is it just me or is the second lightlark book like a little too similar to manacled? it felt like a fanfic of a fanfic? has aster has clearly drawn heavy inspiration or am i just obsessed with manacled?
for one thereâs the clear connection of a dark emo bitch who is super powerful and will kill anyone to save the girl, but thatâs nothing new in the genre
thereâs plenty of easy connections that are still part of fic and fantasy culture
- healing each other during a mission thingy and bonding over it
- originally being a physical only relationship
- whole thing with nicknames then having impact when they say first names, also
- moment where sheâs like literally dying and he does something drastic to save her
but the things that REALLY gets me and makes me think this:
- memory loss in order to keep each other safe
- slow recollection of sais memories
- the whole thing with grim calling her a rose bc of the thorns or whatever?? rose in a graveyard?
- the emotion reading aspect of grim as with the emotion reading using the rings in manacled
- isla pulling her necklace whenever she needs him as compared to manacled and the rings
maybe iâm insane, i just see some things drawn that make me feel like aster is writing fanfiction
Drabble:Â âI wouldnât mind if you ruined my life, Granger.â
âQuit following me, Malfoy.â
Hermione walked to the back wall of the Manorâs library. She heard the door close behind her and presumed that Malfoy hadnât listened to her demand.Â
âWhy did you run away from the party?â
She had - quite literally - run from the room, but after what sheâd overheard, she was no longer in the mood to be surrounded by any more of Lucius Malfoyâs cronies.Â
âAccording to your father, Iâm just some silly girl out to ruin your life.â
She turned to see him strolling towards her. Even in her angered state, she couldnât help but admire how good he looked in his suit. Bespoke and fit to the black tie occasion, heâd garnered stares from nearly every woman he passed tonight. It was the same at every party his parents threw. He was always the star.
Malfoy didnât stop walking until he had her back pinned to the wall of books behind her.Â
âI wouldnât mind if you ruined my life, Granger.â
This wasnât the reaction she had expected. She searched his eyes for their usual twinge of mockery, but it was absent. On the contrary, his look was pleading, silently asking her to understand the position he was in.
Pitted between his father and his secret girlfriend must be a tough spot.Â
âIâm not in the business of converting ex-Death Eaters to the good side, but you might want to go let your father know that. He seems concerned.â
Malfoy sighed, running a hand through his neatly styled hair. He started to pace in front of her.
âLook, I donât know what you heard but -â
âIâll tell you exactly what I heard. I heard Lucius telling you to start distancing yourself from me. âSheâs bad for your imageâ. Something along those lines, if I remember correctly.â
He stopped his stride and began to remove the cufflinks of his shirt.Â
âIâm begging you to understand. From my fatherâs perspective, you and I are not supposed to be together - you go against everything my family believes in. To be associated with you romantically would completely ruin me and everything Iâve worked so hard to build -â
âDonât you think I know that? Donât you think Iâm reminded of that at every. single. one. of these parties I attend?â She wanted to yell it, scream at the top of her lungs how much those truths hurt to hear, but she despised the thought of any more Malfoys listening in to this conversation.Â
He shook his head, clearly frustrated at the direction their conversation was headed.
âYou didnât let me finish. Those are his opinions, Granger, not mine. I couldnât give a damn about any of those things -â
He reached to touch her face, grazing his hand across her cheek. Without thinking, she leaned her head into his palm, habitually, her eyes closed. She wanted to believe that what he was telling her was true.
âI want to be ruined by you.â
His voice was music to her ears, but his words were music to her heart.
âIâm done trying to be someone my parents want me to be. Iâm not that person. Iâll - Iâll burn every bridge Iâve built if it means that youâll be with me.â He let his finger slide lazily against her skin. She reveled in his touch. âRuin me. If it means youâll belong to me, Iâll destroy every part of my life that doesnât accept you in it.â
She could feel his suspense as he waited to hear her thoughts, but she kept her eyes closed. Could it be that the future that sheâd wanted for so long was finally achievable? It felt as though, if she were to open her eyes, reality would come and force their love back into hiding.
