Teenagers who feel like they are mature for their age: that is a totally valid feeling, but instead of dating adults, please date other teens who feel like they’re mature for their age. It’s possible you are more mature than your age and have a hard time connecting to your peers but a grown adult trying to date a teen is not mature or a good person and you will be much better off w someone your age who relates to how you feel, and I hope you find them.
bell hooks, Feminism is for Everybody
Congrats to john about feeling comfortable enough to tell everyone who he truly is. Brad and angelina are amazing parents.
"hirself"
Hir is a gender neutral pronoun. So hirself is the equivalent of himself/herself.
Can we take one moment to slow the fuck down about this? Shiloh did not announce shit. All the kid did was wear a suit. Brad Pitt told the story about Shiloh wanting to be called John when the kid was TWO. TWO. Anyone with kids can tell you how their kid wouldn’t answer to anything but Steve or Wanda or fucking Battle Bot 5000 for a week. She was literally imitating Peter Pan.
Angelina talked about Shiloh in an interview later (two years later, so Shiloh was four) that Shiloh preferred boys’ clothes and toys and that they embraced it, even if it surprised them. She also said that, and I quote, “…she wanted to be called ‘John’ for a while.’ That, to me, implies that such a point has passed.
Can we PLEASE stop slapping new pronouns, gender identifies, and names on a child because of said child being a child? The family has only ever referred to her by female pronouns and as Shiloh, and until such a point that they make an official statement or they shift toward a new name and/or set of pronouns, fucking STOP. It’s not being respectful in the least to assume shit off of some vague parental anecdotes made on talk show interviews by her mom and dad.
Stop trying to label her because she is gender nonconforming. Her suit does not make her a boy. Her haircut does not make her a boy. Her choice of activities or toys or whatever DOES NOT MAKE HER A BOY.
You should be proud of Shiloh for having the courage to be a gender nonconforming little girl and you should be proud of her parents for having the love and compassion to let her. If such a point comes that she decides that she would prefer to transition to being seen as a boy, then you should continue to be proud of her.
But you should also pray that her decision wasn’t influenced by bullshit assumptions and people’s stupid insistence to shoehorn a person into a category because of how he or she dresses.
She shouldn’t be pressured by people to ‘be a boy’ anymore than she should be pressured to ‘act like a lady.’ She needs to be allowed to be a girl in a suit.
sorry to be ignorant, but why is erika moen so disliked in the lgbt community (or just the lesbian community)? what did she do?
Well, there was of course, this LUG comic, which had several unsavory elements including her husband calling women at a Pride parade “dykes” and acting like they’re so scary to a poor straight man, the pair of them making rude remarks at a woman right in front of her and the woman’s reaction played for laughs, the contrast of “I love my boy” (for a straight relationship) vs “I love PUSSY” for a gay one, etc. Furthermore, LUG as a concept is kind of bullshit and the comic doesn’t really say “stop calling people LUGs and let everyone do what they want” but rather “LUGs exist but don’t call me one!”
Her most famous comic is Queer, which, again, ends with her and her husband at a strip club making rude remarks about a stripper in an ~empowering~ way, as well as playing into “mean dyke” stereotypes, plus a sort of labels are for soup cans kind of notion, which is just kind of irritating all around and implies that anyone who is not like her is less enlightened.
And then there’s this infamous comic, which fetishizes trans men, implicitly plays into stereotypes about trans men not being real men, and once again has the trans man’s reaction to being objectified played for laughs—that last one seems to be a pretty common theme with her. (As you can see on the page, she did apologize for it, but there you go).
There’s also this racism collage she did, of which I was able to find [1, 2] It seems she tried to purge the comic from the Internet which is why I couldn’t find the whole thing, but the gist is that she was raised racist and taught to fear black men and so she decided to make a collage of racist stereotypes because apparently that would be helpful or something. It does not seem that she apologized for this one, nor did she keep it around as she did the trans men comic.
Anyway, that’s why some people don’t like her. A lot of people do like her (for example, Buzzfeed LGBT) so I wouldn’t say she is universally despised by any means. Personally, I’m not a fan.
she also did a guest strip comic for penny arcade where she’s telling someone else’s kid about sex and it really struck a lot of people, myself include, as fucking creepy and gross.
