Hello! My name is Tobias. I've somehow survived the calamity that killed everybody and the collapse of society that followed. If you're reading this, that means you did, too. Now I'm just trying to live in the harsh remains of what's left over.

I live in the second floor of what was once a public library, and one of the library computers miraculously has access to the internet. I post some of my thoughts and activities onto my blog in the hopes that it might help somebody, somewhere.

Today I met a survivor who was a Wall Street Banker back before the big event happened. He told me that, for a short while, lots of people were dying, and that led to some of the more general markets (food, clothing, real estate) crashing because of decreased demand causing prices to drop; but at the same time, more specialized markets (jewelry, software development, perfumes) crashed because of the people who produced them dying, which lead to decreased supply and this higher prices.

Eventually, of course, people become so spread out that they stopped using money altogether, the Dow Jones fell to zero, and he realized how silly the whole thing even was.

Been picking up a transmission on the radio that says there's a self-sustained bunker not far from the city who say they're looking for more people. I'm debating whether or not I should go - these types of things are usually traps

If they say "We're an agrarian commune full of fresh fruits and vegetables", that usually means that they've already ran out of food, resorted to cannibalism, ran out of food again, and are hoping someone out there is dumb enough to waltz right in and get turned into dinner.

Plus? The people who live in bunkers are never healthy. They're all pale and vitamin-D deficient. Some of them have rickets.

Sometimes I see bunkerites coming into the city to find building supplies. They always have to hide in the shadows during midday because they find direct sunlight blinding. And then they can't stand to stay outside at night because the stars in the sky freak them the hell out. Bunch of weirdos.

But then again. I hear the air inside those bunkers can be awfully clean and free of dust and pollution....