âHermione.â
The use of her given name caused her to meet his gaze. If looks could burn, she would have been an inferno.Â
âPlease, tell me what youâre thinking. Iâm begging you.â He removed his hand from her cheek and found her arm. He brought her hand to his lips, placing chaste kisses along the tender skin of her wrist.
âItâs become exhausting,â she said.Â
âWhat has?â he asked between kisses.
âPretending to hate you.â
Draco paused for what felt like an eternity. Hermione felt the weight of the moment - like the fate of their relationship hung in the balance of his next words.
âThen letâs stop pretending.â
She let out a sigh she hadnât realized sheâd been holding in.
âYouâre serious? Youâre willing to risk - everything?â
He grabbed her hand, pulling her into him. His hold felt sure and strong, like no matter what they were about to face, they would face it together.
âItâs time we let everyone know that youâre mine.â
I want to take a dollar bill and write âare you Misha Collinsâ on it and maybe one day itâll end up in his hands and heâd be the one mind fucked for once
Hi guys! Iâm sorry, Iâm sure youâve been asked this before, but do you have any recs where Aziraphale thinks demons/Crowley canât love? And he gets proven wrong, of course. Thank you for all that you do!
Hello. We have some fics in which Aziraphale doesnât believe Crowley loves him here and here on our #not actually unrequited love tag. And here are some fics in which Aziraphale doesnât think Crowley loves him and is proven wrong...
Find It in the Dictionary Under 'L' by his_infinitevariety (G)
Demons canât feel love, but Aziraphale canât help noticing how much Crowleyâs suddenly flinging the word around.
A feather to guide you home by IneffableDemon (T)
"I found the feather the day we met, okay? You wereâŠ" Crowley waved his hands around, trying to find the correct words. "I don't know, kind, nice, but not the usual cold angelic nice. You were actually nice. And you were different."
Believe Me, I Love You by AnonymousDandelion (G)
âIâm sorry," said Aziraphale. "Itâs just that itâs been a rather long time since anyoneâŠah, never mind that. Itâs a pleasant feeling, thatâs all.â
âA pleasant feeling,â Crowley echoed. There was a very, very strange expression on his face. âA pleasant feeling. To be⊠loved?â
Thatâs Not Funny by cyankelpie (G)
Aziraphale has never sensed even a shred of love from Crowley, which is perfectly alright. It isn't Crowley's fault demons can't love. But then Crowley makes what must be a cruel joke at his expense, and Aziraphale can't control his emotions as well while drunk.
Luckily, he doesn't remember the confession in the morning. Crowley doesn't see why the angel was so upset over something he probably knew all along, but he'll make sure it stays forgotten.
Thy Cup Runneth Over by childrenofthesun (M)
A few decades before the Apocalypse, the Archangels discover that Aziraphale is irreparably in love with Crowley.
Rather than smiting the demon, they take pity on their Earthbound operative, and remove the obstacle by giving Aziraphale exactly what he wants.
But obviously, a demon would never be able to feel love on their own, so they have to do something to ensure that Crowley will reciprocate Aziraphale's feelingsâŠ
Somebody to Love by Bookwormgal (T)
Everyone knows that demons canât feel love. It was one of those well-established facts that no one even bothered to doubt anymore. The sky is blue, the Ineffable Plan was beyond comprehension or understanding, angels do not question or doubt Her commands, and demons canât love. Angels could sense love and none of them ever sensed love in the presence of demons. Everyone considered that to be conclusive evidence and moved on. Believing otherwise was foolish and a waste of time.
But while it was considered an unquestionable fact of the universe, it wasnât quite accurate. Demons were perfectly capable of feeling love. Any form of love. Despite common knowledge and despite the fact that the Fall ensured that they could no longer sense Her love, demons can experience love.
What demons canât do, however, is feel love and survive.
đ breakfast - dove cameron, romantic ship with my love kaz, with some badass fight scene, like saving the crows asses, always when i listen this song i imagine myself in a super badass fight scene like a black widow đ
Breakfast
Pairing: Kaz Brekker x f!Reader
A/N: Dove Cameron songs make me go feral istg, they are so badass like all the time. At first, I didn't really know where I wanted to go with this, but as soon as I read the Black Widow bit, I just had to take inspiration from one of her fight scenes. I mainly took some of the moves from the interrogation scene in the first Avengers movie, so you might recognize the scenario. Also, apologies in advance, my fight scenes tend to get a bit chaotic lmao. Thank you for the request, and I hope you like it! Also, also, the reader is a Heartrender, but it only gets slightly relevant in the end of the fic, so I hope you don't mind that.
