Amadeus is such a GOOD MOVIE when you don't have a bitch in your ear telling you that Salieri wasnt actually like that/it didnt actually happen whenever you utter a THING about his character or the plot. Like I KNOWW LET ME ENJOY MY HISTORICAL FICTION IM AWARE HE WASNT A BAD GUY 😭😭. I believe that most people going into Amadeus are aware that it's historical fiction but for some reason there always has to be that one guy adding that disclaimer even when it's just a discussion about the plot. Like boy I get it

i’m actually very intrigued by how Sylvia’s demeanor shifts between “phases” of lltbp. her appearances as the opera singer both before and after the latin american leg, she was very aggressive and prideful (each time, she’s batted away at her “handler”which at first i thought was intended to differentiate her from Marianne, though now it’s clear there’s a lot of unspoken intention to her character). what kinda gets me is that, even though Gerard does imply in the MOAT and during lltbp that she is abusive, that behavior isn’t as explicitly demonstrated while she’s acting as doctor/head nurse. in fact i think she was often quite doting as nurse Sylvia. obviously Charlotte Kelso is making informed character choices, and there’s some type of evolution between her position as a medical provider vs a performer. the simple explanation is that her status change provides her more leniency in behaving cruelly, while as a nurse she’s less able to outwardly leverage her authority (though obviously she does express this behavior in more private contexts). it is also entirely possible that the initial introduction of her character was solely intended to juxtapose her and Marianne (as it’s entirely possible she was originally introduced due to scheduling conflicts on Lucy Joy Altus’s end), and her continued development is simply revisionist. for the most part, i’m just peeved that in the off-stage lives of these characters, *something* happened to her to make her outwardly cruel, and i think it’s wrong of Gerard to gatekeep this information from me.