Her ongoing sex toy comic is frequently disgusting and idk there’s just a lot of little things that make it obvious that she is super homophobic and transphobic e.g. She did a comic where she is explaining to a trans man what a clitoris is… Like she’s trying to be all inclusive and avant garde like “ah yes this’ll be so queer if I condescendingly explain it to a trans man and not a cis woman or man” but like obviously doesn’t know any trans men? bc probably 99% of hormonally transitioned trans men are going to be fully aware of their genital situation bc of the nature of transition… Also she has so many comics where she implies that she’s “queerer” than ppl in same gender relationships by virtue of being straight married to a straight cis dude. In sum she’s kind of the unholy avatar of every super homophobic bi woman in a straight relationship who talks over gay and lesbian ppl and bi ppl not in straight relationships
every single time a rapist is outed kinksters rush to defend them & their own kinks, because people maybe developing a negative view of BDSM is apparently the real tragedy here. Here is a tip: instead of defending your kinks and writing things like “yeah real rape is…
who wore it better
radical queers and conservatives: “gay people existing is wrong and unnatural”
i think this works best for me if i think of sesto as a butch lesbian instead of a man
i’m so fucking mad i seriously hate radfems theyre all white and decrepit too
Please stop joining in with white “feminists” who are keen on erasing the voices of WoC/GM women. We are here. We exist. We are all shades of black and brown and we have...
is it normal to feel more comfortable with trans men than trans women? I feel bad about it
no, i think that is more than fine. however, i do believe you need to watch yourself with that as well. there’s a difference between levels of comfort and being more comfortable with females rather than males (and your safety is priority, never let anyone tell you otherwise) and automatically being disgusted with /every trans women ever/ because you automatically relate them with being subhuman. there are many women, especially radfem women, that are heavily disgusted by trans women and say insulting, harmful, and terrible things about their bodies with absolutely no justification rooted in radical feminist ideology whatsoever. socialized transphobia (especially in relation to trans women) is certainly a thing. i don’t think you need to feel guilty or bad about anything but only you know the reasons why you are more comfortable with one category over the other, so trust your own judgment.
The fact that fellow bisexual women don't realize the passing privilege they get when dating another man is exhausting. I'm a teen bi girl dating a male, and I was always fed with "you can't have bi passing privilege, it's erasure!!" and it's like.. well, you can. You can have both. Your identity as being bisexual is gone, yes, but me and other male paired bi women have the privilege of holding hands with our partners and not getting stared at or possibly harassed. We hold the privilege of being
able to introduce our partner to our parents without the risk of them judging us, harassing us, kicking us out, and abusing us. Bisexual women paired with men really need to recognize the straight passing privilege they have as opposed to lesbians. Denying this is, imo, pretty hurtful since a lot of lesbian women would probably LOVE to take their partner home and not face abuse. Bi women denying that they experience that is just insulting.
I wish other bi women had your common sense TBH.
Take note bi girls and bi radfems.
i’ve always tried to be accountable for the amount of privilege i receive for having a male partner. i am granted public safety even if it is provided only under the guise that i appear straight. and it really is common sense, i encourage any bi women with male partners to really explore the social advantages they receive for their hetero relationship.
Monosexism is synonymous with bi/panphobia in many ways because it perpetuates the myth that a person can only truly be attracted to one gender.
Oh my god, for real? 2014’s almost over and we’re still riding the fucking monosexual bullshit train? Come on, we’re better than this.
"Monosexism is almost even more ingrained in the gay and lesbian community, fueled by anxieties around queer legitimacy."
Hey, maybe because lesbian women are sick of being treated like conquests and curiosities by bisexual and bicurious women? Sick of being looked at like a porn fantasy? Basing the concept of privilege of of who wants and doesn’t want to fuck or enter a relationship with you is faulty and almost just as gross as “lesbians not attracted to transwomen with penises are transphobic.”
"The concept of the “gold star gay” is another monosexist byproduct of binary ideals.”
How about we don’t talk about issues restricted to gay and lesbian folks — I’m sorry, “queer monosexuals” — that we know nothing about and have no place in?
"Although a queer person may pass as straight if they’re in a heterosexual relationship, straight privilege by definition doesn’t exist for them because a) they’re queer and b) they still have to deal with prejudiced assholes on all sides, and I’m pretty sure that cancels out any ephemeral benefits of temporarily passing."
Does this person have any concept of privilege? I’ve dated mostly men throughout my entire life which has limited the shit I’ve faced quite a lot, and I’d never undermine that. Yeah, I’ve had my sexuality fetishized, and yeah, I’ve gotten the “you’re one or the other speech,” but I’ve never been stared at, called slurs, threatened, or faced violence while out with men for being with a man.
"Bi/pansexual women may appear to be more widely accepted, but this tolerance stems from the same patronizing logic of monosexism. Women generally have more leeway in terms of sexual fluidity than men."
Leeway in sexual fluidity? You mean, constantly being fetishized as a woman who’s sexually attracted to other women? Having nasty-ass straight men all over the globe constantly jack off to your sexual preferences? And fuck’s sakes, you know part of this “leeway” is in that bisexual women, unlike lesbians, poor cruel monosexual lesbians, aren’t constantly trying to be “convinced” they actually do want to fuck men?
This article is a fucking mess. I’m out, bisexual tumblr. What a dumb, lesbophobic mess.
