After returning from that sea, we were all alone.

Just as if we had planned it, we did not contact each other. Through only the graffiti that we left in the streets, the brightly lit up gas station, the sounds of the piano that we could hear from the run-down building, we assumed each other’s existences. At these times, the afterimage of that night came back to life like a hallucination. Taehyung’s eyes that seemed as if they were dripping with flames, their gazes towards me as if they had heard something unbelievable, Namjoon’s hand that stopped Taehyung, and I who could not hold back and threw a punch at Taehyung.

After failing to find Taehyung who ran out, I returned to the seaside dorm and nobody was there. Broken glass cups, bloodstains that began to dry, and cookie crumbs reminded me of what had just happened a few hours ago. Amongst this, there was one photo lying [on the floor]. In this photo, we were all together and smiling with the sea as the background.

Today, I just passed by the front of the gas station as well. A day will come when we all meet again. A day will come when we are smiling together just as we were in the photo. The day that I will muster the courage to face my self completely will come. But now is not yet the time. Just like that day, today, a damp breeze blows as well. And in the next moment, as if it was a warning, my cellphone rang. The photo that I hung on the room mirror shook. On the screen, Hoseok’s name appearaed.

“Hyung, Jungkook was in a car accident on that night.”

Every time during those moments, the afterimages of that night returned to me like a hallucination. Taehyung’s pupils, that looked like flames were dripping from them, the gazes of those who looked like they just heard something they could not believe fixated on me, Namjoon’s hands that tried to stop Taehyung, the me who could not stand it and threw a punch at Taehyung. No one was left in the beachside house after trying to look for Taehyung, who had run away. The shattered glass cup, the bloodstain that started to cling, and the crumbs of the crushed snacks were the only things to prove of the incident that happened several hour ago. During that time, a photo had fallen. In that photo with the sea as the background and everyone posing, we were together and laughing. I passed by the gas station again today as well. One day there will come a time when we will meet again. A day will come when we will laugh just as we did in the photo. A day will come when I will gather the strength to face myself entirely. But right now, it wasn’t that day. Today a damp wind blew, just like that day. The next moment, my phone rang as if it was a warning. The picture I stuck on the rearview mirror shook. We only assumed the existance of each other from the graffiti on the bridge, the gas station lighting brightly, the piano sound from the old building. Every time like that, the afterimage of that night came back to haunt me like a phantom. Taehyung’s pupils that blazed with fire, all the eyes that looked at me as if hearing an unbelievable story, Namjoon’s hands that stopped Taehyung, and me who couldn’t endure and threw my fists towards Taehyung.

After Taehyung ran away, we couldn’t find him, no one stayed at the seaside dorm after returning. The broken glass cup, the bloodstain that was starting to get clotted, the crumbled snack pieces, they only reminded us of what happened few hours ago. A photo fell down then. It was the photo we took at the sea, smiling together.

I passed by the gas station today. One day we will meet again. One day we will smile together like we did in that photo. One day I will gather the courage to face myself. But now, it is not the time yet. The humid wind blew today, just like that day. And the next moment, my phone rang like a warning. The photo hanging on the mirror of my room was shaking. Hoseok’s name appeared on the screen.

“Hyung, Jungkook got into an accident that night.”
