"Kankuro, I'm not sure I feel comfortable with this..." said Gaara, squirming to avoid the halloween facepaint the elder sibling was trying to apply "Hey, listen bro, this is the one time of the year I don't get any grief over the facepaints so you're gonna enjoy it with me, 'kay?" the younger brother begrudgingly accepted his fate, through sympathy more than anything, and sat still "You'll make a wonderful skeleton-kage bro" he continued, spreading the white paint over the redhead's face.
"Hey Tema, you almost ready!?" Kankuro called to the other room where the third sibling was herself getting ready "The party will be over before we even arrive at this rate!"

"Meh, she used to be" he scoffed quietly "But she got some new thing as head of the Suna guard or something but Gaara still needs one of us to take him places" she seemed confused, is it that odd a request? he wondered sure, Iâve been here before but since the big rebuild everythingâs been changedâŠhe felt somewhat embarrassed now âWell, to be honest, you should try being a tourist in Suna⊠Itâs got everything you could want, if you want sand that isâ he joked, At least Konoha has trees and fields and giant mountain faces⊠Suna needs some giant mountain facesâŠ
"Oh I see." she said, flicking the last pedal from the follower in his direction. Oops. Not meaning to flick it in his direction she watched it fall in front of him and made a face. â I ⊠A tourist?â She laughed, she was pretty bad at directions and things that that. Yeah, riiight. She turned her head a bit, looking around. âIs there a certain place youâd like to go to or⊠aimlessly walking around?â
The elder nin let the petal fall, paying it little more than a passing glance as it floated aimlessly towards the ground, he continued to stroll alongside the Konoha resident, pondering her question for a few seconds. Well I donât really know whatâs aboutâŠÂ He thought, but more pointless wandering seemed, well, pointless. âWell⊠I think there was something I saw on my way hereâŠâ Kankuroâs sense of adventure was tingling as evident from his devilish grin âAn old mansion on the outskirts of town⊠looks like no-oneâs been there in years, proper spooky like, wanna check it out?â
"An old mansion?" she questions and pulled her attention to him. Sakura was a huge baby when it came to âscaryâ things, but she loved scaring herself. Plus, she didnât wanna seem like a wuss in front of  Kankuro. Trying to keep a straight face, and show no fear at all she smiled slightly tilting her head. "Sounds fun.. Where did you see it at? Iâve never noticed an old mansion around here."
"Ahh now thereâs the leaf village spirit Iâve heard so much about!" he said with enthusiasm, his passion for the creepy or supernatural being sparked during the pre-Halloween weeks "Ahh well it was on the road between Suna and here, about half mile away, câmon Iâll show you!" he led her out of the village and down the path at a comfortable pace.
The place was indeed an old mansion, exactly where the sand-nin had said it was, the place was run down, like itâd been empty for years, the wood was rotting and the glass was smashed and the whole place was locked in shadow, as if some non-existent thundercloud loomed overhead, the grass was overgrown and weeds had grown endemic. It was the perfect haunted house.
"SoâŠ" he began, looking the dilapidated structure over "Whaddya think?"Â
Sakura let out a soft laugh and followed after him, saying a few paces behind him. Why havenât I noticed it before? I always walk around here. She loved creepy thing, even though she is a huge baby when it came to things like that. She didnât know why she loved being scared, but she got a kick out of it afterwards.Â
"Iâve never noticed it before.." she said in slight whisper.Â
She looked the place over a few times, with an awkward felling in her stomach. Like an empty, yet heavy feeling. A little nervous, but still excited.  She took a deep breathe in, taking a few steps closer to the mansion looking over it again. What do I think? Is that even a question.." Itâs.. Creepy.. is it supposed to be haunted or something?"
She sighed, she was kind of anxious now. The place was pretty creepy looking, but not enough for her to back out. Maybe the closer they got the more scared sheâd get? Here we go.Â
"Well haunted would be fun..." he chuckled, creeping theatrically up the porch and ascending the stairs, slightly surprised they didn't give way through dry rot "only one way to find out" the front deck was just as dark and ominous as the rest of the building, the wood was all blackened as if it'd been burnt and through the windows you could see nothing but darkness Oooh... creepy... Kankuro loved creepy.
He continued standing square to the door. It was large and black with intricate engravings to the left and right of an enormous darkened bronze door knocker in the shape of a man's face, he was wide eyed and frowning, as if he was scared of something stood mere feet from the pair. Above it was a large engraved plate, also bronze but covered in ash, Kankuro scraped away some of the encrusted ash and read the inscription.