Summary: After being captured by some of the Dime Lions, you are done taking anyone's shit.
Genre: Action ig?? A bit of comedy too, because I am just so very funny and entertaining
Word Count: 2.4K
Warnings: Blood, fighting, broken bones, maaaaany profanities, violence and threats of violence and knives (and my shitty comedy lmao)
It was a trap. Of course it was.
As soon as Kaz had laid out his plan, you already predicted the many ways it could go wrong, but did he listen? Obviously not. It was too good to be true, a trade offer that would promise them twenty-five thousand kruge if they managed to trick an unassuming merchant. It apparently didnât strike anyone else as odd, that the transaction would happen in an old warehouse. How did Kaz not get suspicious of that? Especially since he had intended to only take Inej with him at first since he knew that they would be getting searched for pistols, and knives were way easier to hide than guns. But when you began berating him about his questionable thought process, he caved in. So after bickering with you for almost half an hour, he agreed to take you and Jesper with him.
And where did that get you?
His questionable plan landed you straight in the filthy hands of a group of Dime Lions.
The four of you were bound to chairs, hands tied behind your back so that you couldnât see how the string was fastened. You were sitting in a straight line, Kaz and you sat in the middle, while Inej sat next to you, and Jesper next to Kaz. They werenât as dense as you had hoped, so there was a decent bit of space between each of the chairs, stopping you from helping the others to get free. From the corner of your eye, you could see Kaz fiddling with his restraints, but his gloves and the position of his hands made it difficult to get a proper grip on them. You tried to do the same, but the tightness of the robes cut into your skin pretty harshly, making you refrain from attempting it any further.
One of Pekkaâs goons entered the dingy basement room with confident strides, causing the two already present men to step back a bit. Kaz clenched his jaw as he realized that the man was walking right toward him, twisting a small tactical knife around in his hand.
âWonât you look at that?â he jeered, a crooked grin on his lips, as he eyed the young man in front of him, âThe Bastard of the Barrel himself in all his glory. I see that your outdated information betrays you, Brekker.â
âBram, I see youâre still busy doing Pekkaâs dirty work.â he spat, regretting it immediately as a firm hand struck his cheeks, causing his whole head to whip to the side as he flinched.
âDonât get smart with me, you filthy canal rat, or I might carve that self-assured smile right off your face.â
You wanted to shoot an insult at the Dime Lion, but the glare Kaz gave you shut you up immediately. Much to your dismay, this silent exchange didnât go unnoticed. The man that had previously towered over him, now stood up straight again, taking painfully slow steps in your direction. Just by the subtle look of panic present in Kazâs eyes, Bram mustâve conceded exactly who you were.
âAnd who do we have here? Brekkerâs bitch.â he mocked, his foul breath fanned across your face, âIs it true what they say? A pretty face with nothing behind it? Does he really only keep you around because of your looks?â
His head turned towards Kaz expectantly as if he awaited an answer. When he only let out a few harsh breaths, letting his eyes travel between you, the man that was now stood in front of you chuckled menacingly. You recognized the look of regret in Kazâs expression, as he futilely tried to loosen his restraints. One of his hands grabbed your cheeks roughly, as he forced you to look at him. You could feel his dirty nails dig into your skin, but you were way too focused on the knife that was now way closer to your face than you wouldâve liked.
âI guess weâll find out, wonât we, sweetheart?â he asked smugly, bringing his weapon up to your cheek.
Before he was able to cut you, you took every ounce of bravery you could muster and spat right into his face. Bram cursed as he dropped the knife, his hands frantically wiping the spit out of his eyes whilst he took a few steps back. Without anyone noticing, your unrestrained feet slid the knife under your chair quickly, moving it out of your assaulterâs reach.
