Highlights are everything Cure Top does, Cure Break’s actually amazing dancing skills, & Cure Kagura fighting with a fan in his mouth. I want to watch this show so badly, and I would do anything for it to be subbed. I’m feral for these characters I love them sm.

Status of the Podcast

Hey y’all. @timemachineyeah here to talk about the podcast.

There are still many unedited episodes. We managed to watch through to around the first batch of Splash Star and I still have all those recordings from years ago sitting and waiting to be edited.

As many of you know, but most probably don’t, I have CFS/ME (or some other chronic illness that mimics it - I still hold out vain hope for a more treatable diagnosis). This often got in the way of my ability to record, as I get sick more often, get migraines, and can’t always regulate my energy.

Then many things happened in my personal life and though I had intended to get back to the podcast, as time went on it fell further and further to the wayside. And I got to know my illness better, it became clear that the fewer scheduled commitments I had, the easier it was to maintain health without crashing. At this point I make as few regularly scheduled commitments as I can, and it sucks, but it’s also way better for my ability to do things.

It’s worth admitting at this point the podcast is not coming back.

I still do hold out hope that one day I can at least edit and release the episodes we already recorded (or pay someone else to in an imagined future where I have money). There’s something like 30 unreleased episodes and we had so much fun recording them. I’m sure some PreCure fans would have fun listening to them. But for now the podcast remains on indefinite hiatus, and should it return it will never cover all of Pretty Cure, instead stopping suddenly.

Though if we are lucky enough to be able to edit and release the episodes, maybe we can get back together to record some kind of retrospective or some other send off. These are daydreams right now, though, as I have no immediate plans that would get the episodes ready for release.

The failure to maintain the podcast lies basically entirely with me, Cure Jessica.

Cure Frank ( @drasnianfrank ) and Cure Jade ( @theneptuneviolin ) were always incredibly patient with me and my many Life Things and remain awesome people and cool friends.

That being said, I still want to watch Pretty Cure, so am taking it up casually as a fan. I’m no longer watching on a schedule, just when I’m in the mood.

I’ll be keeping this blog up and might even post here occasionally. Just wanted to let everyone know belatedly what’s gone on, because while our podcast only ever released a handful of episodes, I know people listened to them and enjoyed them and I’ve always appreciated that. Thank you all for your warm reception and support. The PreCure fandom really seems like a lovely corner of the internet.

It’s been a while, are you guys still coming back at some point? Of the few Precure podcasts that exist this was one of the better ones in my opinion.

We do still exist! We haven’t recorded in a long time, but we have a huge backlog of unedited episodes, going all the way to partway through Splash Star, and once we get a good chunk edited, I would like to get to recording regularly again - especially since the upcoming season of PreCure looks like My Interests, and even if it means waiting a decade to see it, I would like to get to it eventually!

So we DO plan to come back EVENTUALLY. Unfortunately, my life in particular has been a bit hectic of late, and so I cannot give you any kind of timeframe. I wouldn’t count on it any time soon. For now consider us on an indefinite hiatus, but do know we do plan for it to be a hiatus and not an end.

My New Attempted Schedule (As It Pertains To All Of You)

All “schedules” are set to how frequently I’d like to accomplish a task, and not a day or time that that task will be accomplished. See here for more personal blathering. 

LIVEBLOGGING

Once a week.

I hope to do at least one liveblogging session a week. Ideally that would be a complete half-hour episode of something (probably HxH, but maybe also Haikyuu!!, which someone has requested), but if a session has to end early because I don’t have stamina then that’s what happens. Sorry to those waiting *checks watch* SIX DAMN MONTHS for me to get my shit together. 

STREAMING VIDEO GAMES

Once a week. 

This one is less strenuous than liveblogging, so it’s maybe sliiiiiggghtly more likely to get a bonus. This is the kind of thing that would be GREAT to have a set day and time, but I know I can’t do that right now. If you want to follow me on twitch, my handle there is taleasoldastimemachine. Right now I’m playing a lot of The Sims 4. Specifically a legacy challenge based on Sailor Moon. I imagine I’ll be playing a LOT of Animal Crossing when the new one comes out. 

MOVIE NIGHT

Once a month.

This is a patreon reward I promised 900 years ago and never fulfilled. This I want to defer to my patrons on. There are so few of us - it’s supposed to be an exclusive to a higher paying tier, but I feel like opening it up could make it more of a party? Regardless, I do want to try to do this. This might be a while before I’ve nailed exact details down, so if anyone has suggestions or thoughts, I welcome them. 

