Not enough people talk about how obvious it was that Truth was controlling Al's body.

Like, aside from how much sense it makes, along with the sole fact that we've been shown this information during the few occasions we saw Al's body prior to his soul returning, Al's body doesn't quite seem like Al.

His body still speaks like Al, still makes faces like Al and, to some extent, even behaves like Al:

But it's not until Al is finally back in his body that we get this look from him, and we've never seen such an intense look on him before:

Seeing this expression of determination makes it all the more obvious that Al is back in his body because he's able to express how ready he is to get out of this white void and he's so adamant that Ed is going to bring him back home.

Even this expression he wears when Ed finally returns for him feels more real, more alive, than anything we've seen before this point:

Y'know, when I first watched Conqueror of Shamballa, I was fr sitting there watching Noah's introduction scene and thinking, "Wow, Ed sure is flustered around these women, did life in Germany rewire his brain, or are Romani women so powerful that not even two autistic men can resist their charms?"

But then I rewatched it and remembered that, not only are Ed and Alfons surrounded like they're prey, but literally every single one of the women (excluding Noah) were fr staring down the boys, and they're staring hard, they're all smiles and leaning forward too, like, c'mon:

So yeah I can't blame them for giggling and blushing like a couple of school girls lol

anyway 03 edward elric my beloved blorbo wish people appreciated your stellar character arc and excellent scenes where you admit you have racial biases and that you contribute to war and racism in your chasing of a dream i love how many scenes you get put in your place and where your flaws are actual flaws i love how much you change over the course of the series in a believable way because your entire belief system and worldview gets deconstructed i love how you were written so much more like a kid in over his head i love your cute little outfit in cos and that you stay a short king with prosthetics and fuck everyone who ever criticized you for being too emotional because you were a deconstruction of the typical shounen protagonist according to the writers where you were never meant to be (just) a badass cool awesome role model but someone very human and relatable and i love how the english dub writers specifically altered your dialogue to be more relevant to american views in 2003 to the war in iraq and you had some of the rawest realest fucking lines uttered in the franchise

I glossed over this every time I saw it since it didn't seem at all like a significant detail (and it's really not), but I gave it some thought and belatedly realized there's a legitimate reason we're being shown this empty desk.

So I have to ask: is this supposed to be Edward's desk😭?

Like, it makes sense for it to be considering how it's disconnected from the other desks and clearly unused enough for Mustang to decorate it with a vase of flowers. Not to mention how the camera shifts to focus on the desk while the other members start talking about Ed, and then cuts to him in the dorm room seconds later.
