The sex of a pokemon, like the sex of a human, isnât entirely a binary thing. A fairly well-known example is demonstrated by the Salandit line: in the absence of a Salazzle or a female Salandit who is close to evolutionary maturity, a male Salandit may end up transitioning and evolving to take its place. Lesser known but just as present are intersex pokemon, which can physically manifest in many ways, but is most striking in pokemon such as Meowstic, which have very distinctive sexual dimorphism.
Recently, a fully-evolved intersex member of the Nidoran family hit the news after a smashing victory in the Pokeathlon. While this pokemon does not officially have a pokedex entry of its own (and has brought up the age-old debate as to whether or not the Nidoran lines should be condensed and considered one sexually-dimorphic species), the internet seems to have decided on calling this pokemon Nidoreign, and its pre-evolution seems to be known as either Nidorine or Nidorin, depending on who you ask.
