She wanted to say two days ago. Even she knew that was a bad idea. “I suppose I should be generous and give you seventy-two hours.”
Absolute panic crossed her mind. If Bela was here, she’d be laughing so hard she’d burst into flies. There was a trail of blood of those who said no, leading all the way here. “Yeah but also people talk shit and hype up stuff. Experience also teaches me that people will sign anyone up for anything.” She did get revenge by doing nothing, put whining the entire time.
“Soooooooo why should I trust anyone’s word on you?”
“...” He gave her a cold look. He didn’t appreciate disrespect, especially from potential employers. If she didn’t have trust in his skill, why would she go through all the trouble to bring him here?
He normally didn’t travel so far from home, but the pay offered for this job was enough to fully set up Meghan’s college fund. He couldn’t turn it down, especially when he was told it was of utmost importance to the safety of the population that he arrive as quickly as possible.Â
He was being challenged. Like she assumed he wasn’t capable of half of what she was asking for. As though she assumed she was sending him on a suicide mission.Â
“I’ll have the keycard within 48 hours,” he said flatly. “The target will be dead, and his colleagues will be none the wiser. Will that satisfy you?”
dimitrescuflowers:
“Yes.” She pouted. She wanted to rip his throat out herself. Then make him watch his own life pour from the wound. “But if he dies, they know something’s up.” And who knows what they will do to her precious sisters.
“I dunno. Anything of value? Copy of his work? You know, something of use.” Mostly so she can rub it in their faces later, or so Mother can laugh at the work of men.
“You are aware you are going into a massive secretive organisation who are winning to kill people for being a minor inconvenience?”
“Hm. I’ll see what I can do.” He pulled out his phone, taking snapshots of what he would most need to remember about the files. “Do you have a specific timeframe in which you want this done? Twenty-four hours, seventy-two hours, a week?”
At her next question, he gave her a slow, cold blink. His original assumption going into this was that she had ties with his former employers. How else would she know who he was, where he was, and what his skillset was? But her last question really made it seem like she had no idea of what he was capable of.Â
“You shouldn’t doubt me,” he told her. “I’ve been in this profession for nearly twenty-six years. I would have thought Mr. Cheung would have filled you in - was that not why you chose me?”
dimitrescuflowers:
“Oh~ Maybe~” She giggled. She pulled a file from her. Making it look like it’s from inside her dress and not nestled in her body. Because that would be weird.Â
If he took the file, he would find a very neatly colour coded plan, detailing the scientist’s routine, entrances and exits, security and her very detailed and intense feelings about this guy and the organisation he works for. They kept their scientists in safe houses under constant surveillance. They were looking for flies, not humans.
“I’d go in, but~ I chose life.” She smiled.
He didn’t seem to notice where the file had truly come from, looking it over thoroughly. This was very good information; without even thinking about it, he could already see three different ways to ambush this man and take the keycard. But that was the question - whether it would be killing him, or detaining him. Both options had their pros and cons.Â
“Do you want him dead?” He asked quietly, bringing his gaze to hers. He charged more for killing, as it was typically messier and occasionally much more difficult. “I need to know up front, is there anything else you need from me other than this particular keycard?”
dimitrescuflowers:
She bit her lip wondering how to phrase it. Stating the truth that her sisters had been kidnapped and were currently being held as experiments probably wouldn’t go down well. Even less if she had to explain that they were made up of many flies, and she couldn’t just go in because they would be expecting that.
Damn, this was hard.
She answered him in a singsongy way. “Ok. How about? I pay you to steal something for me. A key card. To a high security facility.” If she just went in and murdered the scientist they would know and who knows what would happen to Bel and Cass.
This piqued his interest. Stealing a keycard meant she intended to go deeper into the facility - meaning there was something there that she wanted. Why wouldn’t she get it herself, if she was willing to go in once she had the keycard? Why not send him in to claim what she was truly looking for?
Nonetheless, he’d done this sort of job before. Many times. Usually, it was just as simple as finding someone with security clearance outside the facility, killing them, and stealing their identity. Even if they didn’t leave, he’d been able to break into such places before.Â
“You’ll need to give me a specific target,” he told her slowly, still calculating. “A person or place. How difficult do you believe it will be for me to get it? Have you done reconnaissance, or will I be going in blind?”
dimitrescuflowers:
“Soooo…” She smiled and leaned forwards with her elbows on her knees and her head on her hands. “You like toying with them. Making them trust you. Just to hurt them.”
Her face suddenly went blank and she leaned backwards. “Unfortunately, I might need you.” She leaned her head against the wall. “I need to retrieve…something.” Humans were fragile and if she fully explained, she might kill him…by accident.
He pressed his lips together into a firm line. Hurt them... no, he wouldn’t put it that way. He was a killer, not a torturer. But he couldn’t exactly say she was wrong.Â
He adjusted his sleeves, eyeing her warily. He was willing to hear her out, help her if he could. If doing so wouldn’t go against his moral code. “What exactly do you need me to do?”
dimitrescuflowers:
She shrugged and pretended to strangle herself with the tie. She giggled. “What are you five? Targets?”
“What do you do? Play dress up before you butcher?” She smiled, not at all taking anything seriously. It wasn’t like her entire life was dedicated to experimenting and butchering human life.
