The beautiful ship coming in to harbor:
discord is rolling out age verification starting in march and it's either accepting forms of ID like a drivers license or birth certificate or it allows you to do a "video selfie scan" which makes an age inference based off what you look like (using AI, of course).
and it also says that it will make age inferences based off of how active you are on discord and what games you play and "other behavioral signals"
which is also not to forget the data leak that happened back in october about this very same subject.
this isn't just going to restrict you from age restricted channels or servers, but you're also not going to be allowed to speak in live stages or see any content or images that discord deems "graphic or sensitive" (which is also probably going to be AI inference).
Install vencord for nitro features, install garry's mod to use faceposer for the face scan
Metroid Prime Google Sheet Checklist
On another whim, I whipped up a collectibles checklist for the Metroid Prime series, from the Trilogy to Hunters. I'm sure there are better ones out there. If anything is missing, let me know.
Requires having a google account to save it and actually use it as a checklist.
Access Google Sheets with a personal Google account or Google Workspace account (for business use).
No, I'm not doing scans.
Skyward Sword 99 Treasures and Bugs Guide
On a whim, back in 2021 when The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword HD remaster came out, I decided to grind out 99 treasures and bugs, and wrote up a guide how to do it optimally. No, it wasn't fun.
Behold:
Dundertale.
happy 10 years of Dundertale.
In Super Mario RPG, the collision data for the outside area of the Mushroom Kingdom is much larger than the playable area, indicating that the town was more expansive at some point during development and was scaled down later. In particular, there was a large structure on top or behind the castle, suggesting the castle might have been much larger and have had an explorable roof.

me leaving the theatre with two roasted turkeys in my shoulders
i don’t understand what this post is saying, why would i be leaving the theatre with uneaten turkeys. where did i get them from. what the fuck was i talking about.
me entering a theater showing of the minecraft movie with two live chickens in my shoulders
i have a youtube video about the use of jumpscares in horror games playing in the background while I work, and it reminded me of the single worst jumpscare i've ever experienced, which happened while I was playing a little game I like to call... Google Maps. (you play Google Maps by turning on street view, zooming in to somewhere that looks interesting, and clicking on any 360 photo views that people might have uploaded. i have spent many hours of my life playing Google Maps)
Anyway, spin this guy around to see something that legitimately made me jump so hard that I damn near threw my drink across the room
(more info under the cut if you're worried about what you'll see)
Top: a well-known Easter egg in Super Mario 3D Land is the ghostly figure that appears at the end of World 4-4 if the player waits for 30 seconds (near the right edge of the screen). The figure is severely blurred in-game.
Bottom: extracting the graphic used for it from the game's files reveals that it actually has two animation frames, and hands that are nearly impossible to see in-game.

I live for these kind of spooky-ass easter eggs in games that are normally not scary
You better listen to what he’s telling you..

Thoughts on Zelda Wiki's Quality Decline
I think it's time to air out some grievances towards what used to be one of my favorite fan wikis out there. The three days prior to this post, I stumbled upon the most esoteric set of pages on the Zelda Wiki.
I shout into the void at no-one directly to complain about the wiki's quality, and I get blocked in return by the person who runs the Zelda Wiki twitter and bluesky accounts.
Admittedly, I probably could have been a bit nicer about it, but I'm also not keyword-searching my own name to see if people are talking shit, so that one is on them.
I don't know how they usually handle criticism, but I don't think this is the way to do it. Especially since it seems the person managing their twitter/bluesky socials logged back into the inactive twitter after 6 months just to block me there too. I think that comes off as a bit petty.
Normally I couldn't care less, I never followed those accounts in the first place. But this ultimately emphasizes my growing disappointment towards the overall quality of the site over the past decade and a half. I have disliked the (at the time) separately managed Zeldapedia because of this exact reason; esoteric and meandering articles, separating pages because of minuscule name or localization differences, needless clutter out the ass etc. And it turns out my fears were not unfounded, as that exact problem bled right into Zelda Wiki after their merger. I had hopes once they went independent from Fandom that the quality would improve, but alas.
For some examples of the clutter on their site, they have pages for every level variant of monster from Echoes of Wisdom, pages for characters with single lines of dialogue. Is there any reason why we can't put these on singular pages? It's getting to a point where you start seeing stubbed pages out the ass, pages with missing images, more red links than a Four Swords game (at least 8107 red links as of this post), etc.
A visual representation of their Wanted Pages.
Don't even get me started on how they handle the Barba/Volvagia and Wart/Arrghus pages and how they prioritize English sources over the original Japanese, because the Encyclopedia by Dark Horse Comics, known for "borrowing" fan conjecture from fan wikis as sources, deemed them "canon"
Oh well, what can you do. I'm just yelling into the void. I only hope I'm not the only person who notices a problem, I feel like there should be some sort of civil conversation about this on their discord.
I am not in-the-know in the larger Zelda community as a whole, but I have heard no-so-fun things from an artist friend of mine who used to have some actual reach in the Zelda fandom spaces that this community tends to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to criticism. Not to mention how those fandom spaces seem to treat artists, such as cropping their signatures from social media posts, and ghosting commissioned artists. But as this is second-hand knowledge, I think that is a discussion for another time, preferably from someone with more knowledge and bigger reach.
No hard feelings towards the rest of their staff or contributors though. They're only doing their job. I only want to see the site get better, not worse.
The one thing I miss the most from the olden days is when they had a news feed on the home page that gathered blog posts from their various partnered sites. I used to check it every day before school to see if anything neat pops up.
Also fun fact, my one and only contribution to Zelda Wiki was uploading the original un-rotated image for the Lokomo Sword back when Spirit Tracks was new. Which I cropped from someone's direct-feed screenshot I found on google images. Sorry I was like 15 at the time.
