The god that holds up the heavens. Nice to meet you Piper.
"That's a heavy burden to have on your shoulder. And it's nice to meet you as well, Atlas."
"I suppose so, I pretty much don’t get the time to read. Is it really always busy there? I think it sounds like fun, everyone wants to be a hero."
"Well that's no fun. You should always make time to read--especially when reality becomes too much. Oh, I don't want to be a hero. I just want the cool powers and hot outfit."
"Like a stonemason, right?" He laughed warmly. "Way to try to be all scholarly and impressive, but that makes sense, even in English. I’m guessing Piper has something to do with music? Like the Pied Piper?"
"I think exactly like a stonemason," Piper agreed, her smile growing a little bit after it had fallen. Memories of her past had a tendency to do that to her. "I happen to read a lot, actually. But I suppose that might be implied since I work and enjoy working at the library. Oh, that would be lovely, wouldn't it? Save for the fact I can't play a single instrument and my singing is....simply put, awful."
I can see your point, even if i wouldn’t be able to actually know what to do if the day was so long.
"Personally, not knowing what to do would be the best. You could go for the longest run or read an entire book or fly to Paris and back or... something. I don't know. Work wise it would be lovely to have more."
Wouldn’t that be incredibly boring.
"To have as much time as I'd like? Not necessarily. If anything, it'd would be exciting. You could do as you please, whenever you want for as long as you want."
"I’ve never known someone who like swork so much they actually wanted to spend more time there. Maybe you are Wonder Woman."
"It's actually quiet peaceful working there, if you ignore the stress of having to do everything. More time would be lovely to have to do so; and then maybe I'll get the boots and the crown and the Amazonian powers."
My name is Atlas. And yours?
"Atlas... I like that. It's Greek, isn't it? I'm Piper."
A loud background? What, if I can ask, does that mean? Do you come from a circus family or something? And sure, we could go running sometime, I guess. But only if you think you can keep pace with the Mace. That’s me, hah. I’m Mason.
"Circus family is...definitely a way of putting it," Piper explained, her mind racing back to all those years within the system. "Mason.... I just read about that name in a book somewhere. It was a book all about origins and meanings. It's German--means stone worker. Though I guess barista is kind of close. I didn't reach Piper yet. I stopped at O."
Exactly. My friend Mason and I usually go running together in the evenings after the sun goes down. It’s been our nightly routine for as long as I can remember, but current circumstances have put it on a halt. Yeah. It is pretty good tea, but I prefer the hot chocolate I get from the Magic Bean.
That’s nice of you. I really hope so. I’d just like them to end already.
"You should start running again! You can join me when I go every night. When you're with a crowd running the police don't tend to pull you over. Though, that's a bit assumptive. You know, as strange as it sounds, I've actually never had anything from the Magic Bean... Never got around to it."
"Trust me. If there's any sort of cure for a headache it's a banana split."
In that case yes, I am speaking from experience.
"In that case, I find myself both terrified and intrigued. What's your name?"
Wow, I can’t imagine all that quiet. Must be.. nice? I can relate to the running though. Best stress reliever out there. Definitely come by! This invite is coming from the best barista in the Cove. Just don’t ask my sister.
"Quiet is incredibly nice, especially when you come from such a...loud background, I guess you could say. Finally--someone understands. I might drag you along with me sometime when I go running, er... Though, I suppose I should introduce myself. I'm Piper. Also known as the girl who might drink all your coffee if you're serious about that offer."
I love to run too. It’s very calming and helps me get my thoughts together. Yeah, sucks for anyone under 18. I’m kind of a night owl as well. Oh you work at the library? That’s cool. I’m a waitress at the Boathouse Bar & Grill
And same to you. Sure that sounds nice. Only a crazy person would turn down a banana split.
"It's just quiet at night, yeah? Helps you think and get your thoughts together. There's so much going on during the day--not to mention the heat--and it's just so frenzied. Really? I thought you looked familiar! I love the iced tea they have there."
"Awesome. My treat! Hopefully it takes the headaches away."
Experience of what, that ice-cream is a good solution or that forever sucks?
"Well of course ice cream is a good solution. A good banana split and Stephan King novel is all you need. It's the forever part I'm referring to."
"I’m sure your handling everything perfectly Piper. If they are asking you to do too much, you could just tell them. They probably need the help, they aren’t going to fire you for asking for a little less work. Is there anything I can do to help? I’m fine, not having any luck yet on tracking that rogue wolf yet."
"I think you have a little more faith in me than I do, Emma. I wouldn't want them to worry. For all I know, I may end up giving them a heart attack. The work isn't hard, even if it is a bit much, but I'm pretty sure I can handle it. Oh, you don't have to. It's just a lot of shelving and renumbering in the check out log."
For a moment maybe. But ice cream is a good solution.
"You sound like you're speaking from experience. Or maybe that's just my imagination."
You should swing by the Magic Bean—I totally could hook you up. When you’ve got time, of course. Do you really spend your whole day at the library?
"Y-you wouldn't have to. Honest. I manage. Um, well not all the time. I run at night right after closing. And then I go back because it's the only time I work in peace. And during the day I do a lot of recovery and making sure everything is in place, so.... Er. Maybe?"