RECORDING PRETTY CURE PODCAST

Once a week, as usual.

For those who listened to the episodes available of Pretty Sure It’s Pretty Cure, what if I told you we never really stopped recording? We’ve had some unplanned recording breaks, but we’ve also had some good long runs of recording just as regularly as when we started. My co-hosts (hi @drasnianfrank and @theneptuneviolin!) have been really good at working with my BS, and so…um… I know we left off our releases at like…. not even the halfway mark of the first season? But we’ve finished watching Max Heart. >.> those episodes are just waiting in the vault for me to edit. 

Sorry to those waiting *checks watch* A ENTIRE FUCKING YEAR for another episode. 

(It is now a constant source of anxiety to me that I will get to those files and they will be broken in a way I have no way to fix now BUTTTTTTTT that probably shouldn’t happen and it’ll be fine hopefully probably oh god it’ll be fine.)

ACTUALLY EDITING THE GODDAMN PODCAST 

Weekly, but we’ll still be behind.

I’m not going to commit to editing an entire episode a week. I’ll shoot for it! But I’m not going to commit to it. Instead I’m setting myself up for One Simple Editing Session a week. Like a minimum of 70 minutes total time spend editing, split into one or two sessions. If I feel like I can do more I will! But if I don’t I won’t push it. This means new episodes SHOULD start to trickle out (and if they do, I think we’ll go for Mondays as usual). But they won’t be every week, as editing 3 hours of audio (which… we record sometimes) down can take five or more hours just by itself.

Any idea when you guys will start releasing episodes again? I assume you have quite the backlog built up so maybe you could do like one a week/month or something. Also you might want to reupload your most recent one at some point, it cuts off during the third episode of that particular batch.

Oh no! Thank you for the heads up! I’ll look into it. 

I ( @timemachineliveblogs / @timemachineyeah ) am the one responsible for editing, and unfortunately my focus has really been elsewhere as of late. I’m sort of trying to start my own business?? which is a lot of work, as well as just taking on every freelance chance and work opportunity I can because my financial situation is… . unsteady. And every month is a fun game of panicking to get rent on time. (Plus, we kind of run a cat rescue from our apartments so a lot of my time is taken up by an army of foster kittens). 

So new episodes WILL be released, but when is harder to say. We DO have quite the backlog (we recorded another episode just yesterday!), and I intend to get a good chunk of it pre-edited before we go forward so the release schedule can be a bit more regular once we do start up again. But as to when that will be ready, I can’t make any commitments, sadly. As soon as I am able! 

(It will be hilarious when it happens, because we make no attempt not to talk about contemporaneous stuff, so it’ll be like a time capsule of “oh yeah remember when Toy Story 4 was new??” and such)

Yes! We have a huge backlog of episodes that just need to be edited and posted! And we’re still recording regularly. Editing is on me (timemachineyeah) and I have had a very tumultuous year, but I fully intend to get back in the editing routine and get these episodes out there.

(So, assuming this blog is still active,) what prompted you to undertake such a large project for the franchise?

It is still active! And we’re still recording regularly. I’m just really slow at editing and uploading. In watch time we’re actually past the first Max Heart movie! I am just, like, EONS BEHIND EDITING. 

And, uh... I guess I just have wanted to watch Pretty Cure for a really long time. But I wanted to do it, like, really properly. Watching all of it chronologically. Movies in air order. I know people say you can take it buffet style - watch what you want in the order you want, but I always wanted to take experience like I would if I’d been following it actively from the moment it started airing. 

And that felt like it should be documented somehow. But liveblogging is really time consuming (believe it or not, podcasting is much faster), and more than that, I wanted to do it with some friends! Watching it by myself would be drudgery sometimes, I think, while watching with friends is always entertaining. 

So I reached out to see if anyone wanted to join me, and some of my friends did, and so we set out to do it!

And it’s really fun. It’s like a silly bookclub. And we’re making it a choice to always make sure we have fun doing the podcast and it’s more about us enjoying ourselves than anything else, and so it’s just a fun weekly time to spend with friends. Watching a show is always more fun when you have people to talk about it with, and that’s especially true of older shows where finding that company experiencing it at the same time as you can be difficult.

But really it’s just... I love magical girls and wanted to watch Pretty Cure for the first time, and wanted to have friends to talk about it with? So I guess “Why did you do this?” “Because I wanted to do it!”

So it’s 100% selfish, lololol. But I hope other people enjoy it too!
