few hills i’m still standing on as of rn:

trans people don’t hold any meaningful power to oppress each other gender-wise

if your trans/feminism doesn’t acknowledge that trans men and mascs do not benefit from and are oppressed by patriarchy, i’m not taking anything you say seriously

strong solidarity with people who are intersex, who are gender non-conforming, who are cistrans, detrans, or re-trans, post-gender, mspec, multigender, xeno, etc.

identity labels are tools. not laws, not science, not the holy bible of queerness

i don’t believe in “punching up”. an oppressed group has no meaningful power to damage social positions of members of privileged groups without a coherent strategy and some serious organising. your hit will land sideways, and most likely will worsen the lives of those who are already less privileged than you. all the ways you can “punch” come from the toolbox of your oppressors; it doesn’t matter how creative you get with trying to “repurpose” and “(re)invent” slurs and other abuses - it will always hit the most vulnerable minorities first, without you even knowing. the system is designed that way, there’s not workarounds and no shortcuts. if you care for anyone other than yourself - stop using your master’s tools

i also don’t believe in call-outs, punitive justice, reliability of gut reactions, “narc abuse”, bio- and gender essentialism, transmedicalism, and respectability politics

sex work is work; decriminalize sex work; swerfism doesn’t do shit for sex workers, but unions do

USSR sucked. i don’t mean it in a pro-capitalist/anti-communist way, it genuinely did suck

Actually it’s easier for people with very specific bodies (white, thin, average height) with large incomes and supportive families to transition medically in a way which is more likely to conform to strict ideas of ‘man’ and ‘woman’

I swear every time I see someone try to make the argument for one of us having it better they exclusively either cite celebrities (again, see white, rich, thin) or assume that the people they know irl are representative of every trans person.

It also begs the point that YOU DO NOT KNOW IF SOMEONE IS STEALTH UNLESS THEY TELL YOU. No one actually knows how many trans people successfully live as stealth.

Most of the passing trans people I know personally are women, but most of the trans people I know to be stealth are men. I also know far more trans women than I do trans men. Not to ignore the fact that these arguments completely erase non binary people who are pressured to just pick a binary gender to ‘pass’ as because it is functionally impossible to be a ‘stealth’ non binary person.

It is completely possible to have important conversations about the specific oppressions that different kinds of trans people face without framing one group as being completely objectively better off. Stop trying to pit us against each other. It isn’t easy for *anyone* to be trans in this world.

It’s hard enough to encourage the public to see the value in space exploration, especially when the problems facing society right now are so intense that space exploration seems frivolous and needlessly expensive by comparison (keyword “seems”) but now that this clown is the face of the future of space, it’s doubling, hell, tripling down on the idea that space exploration is a fantasy for bored billionaires that would rather fuck off to mars and escape the problems of earthly society (problems that they had a starring role in creating) rather than spend a penny of their wealth to help remedy them. To add a little bit of context as to what that value actually is… The thing I hear the most in this conversation is “we need to take care of this planet before we start thinking about other ones.” Yes, I agree. The well-being of our planet and it’s people should be out top priority. But we can’t properly take care of our planet if we don’t fully understand it.

The Earth does not exist in a bubble. It’s part of a dynamic and ever-evolving solar system, and galaxy and universe. He have to look at the earth in that context to be able to know and care for it. To care for a planet, we have to know how planets work. When doctors treat patients they look at the medical record, they look at family history, they look at symptoms and compare them to known diseases to find a diagnosis.

How did the earth form? What was it like in the past? Why did it change? That’s the medical record.

We’ve got the earths siblings in the neighborhood. Why is Mars a frozen desert? Why is Venus a molten hell scape? Could those things happen here? That’s the family history.

What kinds of things are floating around our neighborhood? Could they affect us? All this is necessary to diagnose the Earths problem, to anticipate the direction it’s going, and to help it heal.

And the minute we get an asteroid scare, that’s when folks start asking why we weren’t looking up 🙄

As a science communicator at a well known establishment, 10000x this. We have a student program that talk about Earth systems and how missions like Landsat were so useful to understand our own planet better FROM SPACE. I could go on and on but just, like, reread OP's thoughts, they're perfect.

Seeing this post shared uncritically has deeply pissed me off, because there are several layers of misinformation in it. It is not true in the first place that 60% of trans people incarcerated in the UK are charged with sexual crime, yet the response seems to take that as true. Secondly, selling sex itself is not illegal in the UK and sex workers are not prosecuted as sex criminals here solely for selling sex. The risks of criminalization come with brothel keeping charges and facilitating/inciting, for which roughly 10 people a year total receive prison sentences (most not being sex workers) and these aren't even sex offences!

The 60% claim comes from here, and it's based on incomplete data which examines only a fraction of trans prisoners, and the person above has actually only used the statistic for trans women. For reference, 19% of the overall prison population are incarcerated for sexual offences. This is because trans prisoners' existence is only recorded in the cases where a "local case board" was arranged to deliberate on how a trans person should be treated with regards to their gender. These local case boards often won't be held for lesser offenses and are most likely to be held (unsurprisingly) for sex crimes, and also are not held if the trans person decides not to disclose that they are trans (which we can do even if visibly medically transitioning).

This data was also collected before the recent legal guidelines changes which make trans people guilty of sexual offenses if we don't disclose we're trans before sex. This will of course skew the data even further, because these actually will be treated as sex offenses.

I'm admittedly especially frustrated that I found this level of misinformation shared by a blog supposedly dedicated to pointing out and challenging whorephobia. (@this-is-whorephobia)

The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.

It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.

After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.

I am hoping to collect several thousand such posts, so that I have a decent sized dataset. I do not care what the post is about; if it's labeled as "mature content", I want to add it to my dataset.

If I get 10,000 posts in my dataset before August 31st 2026, I will post my preliminary findings then. I won't feel comfortable calling my findings "settled" before 2027, unless I get over 50,000 posts.
