If David Byrne was a puzzle piece.
Celebrating this little dude's first year with us today. We got off to a rough start and there were a lot of tears but I love this silly little Goose.
LUPITA NYONG'O 📷 Instagram
For some context missing from this post, these aren't just beautiful photos of Lupita posing with a basket of beautifully arranged fruit. There are 77 fruits of varying sizes in that basket, each representing one of her uterine fibroids.
She's been trying to raise awareness around uterine fibroids and the pain they cause, so stripping that context from these pictures seems wilder than usual. Sure you could go to her instagram to see more details, but how many people are gonna do that?
The MRI on her Instagram post is absolutely unbelievable.
Fibroids and endometriosis are absolute demons from hell, they wreck lives and steal hopes and ambitions and I wish them a very happy fuck off forever.
Putting the picture under a cut.
This. This is what she posted. My god.
Uterine fibroids are why I had a hysterectomy a few years ago. I joked that I had a fruit basket in there but nothing compared to this. I'm lucky that my symptoms were pretty mild considering how bad it was.
My go to comfort activities to deal with work and family stress this year have been (re)watching period dramas and jigsaw puzzles. The puzzles have been a substitute for wanting to get back into making things but having zero inspiration/motivation cause of all the stress. Now my house is filling up with puzzles because apparently my thrift luck is for shit except for puzzles?
Here's what I've watched:
The Gilded Age
Downton Abbey + all 3 movies
Sense & Sensibility (2007) - just as good as the Emma Thompson one IMO
Pride & Prejudice (1995)
Persausion (1995)
Persausion (2007)
Emma (2009) - the only period adaptation worth watching
Northhangar Abbey
Cranford - I didn't enjoy the book when i read it forever ago but the series was fine
Currently watching Lark Rise to Candleford (also an adaptation), which has actors from 4 of the things I've already watched. Also on my list is Middlemarch and the 2005 P&P.
u can be boiling alive in your mind for months and then on a random tuesday ur head gets so clear and life is worth living again and you're like damn what was all that about then
Not as many books in June. Mighty Real took awhile to get through. I wish it had been an oral history. Agnes Aubert was a nice change. I don't typically read fantasy but I enjoyed all the cat stuff.
This might be the shittiest thing my brain has ever done.
I suspect that interacting with a certain person in my life is causing my stress/anxiety levels to spike (thanks grief) so yesterday I paused notifications for them for 24 hours just to guarantee I'd get a break. It's unlikely they'd contact me but I wanted to be sure.
Cut to last night and my jerk ass brain deciding to have a dream about them getting mad and yelling at me cause they'd been trying to get in touch with me all day but I hadn't responded. And me having to explain and the person judging my life choices.
My brain gets stuck on things I've planned to do and I don't even question it. I've been trying to work on that since it leads to me stressing out about nothing. I'm proud that I've opted not to do 2 things I had planned on that could either be done by someone else (taking the trash out) or are just completely optional (making cookies).
We give Goose treats when we trim his nails cause he's such a wiggler about it. But now he thinks he should get treats when I cut my nails.
May books. Spent a lot of time reading with the sleep issues and bereavement leave. DCC and Murderbot are still great.
Another Rulette, with Josh, Anna, and Demi? Oh hell yes.
8 minutes in and it is already delightfully chaotic.
I haven't laughed so hard in ages. Brilliant. Perfect. No notes.
sound off in the tags please what are everyone's favourite songs about divorce / lost love / Old Friends / empty houses / grief / death / other such miseries thank you
I've loved music nearly as long as I can remember. My parents weren't really music people though. Growing up, my mom kept the radio on the oldies station (50s and 60s). She never seemed that aware of more modern music (80s and beyond). When I was in college, we were in the car and she lightly sang along to the Eddie Grant song "Electric Avenue" that was on the radio. I was surprised she even knew the song so it stuck with me from then on. After finding out she passed away, the first song that played on the radio was "Electric Avenue".
This little guy is so cute when he's asleep I can't take it.
when a song has a callback to earlier songs on the same album or even songs from a previous album. that’s the good shit right there
Big reading month since I had some plane time to get in a bunch of extra reading. I'm almost done with Dungeon Crawler Carl book 7. I enjoyed all of these books. Love By The Book was fantastic and probably one of my favorites this year. And Yesteryear was wild and great as well.
it's so crazy to me when someone doesn't have a favorite madonna song
ok gay people with no taste website do NOT let me down on this one