âY/N, stop it.â Kaz whispered through gritted teeth, trying his best to not let too much emotion show.
An unexpectedly heavy blow was delivered to your face, causing you to cringe at the metallic taste that collected in your mouth. Again, the man stood over you, an angry scowl on his features. He didnât have a weapon on hand this time, but you were well aware that heâd still be able to end your life in a matter of seconds.
âWell, the bitch part is true at least.â he grumbled, taking another look at the man tied up next to you, âI bet Brekker wouldnât particularly enjoy watching his little plaything bleed out on a filthy warehouse floor, would he? But I guess we might just check that reaction for ourselves. Letâs show her whoâs in power.â
Inej and Jesper stared at Kaz, silently pushing him to say something. However, if there was any witty word left on his tongue, it died as soon as he felt the severity of the situation settle in. If he could, he wouldâve wiped that devilish grin right off of Bramâs face. Instead, he was just staring glaring right at you, pleading with you to do something - anything if that meant that you would survive.
When the man in front of you tried to reach for your throat, you took a deep breath, focussing on your own strength. With a surprisingly strong kick, you went straight for one of his kneecaps, causing him to keel over with a shriek. He was knocked out temporarily after you jerked your head forward, leaving him stumbling toward the floor.
Even though you being tied to a chair was far from ideal, you decided to stand up, mentally thanking the Saints that they only tied your hands to the chair, and didnât think about restraining your torso. The position your body was in, was deeply uncomfortable, but all that discomfort went flying right out of the window, when the other two guards advanced, forcing you to act quickly.
Another harsh kick to the groin made one of them tumble backwards clumsily, causing him to fall right on his back with a grunt. The other one tried to throw a punch at you, but you were quicker than that. Before he could even bring his fist close to you, you ducked down, instantly turning your body, so that the chair you were still tied to dug crashed into his spine forcefully. You heard Jesper gasp as the man fell to the ground with a loud thud, scrambling to catch his breath.
The guard you had brought down previously seemed to be interested in another round, as he began to approach you again. You whipped around quickly, your chair only scraping him slightly. With your back turned to him, you threw yourself back, one of the chair legs slamming down on his foot, causing him to let out a pained yelp as he slumped forward. He didnât get much time to recuperate since you threw your head back, your hair striking his face harshly. Again, you managed to bring him down for good, when you used the chair to sweep him off his feet.
The other guard stood up again, but you knew that you probably wouldnât be able to beat him another time with the added weight of the chair on your back. Without thinking about the consequences, you threw yourself back roughly, causing the flimsy wooden chair to break on impact. Even though you wouldâve needed another moment to recover from the stinging pain in your back, you quickly shook off the now-loose ropes, trying to get back to your feet as quickly as you could, whilst grabbing one of the broken legs of the chair. However, you had been slower than you thought, since the advancing goon had already managed to take a hold of you, effectively putting you into a powerful chokehold. You were glad that you had thought about getting something to use as a makeshift weapon since the wooden leg proved to be a quite useful tool. With your back pressed against his front, you let your body jerk back, knocking the air out of his lungs and causing him to loosen his grip a bit. You held on tighter to the chair leg, bringing it towards his face with enough force to make him flinch backwards.
Since he was still hunched over slightly, he gave you the best possible position to bring him down for his good. You steadied yourself before you sprinted towards him, jumping forwards while your calves wrapped around his neck. The sudden bare force of your body weight brought him down in a matter of seconds, his own body crashing on the floor with an audible crack. The fall definitely caused some damage.
From the corner of your eyes, you could see Bram come back to life, scrambling on his knees to get to the knife you had tossed away from him earlier. But you were quicker. You broke out in a sprint, reaching him before he could grab the weapon. His arm was already stretched out when you ran up to him. With brute force, you brought your foot down on his arm, feeling the sensation of an actively broken bone underneath your shoes. He screamed out in pain, pulling his arm back as he frantically slid backwards, trying to get away from you.
âI thought you wanted to show me whoâs in power?â you began, wiping away the sweaty strands of hair, that had fallen over your eyes, âLet me show you power.â
Now that your hands were finally free, you could put one of your other talents to use. Your hands flew up in the air, following familiar movements as you thrust them away from you. His eyes widened when he felt the air get knocked out of his lungs. You moved a bit closer to him, leaning over his writhing body.
