Me: Boy I sure hope I'm not overstepping by talking about being a sadist and wanting to put Simon on my torture rack.
Markiplier:
earth is such a wonderful and beautiful planet. the range of life and the range of environments. it is just such a feat that it exists in the first place & supports so many different plants and animals. ough
i love you characters that use it/its pronouns
i love you real life people that use it/its pronouns
the horrors persist but so do books, art, hot chocolate, winter nights, the moon, the sea, the stars, sunsets, literature, libraries, cats, flowers, stories, love and the wistful feeling you get when you finally return home
the unimaginable power of saying "huh, guess that's not for me" and moving on with your life
Man. Maybe I should. Maybe I should make my first post.
I hope everyone likes this. My first post, that is. This being my first post.
Thinking of sending some cookies to Guam
Last year, I befriended a Catholic seminarian. We've gotten to be pretty decent friends. Seeing as he was staying in town for the summer and I wasn't, I entrusted him with caring for my plant.
He did a wonderful job, but as he was returning my plant to my custody, he explained "I watered her every other day, I gave her new dirt, moved her into the sunshine, prayed the rosary-"
"What?"
He looked at me, confused. "Isn't she a plant you pray with?"
"No," I said slowly. "She's a prayer plant. That's the... colloquial name of the plant."
Upon seeing his stricken face, I realized something went wrong. Turns out, this entire time, he's been including my plant in on his prayers and leaving her near icons.
Listen, totally cool. My plant becoming Catholic is a great deal for her not dying over the summer. But now I must navigate this interfaith household. Keep me in your thoughts.
Stuff kids on tumblr better relearn
1. You are responsible for your own media experience.Ā
2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.
3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.
4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, thatās fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.
5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.
6. Content creators are not your parents and owe you nothing, not even a breakdown on why their content isnāt problematic. You donāt get to demand a dissertation denouncing any and everything unhealthy in a piece you donāt like. Move on.
7. Tagging is a nicety but not an obligation. You can message people, politely, and ask them to tag things, and many people will, but understand that itās their blog and they arenāt obliged to say yes. Unfollow and block when you need to. Circling back to number 1, you are responsible for curating your own experience.
8. Donāt be a jerk. Remember at the end of the day, there are actual living, breathing people behind each screen name. Donāt say anything you wouldnāt say to someoneās face in real life.Ā
I cannot stress enough how important it is to remember this.
9. Respect others who set boundaries for themselves. Donāt create fake accounts to go around a block. Donāt harass someone who unfollows you. People do not owe you any explanation of why their boundaries are there but you DO owe them the decency of respecting them.
Me when I remember something I said ages ago that was wrong or my values no longer align with

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Shoutout to people in the notes also mentioning people learning the language, I should've mentioned that really, given that I've been stuck reading German picture books myself while learning German.
guy on a work call just accidentally said āhave a nice freak-endā instead of weekend and now i desperately want that to be the new meme. have a nice freakend everybody
