“Gentlemen, thank you for joining me, and welcome to Alola.”
The man on the other side of the desk was older than both Vincent and Logan combined, a bit on the large side, and had a kind face. Vincent could tell that he was not one to be messed with, however, and made sure to do what he could to stay on his good side.
“We’re thankful we were allowed to come,” Vincent said as he took an offered seat, while Logan silently took the other one.
The Ranger chief nodded. “Well, you two seemed to be in the middle of things before, we agreed that having you on board this investigation would be a good idea. But before all that, let us have proper introductions. I am Chief Fai, and this is our small branch of the Pokemon Rangers. It is fairly new, as Alola is very peaceful, but with Team Skull riling up the people and Pokemon, the organization thought it would be good to have a team here as well.”
Vincent nodded. “I’m Vincent, and this is my Ranger-In-Training, Logan.”
“Hi,” Logan said, trying hard not to speak too quietly. Vincent had recognized it as something of a business voice, he heard the same thing from a lot of retail workers. It was very unnatural to him, but he sounded good enough with it.
The Chief chuckled. “No need to be too formal. We are fairly relaxed here. Rules and respect of command is important, of course, but we consider each other family on these islands. Go ahead, lean back!”
Vincent saw Logan visibly relax, slumping just slightly in his chair and leaning back in it. He himself only readjusted in his chair. “I don’t mean to seem rushed, but, what did you have for us?”
Chief Fai sighed and leaned back in his own chair. “Unfortunately, not much. While it was a breakthrough that led you here to our region, we sadly have no other information. We can confirm that the Pokemon, or at least some of them, did come from Alola. But how they left we have no idea. Our only real lead for you is Team Skull. Over the past few years they’ve been growing and being more of a nuisance, but few take them seriously. Many of their grunts are child’s play, literally, as many children with their own Pokemon manage to defeat them in battles. However, they do attempt to steal Pokemon from people, and we know some of their higher ranking members are dangerous. But we haven’t been able to catch any of them.”
Vincent nodded. “Do you know anything about where they tend to be, or how we can find them?”
Fai stroked his chin for a moment in thought. “Not much, they seem to appear and disappear at a whim, but they do often harass those taking the island challenge, as those Trainers often have stronger Pokemon, making them both bigger targets, but also more capable of defeating the grunts in battle. We have no reports of stolen Pokemon recently, but we have had reports of Skull grunts accosting trial-goers.”
Vincent saw Logan glance at him, and he looked back at the younger boy. “Well, you wanted to do the trials here anyway. How about you go take them, make yourself as big a target as you can, then see what you can learn from these guys?”
Logan grinned and nodded. “Sounds good to me. What about you?”
He turned back to the Chief. “Any suggestions?”
“Well, you could have a look through what reports we do have, and Professor Kukui has Pokedex data from many Trainers you could use to compare notes against the Pokemon you had rescued in Unova,” he suggested.
“Sounds good,” Vincent agreed. “I’ll do that. Was there anything else?”
The Chief opened a drawer on his desk and fished his hand inside for a moment before pulling out two keys and handing them to each of them. “Your hotel room keys. You are free to use them for as long as you stay in Alola, free of charge, room numbers are on the tag attached to the keyring.”
Both Logan and Vincent reached forward and took the keys.
“Aside from that, my door is always open, feel free to drop by with any questions or new information you manage to attain. Good luck.”
“Thanks,” Vincent said, mentally adding to himself “We’ll need it…”

“No, no!” Logan insisted as he peeked over Vincent’s shoulder. “She’s really upset you should’ve texted her as soon as you got here!”
Vincent jerked, not having noticed the younger Ranger looking over his shoulder. “Excuse me?”
“Don’t you text her like, all the time? If you didn’t even turn your ‘caster on for two days, she’s probably worried! Tell her you’re sorry, and offer to call her!”
Vincent raised an eyebrow at Logan, but he had to admit, he was better at having friends than he was.