âYou really thought I was just Brekkerâs bitch?â you inquired lowly, now working to slow down his heart, âTrust me, I eat boys like you for breakfast.â
Another controlled motion finally made him drop his head back, his whole body fell limp as he went unconscious.
You let out a sharp breath, becoming acutely aware of the forming bruises on your back. The questioning or rather shocked faces of your friends stared daggers into the back of your head, while you tried to calm yourself down. When you turned around, you saw exactly that.
Inej, who had managed to loosen her ropes a little in the meantime gave you a questioning, but impressed look, her eyebrows raised, but her lips turned upwards in an impressed grin. Jesper just stared back at you dumbfounded. His mouth stood agape as his gaze travelled from the lifeless men on the ground to you. Kazâs expression was something between shock, amusement and awe, as he took in the scene in front of him. He had seen you use your Small Science before - of course he had - but he never knew that you were this well-trained in hand-to-hand combat.
âWhat the fuck was that?â the baffled Sharpshooter broke the silence, as his eyes shifted towards Kaz, âDid you know she could do that? Because I sure as hell didnât! And now I have to admit that I am slightly intimidated.â
You only shook your head in playful annoyance, picking up the knife before walking behind the still tied-up Crows. After a few skilful strokes, you managed to cut them free, giving them a quick moment to catch their own breath.
âJesper, Inej, go and check the west exit. We donât want to fall right into another trap.â Kaz ordered, his voice strict, but a bit less authoritative than usual.
They quickly nodded, slipping out of the room as soon as they could. You caught sight of his cane that had previously been tossed on the floor, as far away from him as possible. Before he could stand up, you picked it up for him, handing it over quickly to give him enough stability to walk. He didnât look at his cane when he took it, his eyes were fixed on you. Something akin to a smile - rather a crooked grin, but that is the best version of a smile Kaz Brekker can muster - flashed across his face, as he lifted himself from the chair.
âI did in fact not know that you could do that.â he said, beginning to slowly walk towards the door, âBut I have to say, Iâm more than impressed.â
âGood to know that my rusty fighting skills from the Little Palace are able to entertain some of you.â you joked, wiping some of the dried-up blood from the corners of your mouth, âAre you alright? That punch sounded quite harsh.â
He snorted at that, recalling the many hits you were confronted with only mere minutes earlier and how much he feared for your life whenever one of the goons stood back up.
âI was not the one that just got ragdolled around whilst being tied to a chair.â he retorted smugly, knowing that you wouldnât be fine with that answer, âBut yes, Iâm fine. The pain is numbed by the satisfaction of seeing that bastard get what he deserved. You? Any life-threatening injuries?â
âNot that I am aware of. Unless I faint, and you have to dramatically drag me back to the Slat, Iâll be fine.â
Kaz paused for a second as the memories of Bram calling you âBrekkerâs bitchâ flooded back into his mind. It made him gravely uneasy that people outside of the Dregs knew about his relationship, but what concerned him even more, was the fact that they mistook her for a defenceless little girl.
âY/N, you know that what Bram said isnât true? About you being myâŠbitch?â he started carefully, but you only chuckled.
âOf course, I know that.â you answered self-assuredly, âAnd judging by the way you looked at me earlier, we might have to give you the title of my bi-â
âDarling, donât finish that sentence, or I'll never let you go on a job again.â he threatened playfully, shaking his head in amusement as he led you out of the warehouse.
I love six of crows for many reasons but one of my favorite ones is that thereâs no ârevenge will not make you feel betterâ, âyou need to forgive to move onâ bullshit. Like itâs clear revenge wonât undo the harm done to Kaz by Pekka, that hunting slavers wonât erase the violence Inej went through or the things van eck did to Wylan, for example, but making them pay? Making sure they wonât do it to anyone else? That shit is gonna make a difference.
Especially in their world, thereâs no godly justice, no one will come to save them, so they save themselves and they assure no one will be harmed the way they were by those people. I eat that shit up!!!!!
