amidst all this celebration i hope we can also take a sec to remember Ramsey Orta who will be in prison for another 3.5 years for simply catching clear police brutality on tape, and i hope we can remember all the people that we don’t know about who have been effectively silenced and imprisoned for trying to reveal corruption within government
Ramsey Orta found rat poison in his food, so he doesn’t trust prison meals, and is only eating pre-wrapped snacks from the commissary, WHEN they let him have access to the money on his books. They’re trying to break him and kill him, All because he filmed police killing Eric Garner. Don’t forget about Ramsey Orta and his family. This is the official page for information on his well-being and donation efforts.
Today, a group of Muslims leaving the mosque from taraweeh prayers on this holy and beautiful month of Ramadan were hit by a vehicle by a white TERRORIST. He isn’t mentally ill, he chose to run into innocent people but the media will never let you know. Pray for the Muslim families and the tragedies of minorities that become silenced by the media. Praying for these families
valerie castile, philando’s mother, on today’s not guilty verdict in minnesota.
“my son loved this city, and this city killed my son.”
Video transcript:
Valerie Castile: “I am so disappointed in the state of Minnesota. My son loved this state. He had one tattoo on his body and it was of the twin cities - the state of Minnesota with TC on it. My son loved this city and this city killed my son and a murderer gets away. Are you kidding me right now? We’re not evolving as a civilization - we’re devolving. We have taken steps forward, people have died for us to have these rights, and now we’re devolving. We’re going back down to 1969. Damn! What is it going to take? I’m mad as hell right now, yes I am. My first born, one son, dead here in Minnesota. Under the circumstance just because he (the officer, Jeronimo Yanez) was a police officer that makes it okay. Oh, now they get free range. He’s found innocent on all accounts. He shot into a car with no regard to human life and that’s okay. Thank you Minnesota.”

just in case you somehow forgot how horrible the pro life movement is
if people have the right to the hospital then i have the right to critically wound them
If people have the right to education then I have the right to give them brain damage
If people have the right to speak freely then I have the right to silence them permanently.
After dramatic negotiation session at the Cannes Film Festival, Netflix has nabbed a film project pairing Grammy winner Rihanna with Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, in a concept that began as a Twitter sensation. Ava DuVernay (Selma) will direct, and Issa Rae (Insecure) is in talks to write the screenplay. According to sources, Netflix landed the project in a very aggressive bid, beating out multiple other suitors. Netflix had no comment. The project began as a Twitter meme when the photo above — a shot that was taken in 2014 of the two women in the front row of a Miu Miu fashion show — went viral, prompting calls to turn it into a movie.

Turnout for 18-24 year olds in 2015: 43% Turnout for 18-24 years olds in 2017: 72%!
Honestly, I’m so proud of my generation for this result.
This shows just how powerful the youth vote is in swinging the entire election in a direction no one predicted. Your vote DOES make a difference! Stay informed, stay politically active. We are the future.
bernie sanders congratulating jeremy corbyn and the labour party for their campaign against the conservatives
This will forever be one of the main takeaways. Many MPs behaved as though they would rather have lost the election than won with Corbyn. Very similar to establishment Democrats in the U.S and their treatment of Bernie Sanders during the primaries. They might very well have cost the party–and the people–this election.
Without being too melodramatic, whatever happens over the next few hours, history is being made.
72% of 18 to 24 year olds voted in the UK elections yesterday. Today, Theresa May faces a hung parliament (there is not clear winner with a majority) and a DECREASED number of seats when she called this election because she thought she could strengthen her majority. And that, kids, is why we should vote. We make a fucking different. Today we could have been facing a country where our internet is monitored, our human rights are stripped away, and the most vulnerable in our society are disgustingly exploited by the government. Instead, now, there is HOPE.