"The Sanctum... October..." he read aloud, shrugging it off quickly as nonsense he went to lift the knocker but a cool wind from behind pushed against the door and it creaked open slightly. He looked to his pink haired companion with his usual devilish grin, he couldn't really make out her expression, a mix of adventure spirit and fear, interesting to say the least "Well... ladies first...?" He chuckled audibly.
Stranger in town: Closed RP for tumblumblumblweed
"Ugh!" Kankuro exclaimed, he hated the neverending trek back to Suna from the hidden leaf village, it was always the same and always so boring. Trees, then sand, that's about it. It was always near the end that it got bearable, when he could see the hidden sand off in the distance and he knew he was almost home Huh...? he saw something, or more someone, treking through the sand, he didn't recognize them at all. As he got closer he could make out that he was male "Hey stranger, what brings you to the hidden sand?" he said warmly, hoping to gauge whether this man was a threat...

The endless night...
Slam down. Hit the floor. Stay low. Stay Hidden. Kankuro knew he'd been out too long but he didn't realize he'd trop his torch into a river and now camp was over a mile away and he wasn't protected from them. Creepers were everywhere, one for every fallen soul, the darkness wasn't safe anymore, not from them, for they were the night, and only the light kept them at bay.
It'd been three years since the eternal night had set in, anywhere that wasn't lit up like a Christmas tree was ravaged, thousands were massacred in a few hours, towns were destroyed and civilizations were lost. The great hidden villages were okay, for a while, it was the hidden sand that went first, they'd become insular and soon ran out of energy to keep the lights on and without a forest around they couldn't send anyone out to get help. It was sheer dumb luck that meant Kankuro was in the leaf at the time, and that's where he'd stayed, helping in any way he could.Â
That's what he was doing out there, he'd gone to look for wood, without any light around the trees were dying off in droves so that wasn't difficult, it was finding logs big enough that was the challenge but when he went down to the lake for a drink he was tempting fate and now he was crawling for his life, hoping the dark clothes gave him some camouflage. He could see them, shifting through the darkness, even in the pitch black of the forest the cast a shadow, there were at least three within a few feet of him now. He crept, silently as he could, while they couldn't really see him they would still hear him if he- Crack!Â
They'd pinpointed him in a moment and he'd taken off as fast as he could, cursing between breaths, this was it and he knew it. He'd always wondered if Temari and Gaara had gone down the same way, guess he could ask them now. But wait, off in the distance he saw it. Light. In a cave. Faint but unmistakable. He made a beeline for the cave, hearing the creepers close on his trail one managed to claw his shoulder, the wound was deep but adrenaline kept the pain at bay. But then there was another, and another, they were tearing him apart and he knew it.
The last few feet were torture but he made it, some safety at last. He fell to the ground, the injuries he'd sustained were finally taking effect, he was bleeding out, fast. He had just enough energy to look up and through blurred vision he could make out that uniquely ginger hair he used to know so well.
"Sh-Shione...?" he managed to force out before fainting.

In this alternate universe the ninja world was plunged into eternal night, a night filled with vicious creatures called "Creepers" while the world hasn't actually ended, it's like it has for all those who are left. During a scouting mission for the leaf (Kankuro's surrogate home) he loses his only light source, is viciously attacked and has to take refuge in a cave wherein he finds an old friend. She nurses him back to health and the story continues from there... I'll leave it to your imagination :PÂ
Thereâs always that particular roleplay partner that you are simply glad to see, that you always squeal when he or she is on and your threads are always special. And it seems that you have a bond OOC. If the one Iâm talking about reads it, I just want to say: âThank you for being so special to me, and for my muse.â

"So..." he began, looking the dilapidated structure over "Whaddya think?"Â
graceful-magma-princess started following you...
