common myths about migraines (AKA if you get headaches regularly, please seek treatment for migraines)
"i don't have migraines because while i get them several times a week, it's only when i am hungry or dehydrated."
those are probably migraines. thirst, hunger, sleep disturbances, or any disruption to routine are common migraine triggers.
"my headaches are specifically barometric related, i get them when the weather/altitude changes."
those are probably migraines. barometric pressure is a common migraine trigger.
"i get headaches all the time but ibuprofen gets rid of them so they can't be migraines."
that's not true. ibuprofen works great at relieving migraine pain for many people.
"my consistent headaches are tension headaches. i feel them originate in my neck/shoulders."
those are probably migraines. muscle tension is a common migraine trigger.
if you are regularly getting headaches (once a week or more), you are likely getting migraines. in fact, a good rule of thumb if you're consistently getting headaches is to treat them as migraines until you can rule out migraines. that's how common "chronic headache = migraine" actually is.
migraines are a neurological disorder wherein pain is one symptom. pain is often the MAIN symptom, and the most noticeable symptom, which can make diagnosis tricky. other symptoms of migraine include:
fatigue
nausea/vomiting
digestive issues
visual disturbances (auras)
sensitivity to light and/or sound
mood changes
brain fog/cognitive changes
ringing in the ears
dizziness/vertigo
numbness/weakness on one side of the body
this list is NOT complete, but is a starting point. i really like the comparison to a hangover. if you generally feel hungover when you get a headache (without having consumed alcohol), that's a classic migraine presentation.
so many people suffer from migraine and don't even know it, so they aren't able to advocate for themselves to get treatment. there are great new migraine treatments on the market! if you're able, please seek treatment for your migraines. a better quality of life is possible.
here's some more myths! brought to you by the most frequent comments i get on my migraine posts.
"but migraines are extremely painful/debilitating and i can push through my pain."
migraines certainly can be debilitatingly painful. the pain can also be mild/easily treatable. it depends on the person and it depends on the day. regardless, your ability to live with chronic pain does not mean your pain isn't a problem!
"my headaches always have a direct cause/trigger so they can't be treated/they're my fault."
wrong! migraine is a sensory disorder in many respects. most/all migraines are triggered by something. avoiding triggers is good but isn't the whole story, and migraines with triggers can be treated effectively!
"i feel pain in (x) area of my head so it's not a migraine."
migraines can hurt in a specific area of the head/one half of a person's head. but this is not universally true for every person. please forget every silly infographic you've ever seen about areas of the head equaling different kinds of headaches. that's just literally false.
Seems like this could be useful to some of y'all

You need rest! It’s not something we should skip or feel guilty for doing. Some little ghosties to help us remember that. ♡

Let your bad thoughts be bad thoughts and your bad feelings be bad feelings. Let "I feel so worthless right now" turn into "I want to do something that'll make me feel better" instead of "the fact that I feel worthless must mean that I am". There is so much power in actively refusing to tie negativity to the way you see yourself, without ignoring it altogether.

