Some updated storyboards. I'm still playing with some of the action as I'm not 100% on some of the effects I'll need, like fire. But nothing beats a failure but a try 🫡
Color and style studies. 11/18/23
This clip represents somewhat of the chase scene in my final project. Of course, the chase scene between Ploppy and the Cat will be of a much smaller scale, but it emulates how a character can use their environment to add a dynamic flare. Notice how Levi (character in motion) uses the surrounding buildings, carts, and other platforms to aid in his pursuit. Starting at 0:38-1:15.
In my version, Ploppy will also use his surroundings and ultimately dictate how the chase scene will commence. I also like to envision that the camera will follow Ploppy and/or the Cat quickly, as shown above.

Story Splines
Once upon a time: there was a purple, apple-sized wizard, named Ploppy
And every day: he would travel the world in search of new magic
Until one day: Ploppy is led to a mysterious magical cottage to help his hamster friend, Hammy, find some food
And because of that: Ploppy awakens a fierce horned feline who is also hungry for an apple-sized snack
And because of that: the little wizard is chased throughout the cottage room with the horned feline at his heels
And because of that: the whole room gets wrecked with Ploppy seconds away from his end
Until finally: the owner of the cottage and feline, a powerful wizard comes to his rescue
And since that day: Ploppy and the new wizard become friends, much to the dismay of the feline
And the moral of the story is: It’s better to at least try and ask for help rather than breaking in and attempting to steal.
***
Once upon a time: there was a bigger-than-average hamster named Hammy
And every day: he would struggle to survive
Until one day: Hammy accidentally meets a little apple-sized-wanna-be wizard named Ploppy, who shares in her plight.
And because of that: Ploppy takes it upon himself to help Hammy
And because of that: the little wizard finds himself in some perilous situations
And because of that: Ploppy avoids death countless times
Until finally: The little wizard learns to master any situation for his friend
And since that day: Ploppy and Hammy travel the world together
And the moral of the story is: Friends can be a pain, but a pain that’s worth it.
***
Once upon a time: there was a lonely wizard with eyes of gold
And every day: he would guard the forest from the darkness
Until one day: he noticed traces of a small creature he had never seen before
And because of that: the wizard investigates, noticing that the small creature loves fruits
And because of that: he purposefully leaves out fresh fruits in hopes that the creature will visit.
And because of that: he unwittingly has his cottage room destroyed when the little creature takes the bait but is chased by his cat
Until finally: the owner of the cottage calms his feline pet and assures the little creature that everything is okay.
And since that day: the lonely wizard wasn’t as lonely anymore, now that he had another wizard friend.
And the moral of the story is: Keeps your pets close, or they may end up eating your guests.
***
Once upon a time: in the magical land of Mysteria, three magical creatures would soon meet.
And every day: destiny would drive them closer
Until one day: the two littlest ones meet and instantly bond with their sense of adventure and food
And because of that: They end up at the cottage of the third, a talented, yet lonely wizard who yearns for companionship.
And because of that: The wizard welcomes his unannounced guest with pleasure, even rescuing them from his fierce feline
And because of that: The three magical creatures form an unlikely friendship
Until finally: They become inseparable forming bonds that transcend lifetimes
And since that day: In each life they look for each other once more to share in the adventures of life.
And the moral of the story is: Crossing paths are accidental, but staying on the same path is a choice.

Mood Board 4: Anti
These are examples of aesthetics and styles that I want to avoid. I want to avoid the overly cartoonish style of Disney and the traditional long-bearded wizard of old. Also, no wands, so no Harry Potter stuff. I also visualize the world to be slightly more dark but fun at the same time.
Mood Board 3: Objects
Here are some examples of the types of objects that will populate the scene (a.k.a. the wizard's lab). I chose objects that are familiar enough to recognize, but whimsical enough to belong to another world. I also was attracted to glowing effects as I believe they'd make some interesting lighting variations to play with. Best case scenario, I can learn to make stuff like these in Maya
Mood Board 2: Color Palette
For the main color palette, I plan to keep the colors cool as it will be nighttime for the majority of the project. I also just like the aesthetic of pinks, purples, and blues with a hint of greens and yellows to add to the natural setting. Ploppy himself is purple so to make sure he looks like he belongs in his world, I wanted the color palette to be slightly inspired by him.
Mood Board 1:
General look + architecture. Backgrounds will be mostly realistic, although architecturally whimsical to play into the "magic" side of Ploppy's world. The majority of the film will be at night with soft candlelight and/or magic-glowing stones or spells.
Limits
Two limitations for my project are time and skillset. For time, it would dictate what kind of story to tell. A comprehensive, un-rushed, and complete story that lasts for a few minutes AND allows for reasonable production. Skillset will limit what I can do within the project. Many scenes work in my head, but may not be practical in practice. Not to mention I am swimming in unknown waters in the length of this project, advanced animation techniques, and new programs. On top of that, I'm attempting to merge them all while keeping on top of other life requirements.
