Adam felt Bailey thrashing in the water beside him but had the good sense to swim away from the guy for fear of having them both pulled under. Luckily the woman’s guards jumped in and managed to pull them to the safety of the ship, though Adam was unaware that this was the ship that they’d been looking for since Wyatt had led them to believe that it was going to be some kind of cargo rig.
“I’m gonna get the hang of it.” He muttered to Bailey, trying to keep his distance for fear that Bailey might be irritated with him on account of almost drowning. “Thanks for the help.” He offered towards Bunny and her men.
Watching with bored eyes as her men hauled the strangers out of the water, Bunny wrinkled her nose in distaste at their soaking exteriors and nodded, shooing them in the direction of the door to the lower decks. “Sure, sure. Whatever, go and get yourselves dry and changed into the spare clothes we bought, I won’t have Wyatt chewing me out cause two of his break out buddies died due to their sheer stupidity.” her words were harsh, but her voice held a hint of concern, she would never admit this; but she did worry for all those she was supposedly rescuing from this joint..
She gave them adequate time to re dress themselves before entering the lower decks, quickly seeking them out before she leaned against a doorframe and stared the pair down with her cold gaze. “You’re the first ones to arrive, I was expecting Wyatt, honestly. Do you have any idea when the rest will arrive? We can’t stay here forever, people will get suspicious.”
Bailey nearly pounced on Adam the second he saw the man get plucked from the water, but managed to quash the impulse when he saw that they were surrounded. Even before he got thrown into Belmont for twelve years, his social skills left something to be desired, but at least his survival instincts were firmly intact. Those same instincts protested loudly at getting ushered into the depths of the ship, unwilling to be caged again when he’d just left another behind. The mention of Wyatt’s name lowered his hackles a bit, but not enough to keep him from shooting a glare at anyone who dared to get close.
The opulence of the boat was unexpected and overwhelming, though he supposed he shouldn’t be surprised when it came to Wyatt. Once below deck, Bailey changed out of his soaked clothes in record time and threw the whole wad at Adam. “Don’t do that again. I didn’t like it when you stuck us in a tree, and I definitely didn’t like it when you dropped us in the fucking o--” He abruptly cut himself off when he heard footsteps descend, turning to level a suspicious look at their rescuer. She looked like a teenager, and not at all like someone Wyatt would enlist for a prison breakout.
“Probably another twelve hours,” Bailey said slowly, trying to determine his chances of escape as someone who couldn’t swim. “Who’re you?”
