being serious and was now worked up. âLike I told you⊠we could be mates, maybe⊠but not now. I canât be mates with someone I love. Itâs⊠itâs fucking impossible.â Pipâs face turned redder and redder but he wouldnât look away this time. Was it that difficult to try? No, it wasnât. The answer was simple. She didnât have feelings for him and he couldnât force her to, neither did he want it. But it was painful, pretty painful.
His mind sounded made up. Liv backed off and kept her hands to herself. She knew how this would turn out eventually. Giving Pip space would allow him to forget about her. When the time came that he was ready to be mates he wouldnât even want to be that. Liv sat quiet and stared at the step in front of her. Selfishly enough she wasnât ready to let Pip go. âYou donât think I try to be less fucked up?â Liv murmured. Her voice was small. When she turned to look at Pip her eyes were glossed over and a tear already ran down her cheek. Liv wiped it away and looked away. âThisâ this is not okay Pip.â She pushed herself off of the step and walked away. Liv didnât want to tell him that he was the only person to tell her they loved her in years. It was too embarrassing to admit. Another reason to push him away.
âYou want to know something? You want to know the truth?â She was walking around the flat now cleaning up the miniscule mess theyâd made. Liv picked up the first aid kid and wiped her face. âDo you want to know why I canât love you? Because Iâm hung up on a bloke who ditched me years ago for one of my friends.â Her lip started to quiver but she kept going. âHe was driving the car that crashed and almost killed meâand myâ my friend but I canât seem to shake him loose.â Liv wiped at her face  and plopped down on the couch. âDonât tell me you love me. You donât know the first thing about me. Yes. Iâm fucked up. And Iâm going to keep being fucked up because itâs the only fucking thing I know how to do.â
âDonât know. Doesnât look like it,â Pip was looking down at his knuckles as he cracked them anxiously. He looked up and felt bad, pretty bad instantly. He forgot about how he felt now that Liv was crying. âLiâLiv!â Pip stood up and followed her, The least he wanted to do was make her cry, no matter how hurt he was. He let her walk as he stood near a wall, head tilted down as his foot moved nervously. He listened and stared. That was the most common reason, an expected one. She had been hurt by someone in the past, but years ago? She had feelings for a lad who didnât treat her right years ago? There was more. She kept the ranting and he let her. When she went quiet, he hit the wall with his fist, not really hard, just to release some tension and feel the burning sensation to replace the emotional pain, nothing serious. Pip closed his eyes and leaned against the wall. âItâs not fair. Youâre twisting the plot, youâre making it about yourself and only yourself.âShe had a point, but in his eyes, it was more of an excuse.
He emmited a laugh and groaned, nearly pulling the hair out of his head. âGreat, now youâre the victim. You think you know me then? Because you know my cousin? Well, I have some news for you, Liv, Iâm not him. Iâm not choosing anyone over you, less of it, a mate of yours. And for the record, Iâve got the right of free speech so yes, Iâm gonna say I love you all the times I fucking want to. Iâll just tell you, being stucked in that little thought of yours is not gonna take that lad back to you.â No matter what he said, she wasnât going to change her mind. It all was a fucking excuse. âI donât even know why Iâm still here.â His voice cracked and he took his jacket and placed it over his shoulder. He could have rationalized with her but she was married to the wall she had built around her. He wiped his eyes and walked straight to the door. âI honestly hope you find a bloke whom you can really love, give him that opportunity. See you around. Liv.â He gritted his teeth before walking to where she was. He kissed her cheek. âI love you.â And he finally left, closing the door behind him.
Liv picked her head up to watch the door as it closed. The house was the quietest itâd ever been. Her hands were shaking because she was so upset. She could see the head of curly hair walking away just outside of the window. She knew what she wanted to do. Follow him. Shake him and tell him that they were both being stupid. That there was no way she could have him and Matty and for Pip to have just her. But Liv wanted Pip to want her. It was common for her to get what she wanted. Liv walked toward the door and swung her open. She watched as he kept walking, almost out of the estate. Liv balled her fists and followed him, leaving her door wide open. No wonder Agnes didnât want her staying there. Liv caught up to Pip and grabbed his shoulder to turn him around. She didnât say anything at first. Nothing came to mind. She didnât know whether to slap him or kiss him. A small shove came first. Then she pushed him a little harder. âYouâre such a fucking asshole. You think youâre just going to kiss me on the cheek and walk away. Cut yourself off from me? No. No andâ you donât get to tell me how I feel. Okay? Because I do like you. Yeah I may not love you but I donât know how to do that shit and you have to deal with that. Iâm not some skanky bitch from a romance novel. Iâm a fucking human being and you have to realize that.â Liv took a deep breath and began to back off. âNow I want to be your mate and work our way up from there. If you canât handle that then you donât love me Creevey. Final offer.â
It was as if his feet were guiding God knows where because Pip didnât even know where he was going to next. Everything had vanished around him and he was walking absent-mindly, angry with himself because he was crying over a girl who didnât feel the same. Every time he felt a tear daring to leave his eye, he quickly washed it off adn kept on striding away. Maybe he had even blocked his hearing because one moment he was looking ahead the road and the other, Liv was in front of him, again. He stared before looking up at the sky. She pushed him twice and he only closed his eyes, letting out a sigh. He wouldnât look at her when she spoke. âFinal offerâŠâ He mumbled, looking at her.
