just discovered this adorable new game thatâs coming outâ itâs a sim game where you farm, craft, sell, and quest, among other things! itâs going to be released in december, with planned updates for the next year. it has online multiplayer, plus really neat twitch integration (people in the chat show up around the island!). iâm so excited for it, and already backed it for early access in october! i also downloaded the demo and want to stream it maybe next weekend? you can find the kickstarter here and download the demo here.
Note: this kickstarter ends Sunday, September 9, 2018.
This is not an exaggeration. Your download speed would slow down to the point where Windows would make this kind of absurd estimate, and youâd sigh and leave the room for a while (because you couldnât use the computer while it was doing this for fear it would crash and lose all your progress) and then youâd come back in 40 minutes and maybe it would now say 52 years or maybe it would say 3 minutes, who knew, not Windows.
It was also really common for the 'time remaining' to start counting UP after it got about half way or so. I'd forgotten about the fear of crashing thing. We take our modern systems' stability for granted...
Game: whenever youâre playing one of those artsy âno dialogue, let the visuals tell the story!â video games, assume that your character is here to fix the wi-fi. Interpret all events in light of this assumption.

One of my favorites! (once one or two cheat codes are applied, anyway... I'm a busy person, I need to condense my entertainment sometimes!)
I came across this gorgeous thing today. This has been brilliantly described as a "cinematic 2.5D platformer", which uses the power of modern graphics processing to spice up what would otherwise be rather traditional gameplay. We saw something very similar with Inside, where the background told the story and the foreground dictated gameplay. It's a perfect use of a part of games that used to be deligated only to setting the mood and theme of a level. I love a good mood and setting as well (Donkey Kong Country 2 will always have a place in my heart), but I also like seeing boundaries pushed in new and exciting ways.
One Hour One Life appears to be a multiplayer society building game, where each hour-long play through represents one generation. the world is static, the players come and go (get born and die). The implied goal is to discover new technology to pass on to the next generations (other players) and to build a civilization. I think it's a very interesting idea for a game, encouraging cooperation in a way that's rarely seen in today's gameplay world (Especially massively multiplayer games). And there also seems to be a rare chance for examining the meaning behind life on a cosmic scale... The game was built by Jason Roher, creator of the equally imaginitive two-player storytelling platform Sleep Is Death, and the mind-bending procedurally generated shoot-em-up Inside a Star-Filled Sky
the finished dice! they have curled up embroidery thread in them, hence the hint of yellow/gold. they arent perfect, some more flawed than others, but im thrilled with how they came out for a first attempt
Very cool! I love the embroidery thread idea, and thatâs really good for a first try! Keep at it, theyâll only get better :D
those look like so much fun! Iâd probably want to back up those latex molds with two shells made of plaster strips, to give a hard backing. Plaster for integrity, latex for detail. Then you can be sure the final result didnât get warped by gravity.
yeah i definitely need to reinforce the molds next time, the d20 and d6 in particular came out real wonky. my only concern is that using plaster strips might make it difficult to get some of the bigger dice out of their small openings
If you can make the plaster parts in two pieces, with a seam down the middle, this should solve that problem. To release the dice, you'd pull the two plaster supports off each side, and remove the latex like normal. I'd build one half first, with a flange around the edge, and then once that dries, line the flange with something thin with a hole for the latex (Maybe tinfoil would work?) so the second part can be built up against it without sticking.

Adding some final touches to Equilinox and announcing the release date in this week's devlog video!
I left this important business accessory in a Staples.

Game Summaries for Everyday Things
My new favorite hobby: Describing real-world activities as if I was sumarizing a new game. European Football: A realistic remake of Rocket League, except with human bodies instead of rocket cars. Designed with spectators in mind, it contains larger teams, no walls, and an unusual added challenge... Don't let the ball touch your hands! Learning to walk: Procedurally generated QWOP-like about taking one's first steps. Coordinate various limbs, maintain balance, and by all means, avoid the stairs. Life: An open-world, massively multiplayer blend of Sims and Grand Theft Auto, life manages to create a world with infinite freedom and possibility. Form relationships, build a carreer, or throw away the rules and embark on a life of crime. The world is yours in this often touching, surprisingly challenging new game.
Perfect magnets
Fun story: One of the first things I was taught as an astronomy student is that, if you want to be a dick to someone giving a presentation, ask them âand how do the magnetic fields play into this?â and they will invariably say âfuck you I donât knowâ because no one understands magnetic fields they are black magic.

Magnets are pure bullshit.
Pure utter bullshit. Electromagnetic forces somehow outstrip gravitic forces in strength by an obscene factor, for no reason I can comprehend and it bothers me.
One, that gif showing the Curie temperature is really cool.Â
Two, you donât understand, magnetic fields are the bane of my existance and I have a masters dissertation about them. I studied how magnetic fields develop in low mass stars and every single meeting with my supervisor ended in some conversation about how stupid magnetism is.
âOh yeah and this is effected by the magnetic field strengthâŠâ
âBut why?â
âGod knows, I donât have a clue.â
Was literally said to me by a professor who has spent 20 years of his life looking at magnetism in stars.
ALSO:
âDonât ask why, we donât know. Maybe magnetism? Who knows anything about magnetism.â - My Stellar Physics professor when asked about certain processes in stellar formation, something he has been studying for 10 years.
Like we know so little about that itâs actually funny.
I think I may have been too hard on Insane Clown Posse back in 2009.
This is everything I've ever wanted in a platformer game.

I don't usually like nostalgic platformers, but this one seems perfectly put together... I see so many aspects of all the games I used to enjoy.
