It's cold here but that doesn't bother him. What gets to him is the vibrations in the air, the auras, the stank of death and the itch of something nearby but out of sight. He swallows and knows this is a bad idea but; "Hello?" He calls. "Who's there?"
Mac had been out for a stroll, he didnât need to eat, he had eaten both soul and flesh in the last couple nights so he was pretty satiated. But he did like going for walks and runs, it got his blood pumping when there was a chase. However he was trying to be good, yet when he saw the other his curiosity was piqued and he decided to follow, it had been a while since he had met a new Yugi, though this ones smell wasâŠdifferent.Â
He paused when he called out and melded into the shadows, watching him with curious eyes. Shoving his hands into his pockets he leaned against the wall. âJust a curious observer,â he finally decided to answer, voice low and amused.
Yugi knew that voice and, pivoting, he knew that face too. Instinct told him to grit his heels in and start a fight but foresight told him to restrain himself for the time being. This wasnât his Nameless Pharaoh. This was a new person, a stranger, so there was no point rushing into battle. Yet. He had to give this man a chance, he had to stay calm but to say he was on edge was an understatement. There was tension all through his form condensed at the scars around his neck.
âGlad to be intriguing?â He offered by way of reply. âYugi, or Pr-Aa, you?â He dove straight into introductions with a kind of casual swagger. He was going to hold his own against this man, however mysterious and simultaneously familiar.Â

âFive thousandâŠ? I wonder if Iâll live that longâŠâ He whispered, cupping his own puzzle close to his chest. It still didnât feel like it belonged to him. It still felt like a shoe two sizes too big. âI see⊠thatâsâŠ. but you could send me home, right? Using this magic I could go home?â
âIâŠâ he shook his head mournfully, eyes sharp. âNo, I canât promise that. At best my people will panic and flee. At worst weâll incite an angry mob and be set upon. It wouldnât be safe for Atemu in my world anymore. His face is too.. too like that manâs. Iâm sorry.â
Saphron shook his head as Atemu shrugged âdonât apologize, but I believe we have a small solution⊠I canât send you back alone.. my magic will not work that way, however, if I were to wear a cloak.. cover my face⊠would that work?â Atemu asked as Saphron summoned up Yugiâs old clothes, then also summoned three cloaks, to keep them warm and to hide AtemuÂ
âwe both arenât strong enough to transport you out-right, Yugi, but like Atemu stated if we came with you, then the magic would be easier and less painful, we have cloaks⊠Atemu knows how to disguise himselfâŠâ Saphron was curious as well, wanting to see Yugiâs world, as he had yet to leave the multi-verse, unlike Atemu who explored the realms whenever he had the chance to
âIt should work,â Yugi supposed, frowning as he thought it over. âJust be careful, alright? A face like yours and, well...â theyâd incite a panic throughout the capitol if Atemu was spotted and reorganized. âThank you,â he whispered, taking up his remaining jewelry and clothes.Â
âSo we can visit my world but you canât drop me off there?â He tried to understand. He just wanted to go home.Â

âFive thousand...? I wonder if Iâll live that long...â He whispered, cupping his own puzzle close to his chest. It still didnât feel like it belonged to him. It still felt like a shoe two sizes too big. âI see... thatâs.... but you could send me home, right? Using this magic I could go home?â

Yugi had borrowed some clothes from Saphron so, puzzle aside, he looked to be a normal teenage boy wandering aimlessly through the streets of Domino city. He just... he wanted to explore. This place was so curious and so unlike his homeworld in so many different ways. Besides the distraction of ambling kept him from worrying about the fate of his people back home.
He pushed his hands into his pockets and pivoted on the corner. There were familiar faces all around him but he knew to these people heâd be a stranger. It was surreal. So he--
He recognized another face.
And before he really knew what he was doing he was running after them. He tried to will his feet to stop but his body just wouldnât listen. It was going to catch up with this figure come hell or high water but Yugi knew he was just asking for pain in following them. Still... âHey! Wait! Yami?â He called. âYami is that you?âÂ