Kankuro paced gingerly to the waterside and sat near the kage, in one of the sunnier spots, it was in the waning days of summer that the shadows felt particularly cold and this was no exception. He rolled up the legs of his trousers and dipped his feet in the cool water, it was particularly relaxing to watch the slowly rippling waters after a long day as most of his were these days. âYeah, well not many people know about itâ he motioned around ââatâs one of the reasons why itâs so emptyâ he smiled, not a fan for crowds, especially if they included small children, he appreciated that the sanctity of this area was mostly undisturbed by the rest of the world âHave you got anywhere like this in Kirigakure, then?â he inquired, wondering if places of beauty like this were a common occurrence in the hidden villages, not that heâd noticed any on his travels with the KazekageâŠ
"I have a few secret lakes and ponds that I alone am aware of⊠and they are my sanctuary from the daily stress of my job. I love my people and also Kirigakure as a whole but the work that comes with the title of Mizukage is not very appealing. I would die for my people but sometimes the paperwork and endless amounts of serious conversation about tragedies are upsetting. I also donât like the elders since they abuse their power, out of habit now that Yagura-san is deceased. Before he was manipulated, he was truly an honorable yet ruthless jinchuuriki." Mei looked over at Kankuro. "I apologize for my rantings. It was not my intent to discuss such strong opinions when I had no business doing so."
"Sounds very... serene" he replied, enjoying her neigh poetic description and then a Kage's plight that reminded him very much of what his brother had to go through "Yes, Gaara has told me about what a tough role it is... It must be nice to have a place to escape from it all, in spite of the love for your people, everyone needs a break every now and again" he smiled "Did you know Yagura-san before his downfall then?" he smiled to the kage "It's fine, Mizukage-sama" he waved his feet into the water "We all need to have a rant every now and again and it's nice if there's someone around to hear it..." and he was telling the truth, for all his bad and somewhat unfriendly features, Kankuro was quite a good listener when he wanted to be...
"Hi! Wanna play with Tobi?"
//Well who in the world doesnât wanna play with a toy tobi?
"wait a sec⊠isnât that the guy who atta-!"
//SHUT UP KANKURO PEOPLE ARE TALKING TO US! >.<Â
"But⊠itâs a dollâŠ?"
//PLUSHIE! Be considerate now mister! Now say helloâŠ
"Uhh⊠Hi thereâŠ"
"Hi! Hey! You make puppets right?? Did you make Sasori?? Huh? Huh?" The little Plush got excited.
"WellâŠ" he begun, letting his guard down slightly, this tiny thing may look like the man that attacked the kage summit but he wasnât in any position to cause harm, not at the moment at least "No, I didnât, yaâsee, Sasoriâs a very special little puppet, like no other reallyâŠ" his words seemed so fanciful to the serious sand-nin but he would endure, it seemed the little fabric ninja brought that out of himâŠ
"Tobi wonders⊠IS HE A ROBOT?" By special, he figured that must be the case. Unless he was magical. "Hey! Are you a puppet too?" He tilted his head, "Tobi is a plushie!"
"A robot? Errr.... Â not so much" he chuckled, it was like talking to a small child "He's a wooden puppet controlled by chakra" he smiled "A bit like how a robot runs on electricity..." He chuckled to the small toy "No, I'm a person, I just make and use puppets... So a plushie, eh?" he wondered for a moment "and what would that be?"
Sand Brothers
The elder nin grinned devilishly seeing his bad influence take effect, after that the younger brotherâs hesitance didnât really faze him âWellâŠâ he began again âYouâve never drunk beforeâŠâ he chuckled âAnd when was the last time youâd left the house without your sand gourd?â his grin failed to subside as he stood up from his position against the bar âBesides⊠I thought you were interested in trying new things?â
He blinked a few times, gaze fixed on Kankuro. âI am trying new things! I am doing exactly what you want me to do!â He sounded just a little desperate right now - his words had been the truth, he had only realized it as they were out. âWhy not take it slow and save up dancing for another time?â Gaara was searching for excuses now and he was completely aware of that.
"Temari will murder you when she finds out about this!"
He'd never seen Gaara get so defensive before, although it was an evening of firsts "Well I won't force you to do anything you don't wanna... not too often at least" he chuckled "But, little brother, if Temari's gonna kill me" which if course was in no doubt "Then you'd better make my last night on earth a good one!" he bellowed over the quickly rising volume of the band getting into their stride.
"'Loha, Kankuro!" The ginger-haired kunoichi beamed a smile. "Been a while has it?"
"Hello?" The suna-nin replied with ambiguity "Sorry, do I know you?" his embarrassment was clearly evident in his body languageâŠÂ
Hotdoggers? He considered her strange phrasing again and dismissed it, the question had evidently caused her a great deal of thought and he listened intently.Â
WoahâŠÂ Heâd never heard someone speak so poetically about being a ninja before, it was really quite moving Sheâs obviously been through a lot⊠he pondered listening on but just like that, it was over, her sunny demeanor returned, as if the deep emotional person had just been swallowed back up.
