The hatred between Andrew and Neil was impossible to put into words. At first, it was genuine distrust—the feeling that a traitor had wormed his way into the lives of the people you cared about, someone who could stab you in the back at any moment.

He had to be tested.

In the end, it happened with the help of the very person they had suspected. The game of Truth could almost be called a way to verify the past of someone whose present was built on lies.

The hatred wasn't the same anymore. The distrust had faded.

Andrew saw Neil as his equal—someone who didn't disgust him, only irritated him with his stupid habits.

His promise to protect Neil wasn't like the promises he made to anyone else. It wasn't born out of affection; it was simply the necessity of keeping that person close. Minyard wasn't used to the idea that someone could stay without a deal.

For both of them, it was the first time.

I think Jean Moreau is exactly like this in The Sunshine Court. Not completely broken, even if people try to force him into a box. You can still feel that inner strength in him, which is why he doesn’t seem truly “caged.” At least, that’s how I see him
