Okay but frog genitalia are internal whereas male rats have among the largest proportionate ballsacks of any animal.
If you grew up constantly apologizing and then apologizing for apologizing and you were/are afraid (or unable) to express your emotions and feelings because it was seen as “manipulative”, or for any reason, I love you and I hope you’re having a good day
i am actually insufferable once I get comfortable with someone

There's a fine line between letting go of your fear of being cringe and accepting your genuine self completely and wholeheartedly, and becoming a completely unhinged shameless gross little feral animal, and I'm going to snort it.

Which will fade first? Memories of the Area 51 "raid", or memories of Internet Explorer?
I had previously seen the bottom image with zero context like 5 times before finally finding the context post and that’s why I love tumblr.
“what if kids identify with something and it ends up just being a phase-?” good. stop teaching and expecting kids (and adults honestly) to formulate permanent traits and ideas of themselves. everything in life is a phase. that doesn’t make it any less legitimate while you experience it. let people explore themselves and know it’s okay if what you think about yourself changes.
Can someone please explain to me WHY no one can accept that I knit for pleasure?? Every time someone compliments me on my knitting they ask me if I've thought about selling it. NO GOD DAMMIIT NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE A SIDE HUSTLE
It would take all the pleasure out of it.
Bring back people doing things for fun. Jesus.
When people ask me that, I usually just say “yes” and wait. Either they’re taken aback by the one word answer and don’t push it, more usually they fall into my cunning trap and ask where I sell stuff. To which I then reply, “I don’t. No one wants to pay $500 for a pair of socks.”
If they are foolish enough to continue their questioning, they are subjected to my rant about the historical devaluation of textile labour, analysis of the time put into each garment I make and its retail cost at a fair wage, and the methods by which fast fashion has trained consumers to devalue handmade goods even more than was the case historically when labour was cheap but materials were expensive. Sometimes I even manage to squeeze in a few words about the problems with the puritanical notion of productivity, how it’s been further bastardised by capitalism, and how attempts to monetise every facet of one’s life results in burnout and despair. Though by the time I’ve warmed up to that they’ve usually fled in terror from the short bearded king who’s gone on such a terrifying rant while aggressively knitting a sock at them.
Thiiiiiis. Every time someone asks me why I don't sell crocheted goods, I'm like I TRIED that, nobody wanted to pay me a fair price for the materials and labor and just kept saying they could find them cheaper at the local big-box so now it's just a fun fidget and a convenient gift, get fuckt.
I was showing my latest WIP to a coworker whose baby daughter will not ride in her car seat unless she has the little blanket I knitted.
Coworker - "Why don't you sell your work?"
Me - "Well, to start with, I'm currently holding $50 worth of hand-dyed merino wool. And that's for a small shawl."
Coworker - "Oh, so the amount you'd have to charge would be a lot."
Me - "Yep. No one wants to pay $200 or more for a hand-knit shawl. Oddly enough, knitters are perfectly happy to give them as gifts without worrying about that."
Coworker "Because they go to people who love getting them."
Me nodding. "Also because if I don't give stuff away, my house will eventually be filled with shawls and blankets. I don't think the show "Hoarders" ever really explored a knitters house."
(Coming soon - "Hoarders - Fiber Artists edition!")
Working on a queen sized fingering weight blanket (crochet).
Yarn cost: $100
Labor hours: will probably be around 200 by the time I'm done
California minimum wage: $16
Blanket cost: $3300 if we think I deserve bare minimum for the labor
i feel like it's absolutely crucial in the social justice world to take "he a little confused but he got the spirit" and similar sentiments/situations as a Win. intent is so much more important than saying it right the first time! if someone is approaching with scuffed language and incorrect terms but they're visibly being as polite as they know how, that person is a friend and should be treated better than what their words might invite in someone else's mouth.
