I know everyone and their mother has a reverse Bloodymary AU but I really love the idea of pilot Simon being the sole survivor and him feeling fucking useless because he doesn’t know science or engineering! Then he meets Rocky (because in my reverse AU, Grace is having to deal with Ellie and Simon having to deal with Rocky lmao) who’s an engineer and he’s like “thank fuck for that! But we’re still screwed as we have no scientists to do all these experiments or research that we can send back to Earth and for you to bring to Erid.”

Cue them meeting and saving Grace (ha) and once Grace has recovered mostly, he finds the lab and it’s like that scene from beauty and the beast where he shows her the library. Yeah, imagine a mutated Grace getting so excited about the lab and instantly knowing what to do and Simon is like “fuck…..”

Do you think Grace sees Rocky stretch one day on the Hail Mary and he says out loud without thinking “biiiggg stretch!” And Rocky is like “what’s big stretch mean. Question? Why Grace say that?” And Grace has to explain that humans have furry creatures they keep as pets and whenever they stretch, humans say that and Rocky remembers it. It becomes a problem when Grace is stretching and he hears Rocky say “Grace do biiiiggg stretch. Statement.”

Love the idea of aroacespec Grace and too-busy-being-dictator-to-entertain-the-thought Stratt not noticing even a little bit that they act too familiar. The Vatt sees Stratt steering Grace somewhere with a hand on the small of his back and go "👀😏" meanwhile the two of them are just like "ah yes very efficient for navigating crowds quickly :)". Something that's stood out throughout all of the dialogue in the movie is just how controlled Simon's breathing is. He is always measuring his breathing, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly to calm himself down. As soon as I was listening for it I realized just how constant and intentional it was.

He's familiar with terror. He's learned how to manage it, either by teaching himself or being taught by another. The deep, controlled breathing, the tactile self-soothing with his sheath— that's practiced. Habitual.

sometimes i think about the fact that when stratt finally gets ahold of the video diaries, her hair is of course already graying, her skin looser, eyes wiser but much more exhausted.

just like everyone else around her who knew grace.

carl’s hair is gray, there are bags under his eyes. the agents and the engineers have prominent lines on their faces. the diplomats are balding.

but she watches grace. she hears his laugh that doesn’t have the strain that hers does nowadays.

he is as young as the night, as warm as the sun. just as witty as she remembers.

as brave as the day he ran away.

as soft as the day she killed him.

at least i never have to hear you say, “i told you so.”

I love how Grace insults the guy by saying he's a "staggering waste of carbon". Not oxygen. Oxygen has been done before, a waste of the air you breathe, oxygen is mean, yes, but carbon. Grace gets right down to what humans are made of when he insults people and I love that tbh