social media has really warped our perception of creativity and hobbies. Stop doing things to post them. Just write. Just journal. Just sketch. Just read. Just annotate. Just sing. Just crochet. Just do the thing you’re going to do with the assumption no one will ever see or know you did it. Stop performing. Just enjoy it.
why romance peaked w henry tilney
he tells catherine that he “considers a country-dance as an emblem of marriage” after asking her to dance with him. real subtle man
he understands muslins and helps his sister shop for her gowns. he is deliberately written to be courteous, kind, and affectionate in contrast to the brooding gothic heroes that stalk catherine’s imagination. she gets to see that the real thing is so much better.
the only austen love interest who knows how to flirt (and means it too): “I danced with a very agreeable young man, introduced by Mr. King; had a great deal of conversation with him—seems a most extraordinary genius—hope I may know more of him. That, madam, is what I wish you to say.”
he readily forgives catherine for missing their walk
the cutest fucking quote: “To be driven by him, next to being dancing with him, was certainly the greatest happiness in the world.” the fact that he cares about catherine’s boundaries and comfort throughout their courtship is so good, especially when compared to john thorpe.
he shares catherine’s love of gothic literature and sincerely admires and respects her for her kind of intellect, hormonal mess that she is: “The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.” yes, he teases her, but it is established that this is how he shows his fondness.
he describes the ideal sister-in-law (from eleanor’s pov) as “Open, candid, artless, guileless, with affections strong but simple, forming no pretensions, and knowing no disguise.” “Such a sister-in-law, Henry, I should delight in,” said Eleanor with a smile. i love that the text implies that he’s definitely rambled on and on about catherine to his sister.
after finding out that his crush thought his father has murdered his mother, he does not rebuke her at all. instead, he gently prods her to use common sense so she wouldn’t feel scared to be in his house, and then asks, “Dearest Miss Morland, what ideas have you been admitting?” DEAREST is a fond address. the more catherine unwittingly reveals herself to him, the more smitten he is.
he tries to comfort catherine after she discovers that isabella broke off her engagement with james by saying that “to have so kind-hearted, so affectionate a sister must be a comfort to him under any distress.” what the fuck
he is willing to get disowned so he could marry her
Still by dream guy 😍😍😍
THE WORD FOR 1/11
Genesis 50:20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive.
Our disappointments are God's appointments!!
The story of Joseph is a classic example of how God used disappointments in a young believer's life to accomplish His own good purposes. Joseph recognized that the disappointments which he had experienced (even evil at the hands of his own family) were miraculously woven together by God to preserve many lives from starvation. What faith Joseph exhibited when he stated, "God meant it for good...” Can we say the same? Is our faith strong enough to recognize that God permits disappointments to come our way but uses them to bring good to us?
Don’t let disappointment shake your belief in the goodness of God. When you don’t understand why things are happening the way they are, cling to this promise: “We know that in everything God works for good with those who love Him, who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
When King Hezekiah became deathly ill, he turned to the Lord and wept bitterly. The Lord heard his cry and sent a word through prophet Isaiah. ‘This is what the LORD says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you.” 2 Kings 20:5
There is an aspect of our lives that God sees- the tears we have cried. Perhaps you've been shedding tears of grief, hopelessness and despondency. But the Lord will come, in His own gentle way, to lift you up and restore you. Weeping may last for the night, but He brings joy in the morning.
PRAYER: Lord, You know the tears I have cried and the burdens I have carried. I know that You will come and bring healing and restoration to every area over which I have been so concerned. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
THE WORD FOR 27/10
“We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.” (Psalms 33:20)
Perhaps you have been waiting far too long and you are on the verge of giving up. Why is it taking so long? You feel there's none to lean on and truly share your burden. Don't give up. Hope and wait for the promise of God- that He will be faithful. That He will deliver and provide. Wait in faith on God, don’t get ahead of Him. In Psalm 46, the Lord says, “be still, and know that I am God” i.e., know who I am - that He is good, He is faithful, He is trustworthy and righteous, that He is generous, abounding in love. He is great and awesome (Nehemiah 1:5), He is able to work mightily in the midst of your waiting. Therefore wait well by anchoring your hope in the One whose promises are sure. His Word is sure, and His ways are perfect, He will never disappoint you.
The love of Jesus is like no other. It's giving, forgiving, caring and being compassionate.
The love we express for one another will be the evidence to the world that God is real. We, as Christians already know that God is real through the faith that we have in Jesus Christ. When we love like Jesus, people around us will know what kind of God we worship and they will come to the knowledge of God. Make sure that everything you do in your daily life is an expression of God's love for the world.
No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and His love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:12
I'm not lying when I say this tweet brought a tear to my eye
Thank you Jorts
“If you find someone who makes you smile, who checks up on you often to see if you’re okay. Who watches out or you and wants the best for you. Who loves and respects you. Don’t let them go. People like that are hard to find.”
