So I might sound stupid but maybe I missed something.
If El and Hopper are in the Upside Down, how are they able to infiltrate the military area and meet Dr. Kay? I get that Upside Down would have a military encampment as it's Hawkins' mirror, but why are there people there?
Wasn't Dr. Kay, minutes ago, rounding up kids in real Hawkins? How did she and other researchers/soldiers reach Upside Down?
Maomao: ugh why does Jinshi insist on pursuing me I don't even like him
Also Maomao: this person can't even know I'm actually surprised, Jinshi would have understood my slightly furrowed brow. Ugh this other guy is too slow at understanding where I'm going with my investigations, Jinshi would get it faster. This girl is so beautiful, but not as beautiful as Jinshi.
This may have been the subject of so many essays already, but I really, really like how subtle Maomao's feelings are in the Light Novel.
She denies her own capacity for love, but she becomes her own enemy as her actions and thoughts often betray her feelings.
This becomes evident in her own monologue with Yao and En'en vs her anger with Jinshi over his self-branding:
Plus that instant reaction from her when he insisted on doing more self-harm:
Although there is mention in Vol. 12 of how he brings her comfort and/or reassurance, it's also quite amusing how often she'd done things that otherwise she would never do just because of him. There is that one time she gave a piece of her mind in Volume 7, and it surprised her just how many words were coming out of her mouth (lol). There's also that time when she examined Jinshi despite the Emperor's raging anger:
As well as that moment after "rejuvenating" him, when she kissed him on the cheek and sang a children's hymn (which mystified her after):
There is also the constant worry about his health, even when she herself is exhausted:
It's also quite funny how often Jinshi pops up in Maomao's thoughts—he's literally living in her mind. Like she was looking at paintings of beautiful women, a random thought of Jinshi flitted right in. Or when she was preparing for an operation, the passing thought of Jinshi's own medical misadventures slipped through her mind. The instances are too many to cite lol.
These are of course just little moments, but they paint the picture that the feelings are there and it grew—despite her insistence to the contrary.
Been watching The Apothecary Diaries and love Maomao!! I wanted to draw her with the flower from the opening, the creeping woodsorrel.
A youtube comment by user Zenedhyr7612 explained that her nickname MaoMao is a reference to this flower which opens its petals during night, and closes them during the day. Very epic of her :-)
Where can I read "Kusuriya no Hitorigoto" Light Novel?
Since a lot of you have been asking this question lately, here is everything you need to know in brief...
What is a Web Novel (WN) and Light Novel (LN)?
A WN is basically weekly chapters released by the main author on a weekly basis. You can find it on a lot of Japanese sites. Some amazing people also translate them on a regular basis and post those chapters. LN is a compilation of WN chapters. A number of Chapters from the WN are taken, translated, properly rewritten and edited to publish a final LN. It has a few illustrations as well like the one you can see below...
Manga, Light Novel and Anime
Basically, the LN is taken and illustrated by an artist and we call it a manga. And when the manga has reached a certain number of Chapters, and gained a lot of popularity, it is converted into an anime. So that's the flow of things. We have
WN -> LN -> Manga -> Anime
I think that clears up a lot of misunderstandings. Firstly, the WN is published on a weekly basis, some chapters from WN are taken and translated properly to make a LN. The LN is illustrated by an artist to make the manga and the manga is generally adapted to make the anime.
In case of 'Kusuriya no Hitorigoto' or 'The Apothecary Diaries', the anime is doing a great job of adapting the overall story because not only are they properly animating every scene from the manga but also adding their own scenes from the LN.
Where can I read WN, LN and Manga?
WNs are the hardest to find, since they are released on a weekly basis by the Japanese author. They are written in Japanese and a few fans translate them for everyone. You can find it here...
By Hyuuga Natsu LICENCED BY J-NOVEL CLUB She was captured by hunters for palace ladies for the inner palace when she went out to gather medi
(They have translated chapters of vol 10, 11 and 12)
The LN has reached until vol 9 and vol 10 is scheduled to release in Jan 2024. Currently, there is no source where you can find it for free (not that I know of, because even I have purchased the e book from Amazon) though the first few pages are available to read for free! So you can check them out!
Where did the Anime, Manga left off?
The Manga has reached ch 68. If you want to start reading the light novel from where the manga left off, you can start reading from vol 4, chapter 4.
The Anime has released ep 12 and it has covered manga material till ch 20, if you want to read manga after finishing the anime.
If you have any other questions regarding the LN, WN, Anime or Manga, feel free to ask!

You know what? If they would have taken half of the plotlines in S3 and moved them to be worked on in S4 I think S3 would have been better and we could have had S4 be a full season
Unlock my boss is underrated. I know it isn't the most exciting drama out there.
Sure we don't have characters tipping between the white or black side, or a question about ethics where both sides are right, but it is still fun.
There's a clear demarcation of what is wrong and right and who's on which side. No character surprises us by changing sides.
But there are good plot twists that change how the protagonists will have to handle the situation.
Have seen much worse dramas get more traction. And I also appreciate it's a light drama compared to all the gory and mentally exhausting stuff that has become more common in kdramas.
I have some gripes about AOS 2. For the sake of clarity, Naksu in part 1 will be Naksu 1 and Naksu in part 2 will be Naksu 2.
Naksu 1 & 2 felt so different - Naksu 1 was clever, scheming and put herself first. Sure as the story progressed, she found people who she loved and liked but was always cunning. Naksu 2, on the other hand, seemed more of a strong willed yet innocent first love kind of female protagonist you'd see in kdramas.
Naksu 2 was pouting and getting her feelings hurt most of the time - I can try and justify it by saying that maybe that's how Cho Yeong would have grown up to be had she not been taken in by Jinmu. But even when she gets her memories back, we get to see a tame version of her. Sure, she would feel guilty about her hand in Jang UK's condition but as a viewer when I know that the drama is coming to an end, I don't have time for noble idiocy of not telling him that she has recovered.
Where's her anger and hatred for Jimmu? How's the conclusion for their tale just her giving him an ice stone to rot?
Naksu 2 was so underutilised in part 2. She's the protagonist, yet we only get to see her in action twice - one of them when she's not aware of her actions. All viewers wanted to see her and UK together in action but no. We get to see her sappy, die and come back to life.
Why are we seeing child Bu Yeon? We have already seen grown up Bu yeon's soup several times in AOS 1. It did not make sense for child Bu Yeon soul to appear now to scheme with Jang Uk.
I still don't get what is Master Lee's basis of deciding which info he wants to disclose to whom and when he wants to take action. He seems to do whatever is convenient for the plot. Same goes for Park Jin - he is a bit stupid when it comes to emotions, sure, fine. But how can the same person who gives veiled threats and understand veiled insults from Jinmu + Unanimous Assembly not be able to understand word plays when talking to Heo Yeom and Maid servant Kim? Also I still can't get over the fact that he forgot Naksu's face. Another character that seems to be socially inadept whenever the script needs him to be.
Darling, listen to me.I made my choice. Duty to my country over love. It’s what I’ve always done, it seems. It was drummed into me my whole life. Now I’ve lost the only man I ever really loved. Mia, I want you to make your choices as a woman. Don’t make the same mistakes I did.Make your own mistakes. There’ll be plenty of them, believe me. Now, you can go back into that church and get married, or you can walk away. Whatever choice you make, Iet it come from your heart.
The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004) dir. Garry Marshall
Is Kim Do ju going to die? Or is Park Jin going to die? Why are they talking about not doubting each other's love even they don't choose to save the other?
