I did not believe that such exhaustion was possible. However, it seemed that I was to be proven wrong. The Petunia Princess worked me to the bone every day rebuilding that hideous garden, and when it was finished, I slept for the better part of three mortal days. I am not sure if it was the actual labor or the Princess' deranged shrieking that tired me so. I simply know that I am glad to finally be rid of the blasted project, even if it seems that I cannot shake the task mistress herself.

I find myself uncertain as to how to continue from this point going forward.

Could you please discuss copyright issues in regards to RP. Some folks out there claim they have some kind of copyright over their muses.

If it’s a canon character, then being upset that other people are roleplaying “your” character doesn’t make any sense.  It isn’t your character and you can’t be mad about that.

If it’s an OC or an AU/non-canon take of a canon character, it makes sense that people would be upset about someone stealing their character.  They put a lot of effort into developing a backstory and personality and such for that character, and using it (without their permission) is wrong and is stealing their hard work.

ADMIN: 

Well, people do have a sort of “copyright” over their own original characters.

HOWEVER, no one has any such claim over canon characters. Canon characters and their canon media belong to their respective owners. The ~”I play this character therefore no one else can”~ attitude that some roleplayers have is therefore absolutely bullshit. No roleplayer has any claims to these characters whatsoever. 

Now, here is where this gets complicated. The ideas that roleplayers have are of their own creation. Headcanons can be stolen. Ideas can be stolen. Unfortunately, there is oftentimes no viable evidence that out-right proves that such-and-such has stolen this from suchandsuch. People often have similar ideas about canon characters. Other forms of media can be stolen as well, like icons, edits, and artwork. This kind of theft is often obvious, but not necessarily easily settled. Plagarism is also rampant in certain fandoms. 

TLDR; Roleplayers do not have any claim to canon characters, but they do own the ideas and writing that they have created about them.
