you don't need to say the name, but, as someone who struggles differentiating ai from reality, who is the ai-preview-user on the DL? i refuse to support ai "creators"
Oh I don't have a problem naming people; it's SonyaSims. Honestly I forgot their name wasn't on the preview pic or I would have added it myself.
Jellypawss does the same thing, but they use AI for previews and in their actual meshes, which is extra fucky. At this point I'd assume they probably use it for all their mods, so. 🤷 Do with that what you will.
Dustyratt used to use AI in their stuff, I dunno if they still do.
Someone was out there making AI custom loading screens but I don't remember the name. :T
(edit: mii-mii-xxx was the AI loading screen person, although I think there's others too.)
AI is getting harder and harder to distinguish from real, human-made stuff (I've been fooled myself plenty of times 😭) so you aren't the only one struggling. Shit's lookin' grim, man.
Hey you guys are free to reblog this with your own additions if you know of AI creators that I don't. I can only comment on what I see, and I don't see everything.
Also just to clear this up because there seems to be some confusion, the reason this is such a problem is (mostly) twofold:
Generative AI has a horrible environmental impact, and since I live on this earth, I'd like to avoid killing it even faster than we already are, if at all possible. :') (*No shade to people who didn't know this; it took me way too long to learn it myself. The gen AI industry has a vested interest in making sure people don't know how badly they're fucking us, but by now there's a WHOLE lot of evidence against them.)
AI isn't actually intelligent, and it doesn't think up anything on its own--it only scrapes already existing, human-made content and mashes it together into something "new." It's a plagiarism machine that steals from real artists. Artists should have the right to decide how their work is used and to be financially compensated for its use, and AI violates that on every level. To further quote the linked article:
One [argument] might be that training an AI system on human-created art is no different to a human artist taking inspiration from other human artists and going on to make their own art that reflects that influence. But I would say that this doesn't quite hold up – a human artist taking inspiration from another human will – unless they are an outright plagiarist - add their own human qualities to come up with something that exhibits their own human creativity. A computer algorithm can't do that – it might mash it together with influences from other human artists, but it will never create anything that is truly new or original.
Now, I can't get mad at people who get duped by AI and may unintentionally use an AI-generated element in something they create, because sometimes people lie and advertise something as non-AI generated when that isn't true. I've had to do a doubletake on patterns that were advertised as human-made but upon closer inspection looked to be AI. 😩I'm not trying to start a witch hunt here.
But knowingly incorporating AI into your work on purpose is a big issue for me, and I like knowing which creators are doing it so I can personally avoid them. I just want transparency so I can make informed decisions on what I'm consuming, y'know?
