Armida, ca.1650 by Francesco Montelatici, known as Cecco Bravo (Italian, 1607--1661)
Natalie Díaz, from “I, Minotaur”, Postcolonial Love Poem
the quietude of things, tathev simonyan
Hopefully I die tomorrow so I can return to the dirt I came from
My body can finally rest
I can decompose into my soft surroundings
The sharp grains of sand will embed themselves into my soft flesh
And as I am an ethereal thing, I burn as I return to the earth
My rotting body, merging with its surroundings, reflects and reverberates
Off the specks of now glass that burrow into my corpse
And in the dark that is found in depth
My body turns into a starry sky
I am finally the celestial body of light that I so admired
In death my body may return to its carbon origins, and my soul may be painted upon the deep
I may finally be rested and beautiful
All that I could not be in life
We must look on the slim silver lining in life in our peripherals.
Because the darkness which consumes most of what we see
Is unbearable to face.
We must focus on the tiniest glimpses of hope,
It’s all we truly have.
there comes a day…

"Why are you here?" Jayce's voice echoed slightly in the empty lab, head in his hands as his notes, seven different notebooks, Viktor observed, lay scattered across the desk. "I thought you gave up on the academy," he hesitated, turning his head away before adding, so quietly Viktor barely heard, "gave up on me."
Viktor looked at him intently, swallowing before responding coolly, "If you knew me at all, you would know I never give up on anything. You said it yourself, no? There isn't a person alive more stubborn than me."
Jayce didn't look up, shaking his head slightly. Viktor continued.
"Heimerdinger told me you were having trouble with something you were working on, but he wouldn't tell me anything else so, I figured I would come see myself."
Jayce finally looked at him, scoffing as he spit out angrily, "So you've come to watch me fail, again."
Viktor made a soft humming sound, thinking.
"No," he finally said, cane tapping on the marble floor as he moved closer, one hand leaning against the desk where Jayce sat. Their gaze locked, a distinct energy in the air, reflecting off Jayce's eyes and lighting them like a flame.
"I am here to help you succeed."
Sinner
This feels like something that crawls in my head and burrows into my stomach when I wake up before I’m ready and can’t fall back asleep.
