This is true of the manga, but I love how the anime accentuates the absolute physical trust the apprentices have with Qifrey. Specifically with Agott, the way she is so ready when Qifrey says “hang on tight, I need my hands free” to cling to him a mile into the sky, and then in the latest episode, how, as soon as she impacts Qifrey while flying to him, she makes no move to save herself, she just curls into him and trusts that he will keep them from falling.

And I think it works as a signal to the audience, to subtly go “hey, I know we don’t trust Qifrey right now, he’s being shady, but we can always trust him to protect the physical wellbeing of his kids. Remember that.” Idk man maybe I’m getting too attached to a teeny detail but aaaaaaghhhh that’s her dad.

Hot take if songs like popipo came out today the fandom would immediately deem them as "slop" and harass the creator of the song and people who liked it, whereas if songs like mesmerizer came out during the late 2000s/early 2010s during vocaloids hayday people would be calling those songs "flawless masterpieces" 😒

Yeah no yeah honestly I'm not sure we can really say the early 2010s were Vocaloid's Hayday anymore, per se. Numerically and culturally, Vocaloid/Vocal Synth now is pretty solidly bigger than it's ever been before! Like, Miku has a movie. Miku is in FORTNITE. Miku had a crossover event with Pokémon, the biggest multimedia franchise in the world!

Part of that is obviously because of iconic old songs like Popipo laying the groundwork, but it's ALSO because of the high production quality and artistic vision of modern songs (and animations) like Mesmerizer.

There's definitely nothing WRONG with early Vocaloid music (in fact a lot of my favorite vocaloid songs are from that era) but like, we shouldn't deny how far Vocaloid has come since then. Production value has gone up, more people are being exposed to the fandom than ever before, new voicebanks, synth software, and producers are gaining traction, and really, by all measures, it's just all-around a SUPER exciting time to be a vocal synth fan. It's really unfortunate to see some fans dismissing so many exciting songs and developments as "slop" just because it's different from what it used to be.

Early era Vocaloid has an immortal charm to it (I could listen to Melt and Triple Baka on loop for weeks) but the Vocaloid community has always been and is always going to be constantly changing and evolving as long as it exists and ultimately I think that's a good thing.
