problem w the star wars prequels is ppl are SO needlessly mean about them when they are basically fine so i want to defend them. but also they are full of the most genuinely baffling writing decisions.

original trilogy implies that Yoda was Obi-wan's teacher and then TPM turned around and gave Obi-wan a completely different teacher (and yes I know AOTC smoothed this over by suggesting that Yoda trains all the younger padawans but cmon)

Qui-gon's existence also necessitates making Obi-wan about 10-15 years younger than he logically should be

tying themselves in knots to both have Anakin be a child in TPM and have Padme be an adult(ish) politician without making their romance weird. this does not work.

making an entirely new planet for Padme to be queen of when Alderaan was right there?? like fr they had an opportunity to feature Alderaan as a setting and give its destruction in ANH more weight and just never took it

at one point in TPM the story gets put on hold so they can do an 8 minute long homage to Ben Hur.

yeah dfgkjhdfgkj. saw someone suggest that they could have had Anakin's best friend on Tatooine (who is a character in TPM) be Owen. then they could have followed up on that in AOTC. but like they patently just have no interest in Owen and/or Beru as characters dfkjghfdlkghf

other fairly simple ways these could have been smoothed over:

just don't have Qui-gon be Obi-wan's teacher? like he could still be in the film and play the same role but they could just be 2 jedi who are good buds and working together

Anakin & Padme could just both have been teenagers in TPM. this probably would have gone a lot better for the filmmakers as an older kid might well have been better received in the role than Jake Lloyd. (no disrespect to Jake Lloyd. he did nothing wrong.)

Alderaan thing speaks for itself

no notes on the Ben Hur thing. if anything make it longer.
