the biggest problem with the education system, is that it’s way too focused on grades instead of the principle of learning itself. because many of us love to learn. we just do not enjoy the pressure of constantly having to perform.

my book review for the song of achilles is finally up! the link to my blog is on my bio as always☺️ love this book to pieces🧡 . what have you all been up to lately? i’ve been busy stocking up for my online shop (launching tomorrow!!) and completing my assignments✨ with only five weeks of the semester left, there’s so much that needs to be done📖 (at Perth, Western Australia) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_aJeWGHtAd/?igshid=ix0878w0ddrc
30.03.2020 | it snowed today! i’m guessing that the hell in which we have found ourselves froze over (for me, perhaps, because i finally endeavoured to take up fitness) (i did not last long)

ig: herdrafts I’ve started reading the Aeneid some weeks ago, quite big and complex book, also fascinating and full of Homeric references. Latin isn’t an easy language and I can’t reading it nor understand it as I would so this Italian translation has been the most sensible choice. I’ve also got two more classics, sketching and watching old movies, and organizing my reviews this early morning; I didn’t get enough sleep since this week started but I feel great.
I’ve had a lot of different study places over the years, but I like my new home the most.
college study tips that actually help
put your phone on silent and put it across the room
listen to classical/soundtrack music without lyrics
make index cards for important vocab
wear pajamas
make diagrams and pictures. they don’t have to look pretty, as long as you understand it
make timelines for historical events
have a light snack
drink coffee or tea to keep you going
take a break every hour or so
have one pencil/black pen and one colored pen or highlighter. anything more will just distract you. the aesthetics aren’t important, your knowledge is
don’t be afraid to email/message your teacher or a classmate if you don’t understand something. the last thing you want to do is learn the incorrect information
know that sleep and health is more important than your grade. you cannot perform as well on a test if you are tired or sick. take care of yourself
it’s not a race. it’s not about who can learn something in the quickest time, it’s about learning
take a deep breath
prioritize your homework by how long it will take you and when it’s due
plan some you time in between studying and school
if you’re mentally exhausted, set a timer for 30 minutes and take a nap. any longer and you’ll wake up even more tired
don’t understand something? that’s perfectly fine, don’t stress over it. ask for help rather than complaining
have a goal in mind and write them down. say things like “i am getting an education so i can get the job of my dreams. the life that i want. the happiness that i deserve”
be thankful. it is a privilege that you get to go to school and get an education.
you got this.

+ make it look pretty note: this is only optional; different people have various ways of retaining information - if you feel like adding colour distracts you, don’t do it! also, if you’re rushing to finish notes at the last minute the night before the exam pls don’t do it omg only do it when/if you have time.

colour your notes! highlighting and adding colour to notes helps you retain information and remember things faster. use different colours throughout your notes to have more specific and easy-to-understand notes. [eg. use lighter colours like light blue for points you want to highlight and darker colours like purple for the main body] again, as mentioned earlier, if colourful notes aren’t your thing don’t do it!
while revising, read notes aloud. it helps you remember things easily, because it sounds like someone is explaining it to you. even better if you do it in a foreign accent tbh, that always works for me (i read notes aloud in an american accent sometimes). this method is most effective if you’re an auditory learner.
most importantly, find what works for you. there are so many note-taking methods out there; find a system that you feel is most effective/helpful based on the type of learner you are. if you feel like nothing you read online is helpful, create your own method of note-taking instead.

Now that work is officially shut down, I have a lot of time to review for the GRE and finish my Graduate school application.
Focusing on what I can control at the moment.
last week was definitely rough, to say the least. I’m grateful for letting myself ride out the emotions and after an exhausting night, I actually felt pretty refreshed this morning.
I’m trying to indulge in the little things I do have control over right now- how I like my coffee/tea in the mornings, how often I talk to my mom on the phone, how good I feel after eating foods that make me feel nourished, whether or not it’s a nice enough day to study outside for an hour or too. it all helps.
if quarantine has taught me anything, it’s how strong and brave I can be when faced with uncontrollable circumstances.
