I’m a certified Korra STAN and the reason I am NOT in the “oh my god they did Korra so dirty how could they do this to her” camp is because, a big theme of every single Avatar story has been the current avatar having to deal with ashes the previous avatar left behind!! The avatar is a human with the responsibility of the world and all its nuances on their shoulders, it’s literally an impossible responsibility and task. And every single avatar mess has always been so layered and nuanced, I’m excited to see what happened, and what led to this!

I know this is a beaten to death topic, but the air of discourse around Korra as a character really bums me out. I think her arc, while a bit inconsistent at times, by the end of the series coalesces into one of the strongest in the franchise and touches on some really heavy and nuanced topics like ptsd, recovery, expectations, and self-worth in really meaningful and impactful ways.

People also like to harp on things like severing the ties to the Avatar's past selves and like yeah that's a fuck up but it's interesting both for her and the world. She's the first Avatar in thousands of years who can't rely on the knowledge of her past lives for guidance, that's gonna lead to a lot of mistakes and growth and the fact that Korra pushes on in spite of that takes a whole hell of a lot of strength and says so much about her character.

There's also talk and speculation of her character in Seven Havens and like idk I don't care to engage with that. We have a trailer and that's it don't jump to conclusions just wait for the show to air and judge from that. I dunno this is just a long-winded Korra appreciation post. I think she's great and gets a lot of undeserved hate

Imagine being the avatar that single handedly saved the world several times and brought back the whole air bender population from the brink of extinction and some cunt still has the nerve to say "the previous avatar let us down" Korra should have ended the world sooner

Idea: the whole end of the world had been building for decades in an analogy for climate change/radioactive pollution/spiritual Cold War, and Korra had been screaming about how stupid the world powers were and constantly stuck doing damage control, and instead of addressing it they kept building the seven havens and ignoring her and when things inevitably reached a boiling point instead of taking some goddamn accountability for their actions the leaders of the world went “obviously this is Korra’s fault!!!”

Loving all the people being like “ha, see! We told you Korra was bad and wrong and dumb and we were right! Vindication!” Which like, firstly, way to not recognise a fucking obvious misdirect when you see one. Secondly, even if Seven Havens did end up totally butchering Korra’s character by making her suddenly turn evil out of nowhere like you apparently want, that wouldn’t make you right, it would make the show bad.