âMine must be a small and strange world compared to yours.â He assured Atemu dutifully. âSo many things between our two worlds are alike and yet the differences are pronounced in funny places. Iâ I donât suppose Iâm making any sense? Ignore my rambling.â He dismissed with a flick of the wrist, his eyes still lingering on the universe map that held his attention steadfast.
âThe Godâs Puzzle, we called it,â Yugi nodded over his item. âThere was a legend that more existed at the beginning of time but I never saw them myself. ThoughâŠâ he frowned, âBakura, the Thief King, he wore a bizarre gold amulet that made me feel uncomfortable in the same way the Puzzle does. I donât suppose you could describe the other items for me?â
âNo, Iâm sorry,â he whispered. âI was born during the Pharaohâs reign and all history prior to that time was eradicated. Anything that wasnât central to the narrative of his glory was destroyed.â
Atemu nodded and slowly began pacing, his wings flexed open as he did so âthe other six items.. â he began as he used magic to bring forth an image âwere the Millennium Eye, the Millennium Rod, the Millennium Key, the Millennium Scale, the Millennium Necklace and the Millennium Ring..â as he named off each item, an image of said item appeared until they were all visibleÂ
âthough the Millennium Puzzle is considered the most powerful, due to possessing the Power of Unity, and belonged to the Pharaoh⊠though were I come from these sacred Items donât exist.. and the Bakura in my world became a world-renowned Priestâ he admitted with a light smile âthough he would tease me on occasion, he was a decent man, though I canât say stuff like that about his incarnations.. as they..well about 90% of them, are all tied to the Ring and what had happened.âÂ
âThatâs it!â He gestured emphatically. âThatâs his amulet! Youâre telling me itâs another item with power like the Godâs Puzzle andâŠ?â He paled. âIf my Bakura has that power and I am not there to reign him in⊠are my people in danger? Is my world in danger?â
âMy Bakura wasâŠâ He shook his head. âHe saved my life once. Why would he suddenly turn on me andâŠ? This is all so confusing.â He clutched his head in his hands. âIâm not military strategist.â Â
Atemu sighed â I am not sure⊠in all honesty your worldâŠyour realm sounds so much different from what is knownâŠâ he looked around the map as Saphron used a bit of his magic to bring forth the smaller realms âeach of theseâŠâ Atemu began âhave the seven items⊠but the path of destiny they followâŠâ a bright blue thread left from each world, though the threads splintered and divided âhmm.. I see these take a different path⊠Yugi.. look at these three worlds hereâŠâ
Atemu used his magic and enlarged the planets âthe golden light you see is the Millennium Items.. these three worlds possess them.. but their destinies are not tied to each other like usualâŠâ he walked to the center one âthis one⊠however.. the aura itâs giving off⊠feels.. much like yours⊠come here.. stand beside meâ he gestured to the boy, as he was standing in the center of the middle orbÂ
âItâs my duty to protect the people of my homeworld from chaos and wickedness.â A heavy burden for a child to bear but one Yugi took on proudly. He did not enjoy the stress but such was his life and to neglect those he loved would be⊠he couldnât do that. His world needed him and he owed it his protection.
âFeels like meâŠ?â He whispered, rising up out of his seat. He didnât want to approach the man; some instinct of his supposed this might be a trap but pushing past it he slunk a little closer, never quite touching, and waited for the man to direct him. He was cautious.Â
Atemu looked down at him ârelax.. I know because of the way I look you do not trust me, but you have nothing to fearâ he smiled softly âSaphron would be the one doing this but his powers are limited unlike mineâ, Saphron pouted at that, while his sons chuckled a bit
Atemu then raised his hand and the orb shifted creating colors then buildings the sand, the sky.. everything, Atemu looked around âdoes this seem familiar?â he asked, he knew the people here could not see them, unless he removed the vial that was around he and Yugi, he could only do this sparingly, but as the God of Destiny he needed to get the smaller male back on track and where he belonged
âSorry,â he whispered. He felt a little embarrassed but a lifetime of indoctrination told him to be afraid. The scars on his body told him to be afraid. But then, he guessed, this was a fear he might have to crest and this Atemu had been nothing but kind. âUnlimited power... does it scare you sometimes to have that much power inside you?â
The world that unfurled before them was a winter wonderland. Snow clung to the cobblestones and in the distance an monolithic palace stretched up towards the sky. It was black and pearly and-- âThis is it,â he whispered, âthis is my home. Howâre you--?â He glanced about at the folks in their winter garb, fingers twitching by his side. Could he touch them? Â
Like for a starter~!

