Headcannon that Five is afraid of the dark because of some individual training Hargreeves put him through ? Like Hargreeves could of tied him up in something thatās resistant to his power in a pitch black, noise-cancelling room and forced him to use his power to get out, so the first time it happened Five was stubborn and confident heād get out, but he starts to panic after a few attempts; one because heās struggling to use his power due to the restrictive material or whatever it is, two because he can see absolutely nothing. The only source of light is the blue glow of his power and even that is extremely dim because of the resistant material. Everytime he had his training, heād be in that room for hours, unknowingly of what was in there, in complete darkness, struggling to get out and it really messes with him - forming his fear of the dark. Of course he never tells his siblings, but they never questioned as to why Five always slept with his bedside lamp on or why he always took a torch with him when they snuck out to Griddyās in the middle of the night. Maybe he hinted to Vanya at some point that he hated the dark, which is why she always left the light on for him after he disappeared, so he wouldnāt be afraid.
