A new year always makes me happy. It means new possibilities. It means a clean slate. It means new goals. I had an amazing 2017 for so many reasons. I got married to my best friend. I played so much music and found new places to play. I sold out of the new CD I was super proud to make. I made new friends and moved forward in my life. 2018 is going to be a year of personal growth for me. I've told Jeremy already, I feel like this year is going to be epic in some way. I have a feeling. It will be life changing in some way or other. Sooooo...thank the musical gods that Montell Jordan made this song so that Jeremy and I could make it relevant to the approximately 15lbs of bread we have to toast to make bread for Thanksgiving!!! My #tbt is from Saturday night. I got to play at Shenanigans in Dahlonega again (which I love!) and it was Veteran's Day weekend. A man walked up and asked me if I knew or could play "Hallelujah". I don't normally play the song but I do know it. After a couple of songs, I played it and didn't think about it after. When I was finished with my set and packing up, he came over, hugged me and slid this dollar with a few others in my hand and leaned down and said, "Thank you so much for playing that song. Read that when you get home." I unfolded it a few minutes later because I was curious and I lost it. If you can't read it, it says: "I lost 4 marines in Afganistan & sang that song for them. Thank you." No matter how small the act, you can make a huge impact on someone. So, when you get married, everyone asks the same question: "How is married life?" And I've been lazy and answered the same every time: "The same as unmarried life." But the truth of the matter is, it's not the same. It's better. I find myself looking over at him in the car or in our living room and telling myself, "That's my husband!" I have always been happy to be with Jeremy but I feel happier now. It has been one month today since we were married and I love life and I love loving him so much...maybe even more than before. We wanted to have a moment of silence and walk the same path that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led so many men, women and children down. We stood on the steps of the courthouse. We stood (and I cried) outside of the church where he spoke. We saw names of people who lost their lives in riots that should never have existed. I have had an easy life.
