NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 1968 — dir. George A. Romero
It’s a record. Stutz Black Hawk Special, 1928. A one-off, highly advanced land speed record (LSR) car, with a streamlined body, developed with the aid of a wind tunnel, a pioneering technique at the time. It was powered by a unique 3-litre Miller U-16 engine (two 1.5-litre Miller straight-eight engines on a common crankcase) with intercooled twin superchargers. It was piloted by American racer Frank Lockhart, who is credited with developing and incorporating one of the first successful intercoolers in a racing car. Lockhart took the Stutz to Daytona Beach, Florida, in early 1928 to challenge the existing land speed record. During test runs, the car reached speeds of over 200 mph. On an official pass in April 1928, Lockhart achieved 203.45 mph (327.40 km/h) on one leg. On April 25, 1928, during a return run, a blistered right rear tyre (possibly cut by a seashell) exploded at over 220 mph, causing the car to flip violently. Lockhart was thrown from the car and killed instantly.

Zephyr Land Yacht, 1936. Designed for "millionaire" William Woods Plankinton, Jr. by Brooks Stevens. A two-part rig, the trailer pulled by a teardrop-like cab, accommodated six with two staff. The occupants had access to a kitchen, bathroom (with shower) and living room. The chauffeur and cook had bunks. From 1936 on, the yacht regularly carried its owner and his guests across country to and from New York and California.