"WellâŠ" he stuttered trying to formulate his words "That is indeed a very good reasonâŠ" and he meant it, sheâd spoken so eloquently and so articulately he actually started to understand how she could be so optimistic about it all, it was truly remarkable. So much so that he actually found himself smiling as they entered the academy he directed her down a hallway "Theyâre just down here, if you wanna talk to them" he smiledâŠ
⊠Her smile stopped short, an odd feeling in her stomach grew. What is this? She returned the smile sincerely; her cheeks tainted a light hue of red. She shrugged her shoulders and parted her lips to speak. âThis was really kickinâ. Iâll catch you later after I talk with the grommets?â
Admittedly, Kankuro really appreciated the time that Shione was with the children, it was time he put to good use, marking the studentâs work, tinkering with the blueprints of a new design.
For the mostpart of the session he sat behind the students and observed, and much to his surprise, they seemed to be eating out of her palm, it was really very impressive and the jonin couldnât help but look up from his work and watch the proceedings. It was exactly how he expected, her vibrancy shone through and reached the children in a way heâd never been able to We definitely need instructors like this to stick aroundâŠÂ
The session came to a close and with the ringing of a distant bell the children went out to lunch, the elder jonin packed up his files into his daytime satchel and meandered to where the class had been gathered.
"Pretty impressive stuffâŠ" he beganâŠ
She placed her hands on her waist, eyeing the last children to leave for lunch. âDidnât think youâd sit and watch, though.â Shione smiled gave a small wave goodbye to the students, as they waved theirs rather excitedly. 'Thank you, sensei!', she heard from the distance. Seeing that all the students left, her smile softened and shifted her full attention to the sand-nin.
"With the war cominâ up, I noticed the grommets from other villages scared. Gave up the way of the ninja." The jonins started to walk out of the academy building. "The smaller villages⊠I got pounded by their situation. It was harder to talk to them. Sunaâs lucky that the students are still here. All the more in Konoha." The sun was blinding, and the sand was too hot for any villager to be out. But there they trotted on, unfazed by the heat.
She breathed in the hot, humid air, noticing her slight hunger. âWhereâs a good place to hang loose? I got a couple of hours to spare before I leave for Anshou,â she asked.
"Meh, I had some work to do and I needed somewhere to sit, hope I didnât distract you too much" he shrugged, listening to his guest continue, she seemed so sad to see the morale hit that the kids of the ninja world had taken, it seemed to affect her pretty badly "Yeah, I guess itâs harder in some places than others, weâre lucky here, the kids have got some resolve, Iâll give âem that" he replied, a slight twinge of pride in his tone but he shrugged it off. Growing up in the intense summers of suna, Kankuro was hardly fazed by the scorching heat and dazzling light "To hang loose, eh?" he echoed, once again taken aback by her strange dialect "Well⊠depends what youâre in the mood for, I guessâŠ" he tried to think of what the sand village had going for it, a task much easier said than done "Well, we got a bunch of restaurants if youâre hungry, thereâs the swimming reservoir if you wanna cool off, and a couple other things⊠whatâre you up for?"
âA swimming reservoir! Gnarly!â She stopped short from her obvious excitement. âAâ âole, kala mai, I didnât know you had a place to beat the heat.â Noticing the slight confusion in the sand-ninâs eyes every moment she mentions any slang words, she continued, âKala mai- I am sorry. I didnât mean to confuse. We have a dialect back in our homeland, our village,â a light blush spreaded across her cheeks, her slight awkwardness evident.
It had been a while since she last took a dip in the water. Everything was too busy lately, and knowing she couldnât have the time to enjoy the moment she returns to her village, she couldnât be more than happy to be one with her chakra element.
âYou swim, Kankuro?â she askedâŠ
"Yeah, about now it should be pretty empty, everyone's out to lunch so if you wanna go now's the time" the sand-nin thought she'd choose that option, while she was talking to the class he did some reading up on the hidden reef, living by the water all her life it made sense that she'd want to return. "Hehe it's fine," he replied, regarding the girl's regional tongue "We get travelers through here often, they all speak differently, I'll get used to it" he chuckled.Â
"Swim?" he echoed "Of course I do, what kind of ninja would I be if I didn't" he directed her down a path between some houses towards the reservoir "Yeah, it's where my dad took me to teach me to swim, one of the few times he took me and Temari anywhere, c'mon it's this way" he grinned, turning again...