"Not exactly, no." He shook his head. Did it count as dress up if he usually dressed that way? "Certain people only let their guards down when they're surrounded by similar people. It's less messy to hide in plain sight."
@dimitrescuflowers said:Â
Cassandra wrapped her hand around his neck. Just tight enough to be painful. "Go on then. Try and breathe."
Rian did no such thing. He couldn’t say he was overly surprised to be grabbed - it wasn’t the first time. It was, however, one of the first times he’d ever been grabbed by a woman so unusually large - yes, he could tell as much even though she was still behind him. It’d also been a while since someone seemed intent on strangling him rather than simply shooting or stabbing him to death.Â
He could have attacked, but he didn’t make a habit of killing someone who wanted him dead without at least discovering the reasoning behind it.Â
So he stood still for just a fraction of a second, as if complying, then abruptly moved backwards to loosed her hold on him. Then he spun in the opposite direction of her arm, moving away from her hands.Â
As he moved back, he drew his gun from beneath his jacket, holding it between the two.Â
Let that stand as his answer.Â
dimitrescuflowers:
Dani swift tied the tie around her neck, the one she had pinched from his stuff. She was still very much, whatever belonged to other’s belonged to her. Since Bela or Cass wasn’t around he would have to do.
She very much stayed sat down. She didn’t want to play with him just yet and towering over guys either made them very uncomfortable or they made her very comfortable. Guhs and some girls were gross like that.
“So do you have to kill X amount of people to look dapper in a suit or is it a skill you are supposed to know?”
Rian pressed his lips together, trying to keep from smiling in amusement. Not that he enjoyed having his things stolen - but her question was so unexpectedly funny he might have laughed.Â
He shook his head. “It’s not something you learn from killing, or street ruffians would look very charming. I’ve worn suits since I was twelve; it’s necessary to get close to certain targets.”

Leo snorted. “Nice save with that, dude. But, yeah, I’m not a charity and I don’t exactly let myself be a charity. I don’t need people’s fucking sympathy. I get enough from my family and my brother’s friends.”
Rian was like Carl, at least in Leo’s eyes. Carl had a lot of money too, though he donated a lot of it, especially nowadays to Jericho and android support organizations.
Rian sighed deeply. Leo very much reminded him of his ex-wife; stubborn, and resistant to outside help. It was the majority of the reason she’d refused his offers of money. Particularly because she knew where the money came from.Â
“You’re free to repay me if you’re so inclined. But I ask that you consider your physical health.”
XX
“Ohh no. Don’t worry, it’s okay!” She smiled. She shrugged. “I don’t think you’re nosy. Not really.” That was good at least. She really didn’t mind it. She’s had nosier people asking a ton more questions. And they weren’t as nice. But this man was very nice! He was different than others she had met. Most weren’t so nice to her, or at least she thought so. “And! I’m used to running around without mittens! You don’t even notice after a while! But I do like your mittens they are all nice and cozy warm.” She tapped her hands together a few times happily.
“Would you like to play in the snow with me mister?”
@prayersforthewicked
The question caught him off guard for a moment. He hadn’t been expecting to be invited to play in the snow with her, but now that she had asked him...Â
He smiled warmly at her, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “I would love to. Thank you.”
loosecannon-justice:
Well, it made sense that Rian was well off. His clothes and car were dead giveaways. Though, Leo did have a… strange view of wealth. His father was loaded, he knew that, but even someone who could afford a new car was rich in Leo’s eyes.
“…Fine. I just feel like I owe you more than I can give you, dude. You already saved my life and know you’re willin’ to pay for my shit?”
“It would do you far more good than it would me,” he assured Leo.Â
Even taking the job of killing a single person gave someone quite a lot of money. So long as he was smart with his finances - and he was - he’d be well off for the rest of his life because of his early life work.
“It’s better the money be given to those who need it. I’ve been donating a considerable amount of time and money to charity recently - I don’t see this as any different. Not that I think you’re a charity...”
loosecannon-justice:
“You don’t gotta do that.” Leo insisted. “T is expensive. You don’t have to waste your money on that. I can handle skipping out on a few things to make up for it.”
One thing Leo hated, it was having people pay for him. It made him feel like he was freeloading or even stealing, even if the person wanted to pay for him. He didn’t want to be the person he used to be before rehab.
“I don’t think it’s good for you to skip doses,” Rian disagreed. “If you like, you could consider it a loan. I’m only trying to ensure you remain healthy.”
He sighed, closing his eyes a moment. “Apologies. Just know that I have more money than I currently need, and have reason to pay good fortune forward.”
And reason to believe he’d die sooner than most. But he wasn’t about to say so.Â

Parents? She froze. That was a tough topic. Adults always asked questions she didn’t like or had answers to. Things about parents was one of them.
“I uh… don’t really have anyone. At least no one who would buy me mittens I think.”
Rian did his best to mask his horror at what she was telling him. No one taking care of her? She was running around without help in the middle of winter?
His entire being cowered away from the thought. It hit a little too close to home, and he wasn’t about to let this stand. Not for an innocent little girl.
“Okay,” he told her. “That’s okay. I’m sorry if I’m being a little nosy; I have a daughter of my own, and I’d hope she wouldn’t be running around in the snow without mittens.”
