they could’ve had way more fun with the eddie uber driver thing post return to la if everything else didn’t happen. the whole team are on a night out and when it’s time to leave buck is like i think i’ll just book an uber home and gets his phone out smiling to himself. two minutes later eddie’s phone goes off and it’s a venmo notification from buck for $5 and a note with his address on and an obnoxious smiley face :))))). eddie’s just like get in the damn car. he drives buck to bedford street though. obviously.

inspired by this post, but hen and chim call each other best friend with so much love and fondness. 'you're the best friend i've ever had, chim, and i can't imagine my life without you.' and it's so interesting because buddie is the complete opposite. they usually only refer to each other as best friend when something negative is happening or if they feel like they are lying to one another

1. buck during the tsunami worrying how he was going to tell his best friend that he lost his son

2. buck talking about maiming his best friend, something he did due to misguided feelings

3. buck spiraling out because he lied to his best friend

4. eddie confessing to a priest that HE lied to his best friend

5 + 6. buck being sad that his best friend is in texas and then being in deep denial when maddie brings up the fact he might be in love with his best friend

the tonal shift between henchim and buddie is insane to me. we have chimney saying things like, 'you are my best friend. my very opinionated, sometimes wrong best friend. you were trying to protect me, and i love you for that.' versus buck and eddie who almost hide behind the term best friend? also the fact that we had only heard buck call eddie his best friend ONCE prior to buck's bi arc.

it's especially telling that the only time eddie says it, it is in a confessional after a noticeable pause. they don't use the term best friend like it is something to be celebrated a lá henchim. they use it like it isn't the right title, but it's all they have.

realized that hen and chim have each said 'you're my best friend' to each other multiple times. it is something that comes easy to them. but every single time buck or eddie refer to each other as best friend, they are talking to other people. they have never once said it to the other....

aside from saying it to tommy before their first kiss, buck has only said it when talking to maddie. and eddie has only said it to a priest. it's almost like they can use the term best friend when they felt guilt or if they are in denial.

for the tsunami, the maiming, the lying... they both felt guilt. we only see this change when eddie leaves for texas. buck goes from guilt to denial.
