I am in awe of the very notion of love,
Of how it promises and brings people joy,
The way it can fill hearts with warmth and light,
And leave a trail of beauty in its sight.
But I cannot deny that I fear the thought of being in love,
Of opening my heart and being vulnerable,
To trust someone else with all my hopes and dreams,
And risk the crushing disappointment of their schemes.
I love the idea of love, yet I doubt it's real for me,
For the pain and heartache, I'd rather not see,
For love's an illusion