Setoâd had an excellent ride. There were absolutely no cars on the road at that hour, so he could drive freely, and fast. It was guaranteed there werenât; the roads to the abandoned part of the industrial area had been out of service for years, and, being Seto Kaiba, he bought them. He had his own network of roads for his own amusement. Thatâs not what heâd said he would do, but anyway.
Shirley was an excellent co-driver, who (yes, âwhoâ, she was practically a person) had an uncanny ability to sense stuff on the road. That was because Seto didnât know what to do with all the military tech he inherited and decided to intergrate in her car functions an actual radar, which could spot even a goddamn mouse.
But now it spotted a person, and Seto hit the breaks hard, nails making tiny scratches on the steering wheelâs surface.
Yugi realized a second too late the thing on the horizon was gunning for him and unable to run threw his hands up before his face bracing for impact. He only had a second to ready himself, his Puzzle burning against his chest, and then the tires squealed loudly andâŠÂ
When Yugi squinted, opening his eyes just a fraction, he saw the device had skidded to a halt in front of him. He eased a little, hesitantly, lowering his arms and with a gaping gulp took in the man front seat. What was this thing? Was it some human transport device? Either way he and the man were now gawking at each other and Yugi really ought to say something.
âSorry âbout thatâŠâ he fumbled for words. âAre you alright?â
Physically, yes, but the mental blow was debilitating. First, he had to balance out the adrenaline peak. He breathed in and out, timing it like he had taught himself to. It barely had an effect. But it was a start.
How could a person have found their way into his highway? It was warded tp be off limits to anyone but people he had specifically authorized, by name. And that boy-
He hadnât even recovered from the first shock. This was another Yugi clone, on top of everything else, except for a tan and a deer in the headlights reaction to cars. And he was armed with a Puzzle, too. Seto shut his eyes and smacked the wheel in frustration. Shirley, almost as if she had the instincts of a real person, didnât protest as she normally would.
âIâm fine.â he answered between gritted teeth. âHow did you get here?â
"I...Uh...â He fumbled for his words. He was normally more eloquent than this but he felt as if he was staring down the barrel of a very big weapon. âThe ocean. I fell out of the ocean.â A strange choice of words but one which captured the overwhelming weirdness of his situation. Heâd been in his room and then suddenly in the ocean and then, finally, on this highway. It had been a dreadful morning.Â
@Grim-Secret
When the mind was made up, anything became possible. Silhouettes cultivated themselves into the realistic portrayal of their inner most nightmare. The wind transformed into whispers. Every subtle shift the world naturally gave was some indication that they were on the right trail forward, even if reality would dictate otherwise if the mind was clearer to truth.
One foot shuffling in front of the next, compelling the body forward to where the eventual prize could be clenched. Targeting the Gods was mad enough, what did it say of the boys steady refusal to give up. To keep moving according to the will of his heart. Or perhaps the puzzle vibrating in his hands.
Was it the magic of the place it reacted to?
The boy moved with purpose, into a tangle of brush too thick to traverse. Thorns stuck into garments, ripping at flesh threatening the eyes if one might turn the wrong way. The trees themselves seemed to lean.
While once the Lady believed she looked at her master, she knew her master would not be so careless. Not the way he was now. Why look for fights when fights delivered themselves? It seemed an awful waste of resources to fight so hard to find confrontation.
Even if there was justification for the hunt.
A personal vendetta.
The Lady did not know what guided him, but as prey did when crawling into a sticky web, so too did the boy into her own trap.
She licked at her lips, ready to feast.
His puzzle vibrated against his chest, tingling, and he didnât really know why. He was new to the Godâs Puzzle. Itâs powers were still vague and mysterious to him and he was learning, with time, to master them but... But why here? Why now? What was it about this place in particular? This lordly, impossible, pocket of reality...
He felt something approaching, something coming up behind him, and he turned, twisting, struggling to avoid the tress that seemed to press in ever closer with every given second.Â
