I saw the other question and thought I'd ask: do you have tips on drawing starscreams face? I'm not a beginner but for some reason i can never get tfp screamers face down

Same rule as before really! practice (see my own progression drawings underneath)

Some tips though, would be to draw him “pointy”. Try not to use round lines and draw using straighter ones. If you look at my drawings of him, you can see I don’t actually use many ‘curvy’ lines at all. It’s much easier to create the basic shapes of the different areas of his face by using straight lines

His face isn’t as long as you think. Try keeping his chin shorter but also make sure to add some ‘motion’ to his face. You can do this by pointing the lower part of his face outwards. Try exaggerating the lines of his face more than what you see in your reference. This makes your drawing more interesting

And to show that practice makes perfect here are my improvements over the years. Done with pencil, straight out a sketchbook. Last one was done today!!

Can you tell us about your experience in drawing Starscream

First tip: practice! To get good at anything you need to do it all the time

For beginners, I’d start drawing on paper, not a screen. Teaching yourself to draw is about making mistakes, so drawing with materials that aren’t easily erased is the best way to learn. If you want to be good at drawing a specific character, keep practicing them and don’t worry about the mistakes (I’ve been sketching transformers for nearly 8 years and it’s always the practice drawings that teach me the most)

If you specifically want to draw Starscream from tfp, then I can tell you he’s not as hard to draw as he looks. Use reference from the show, not other peoples art, that way you’ll learn his anatomy and expressions based on the “real” version of him. I frequently use photos of him combined with male life drawing references to create realistic poses for his character

If you look at the photo I’ve posted at the top, you can see a study I did to practice anatomy, compared to how I’ve used that as my reference to draw Starscream. His anatomy is very similar to ours. All you really need to do once you’ve got a basic pose sketched out, is make his chest and shoulders broader and make his limbs longer. I’ve studied life drawing for two years and I’d always recommend learning to draw human anatomy as it’s a fundamental to creating professional drawings

I’ve been drawing SS for a long time, so my own experience is basically just occasionally getting the urge to draw him. And then over the years I’ve just got better and better. So again it all just comes down to practice!!