âAnd what am I then, Liv? A fucking dog?â He felt angry, just like when his mother conditioned him to do something he didnât want. Life didnât work that way, âAnd you canât tell me how to love you, yeah? Youâve practically done it since we met and I donât know who youâve been with but Iâm not like them. I donât play the âtake me or me leave meâ game, yeah? Better get yout head straight.â Pip took hold of her shoulders, his face close to hers but it was expressionless. âWhat the fuck do you want? I kiss ya and you donât want it; Ieave and you get mad. Youâve just told me youâre into some lad, that youâve been into him for ages but youâre not built over a romance novel? Sounds pretty Penelope and Odysseus to me.â
Pip was pretty desperate and angry but trying not to show it. âI canât, okay? I canât be mates with someone I love, did ya hear that? At least not fuckinâ now, why canât you take that? What the hell do ya want from me? You only like the fact I want you, thatâs all.â As she wasnât talking, he licked his lips and let go off her shoulders, but remained in the same position. âTell me something, then, and Iâll try and figure out if a⊠friendship can be created from here. You and Alo, that small trip you made. What happened? Because Iâm not stupid, yeah? He didnât mention it just because.â
Liv crossed her arms and huffed. She looked down at her folded, guarded demeanor then dropped her arms to her side. It was hard for her not to be on edge all of the time. But she didnât want Pip walking away again. She couldnât get defensive because he was asking for the truth. She looked away from him and shrugged her shoulders. âI had this weird situation with my roommate in London. I needed a break from it. I rung Alo and we decided to go on little road trip. I already told you what happened.â Her eyes met with Pipâs again. Liv was the one claiming she wanted to be friends. That wouldnât happen if she couldnât be completely open and honest with him. âAndâŠI sort of came on to him. Just to see if he would do it. It wasnât serious. He ended up vomiting on me and falling asleep on the floor. Nothing actually happened. Thank God.â
She stared at him. Ready for him to walk away again. He didnât want to be her friend. But Liv couldnât help but feel like if she let him leave she was letting something good walk away. It was more than likely she wouldnât see him again after today if she didnât stop messing about.
âPip. I do like you. A lot. A lot a lot. And I donât want to lose you. I donât want to fight with you over stupid shit that doesnât matter. Just stay. For the rest of the day. Please?â
Pipâs heart felt like it was going to get out of his chest. He already know what had happened, it was kind of obvious, but did he really want to hear it? But when she said it, he felt as if she had slapped him with a piece of wood and as if Alo had slept with his wife. He stared at Liv for a moment, hurt as he could be but trying not to let it show. She had added the It wasnât serious part just to rest importance to it, which didnât work. What to do, what do to? He just wanted to turn around and leave but then again, he couldnât, as if Liv was holding him down with a rope.
But she always managed to convinced Phillip with her poisonous words. It was like a mermaid that bewitched you when it sings. Pip bit in the inside of lip and sighed, looking away. âI donât know, Liv.âHe replied after a moment of being quiet. She was trying, wasnât she? So it was fair to go back to her place⊠Doubtful. Now, when seeing at her, Pip could inly see Alo too. Why him? Why was the redhead so appealing for people? But he was in love, which meant he was dumb and helpless and Liv knew how to take advantage of it. He walked closer to her and nodded. âOkay, Iâll stay. For⊠friendship or⊠whatever. Just donât mention what happened with you and my cousin again. Itâs weird.â He touched her cheek and headed back to Livâs house. Â
âNothing happenedâŠâ she muttered but decided to let it go. It was best for everyone involved to not talk about it. Pip was giving her another chance. Thank God. She followed next to him on the walk back to her place. There was no reason why they couldnât watch a movie and eat junk food together. She could control herself for the duration of the movie. Even if Pip was really fit when he was upset. She peeked at the side of his face every so often and smiled to herself. They could be friends. It was possible. And maybe down the line something else would blossom. Liv felt like she had unfinished business with Matty and that was something she wanted to explore.
She nudged him. Liv was tired of walking in silence. âYou know what would cheer you up? Brownies. We can make a batch and watch a shitty movie.â She was trying to hard and it was obvious. But Liv didnât care. Even if things were weird between them she loved spending time with Pip. âI make the best brownies in Bristol Iâll have you know. Chocolate seeping out of your pores. And obviously you love chocolate.â She joked. Â
âShhh. Iâve got quite an imagination, okay? Jesus.â Pip shook his head and closed his eyes. Fucking Alo. He was so going to die for keeping important information from him. He eyed Liv when she nudged him and pursed his lips, then narrowed his eyes. âBrownies? I havenât baked since I was like five but Iâll give it a try. But I donât exactly love chocolate, I mean, I-- oh.â He rubbed the back of his head and shook his head, a little annoyed at first but hey, he had to admit it had been a funny joke. âClever girl. Shut up. You love vanilla too much and Iâm not yelling it.â He smirked and slid his hands inside his pockets. In moments like this one it felt like being friends was actually possible. But then Pip looked at her body and it all went south. Literally.
âYou would need you teach me. I learn fast. How come I didnât know that?â As if they had known each other for years. But if a girl knew how to make brownies, that was something he had to know, especially since he didnât cook for shit. He could if he wanted to but it meant work and Pip never worked. Stealing and snatching money from people at eating and drinking tournaments was what he did best. Speaking of which... âLook, I got you one free shirt from that shitty gig. Didnât remember until now. The lad is not handsome but hey, you could use to sleep or... clean?â It had been under his own shirt the whole time. Couldnât he just snatch something better? A t-shirt? Crap. Now his hand was starting to hurt again.
