just found out that accidentally in love by counting crows was literally made for shrek. they didnt just choose it. it didnt exist before. they asked counting crows to make a song for shrek 2 and thats how we got one of the best songs ever made. insane.

@spaceoperetta @aconstantode omg I love that this is a consistent theme. I grew up with my moms cassette tape (!!!) of the Canadian production and one of those souvenir books with production photos. And I’d listen to it and stare at the photos like this 👁️👁️ with no real context. I was obsessed with the movie at 14 and didn’t get why my mom didn’t like it. When it was Her Thing. LMAO. Then I realized.
Despite this I felt a little fond when we rewatched it last night! It’d been years and I expected it to be far worse. Obviously it goes sexy instead of scary, has some silly action sequences, and the consistent movie issue of hiring actors who can’t sing (not u Emmy) but it’s pretty to look at and it itches my brain. Can’t help it.

Did anyone ever like attempt to document and compile the variations of Barney the dinosaur murder ballads across the elementary school system in the early 2000s. Like legit it has always fascinated me as a phenomena and I would love to know if there were like traceable regional variations or what.
Looking at the tags so far I’m kind of fascinated by how much the ‘I Love You’ parodies vary in their phrasing/murder weapons but the ‘Joy to the World’ ones are nearly identical
here is my collection of barney murder songs as they appeared in the notes and comments of this post at about 4 pm pacific 7/25, somewhat arbitrarily color coded to show similar memes. it appears that "baseball bat and 2x4" is the mode configuration but there is so much variation that that exact phrasing only makes up a small part of the set. if i knew more about statistical modeling i would turn this into some kind of data tree that shows which phrases are most likely to follow other phrases.

Sorry this is an incredibly niche complaint but if you’re going to release Welcome Back Frank and NOT ONLY not use Bradstreet’s iconic cover, but actually use a cover from ANOTHER COMIC ALTOGETHER (Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe) instead… what was the thought process ?
